Using a new microphone setup for the first time, I take the under appreciated first generation Mercedes SLK55 AMG out for a road test. Do you think anything with an AMG will begin to appreciate? Is now an ideal time to buy? Up next is a W204 C63 AMG.

It has a adaptive transmission. It means if you drive it like a grandma, it will behave nice and smooth. If you drive it enthusiastically, it will reward you with great driving pleasure. Electric power windows, mirrors and seats are prone to not work on higher mileage cars. Also body tends to rust because of poor anti corrosion procedures Mercedes used in that era. You should do another review, but this time remove Electronic Stability Program fuse under the bonnet and enjoy the real beast of car that this actually is.

I’ve had mine since 2007 and it’s still awesome. Did a video a few years back of me changing the brakes & rotors. Will replace the driver’s door actuator soon. The cars just hold up and the motors are solid. Mine needs a repaint but that will be later down the road.

I had this car in the same color combination. It was one of the finest machines I've ever owned. Powerful and reliable. Strangely, I never noticed the accelerator lag you are referring to. My only complaint was that Mercedes had not yet gone to rack and pinion steering in this model, and I found steering feel to be a bit "loose" as a result. That said, I still miss the car. It was wonderful in many ways.

Good review for an excellent car, thank you. A couple of comments:
    - the weight of this car is more around 1600 kg, so you will never get to 2 tons, other than you being really...heavy!
    - having been the happy owner of a clk 320 V6 and now this clk 55 amg, I noticed that comfort is extremely sensitive to the size of the rims, and 18 inches is very different of stock 17 inches (much more bumpy)

Nice video just came across this.
I'm the lucky owner of a C208 CLK 55 AMG and have it now for more than 12 years. It's been an absolute pleasure driving it and utterly reliable.
The manual shifting or rather manually restricting up shift is adaptive. The automatic transmission in the AMG versions have Speed shift and adaption to the driver. It'll adjust in time to the way you drive.
You'll be able to find details on how to reset the adaptation on RUclips.
Reset the Shift computer will alter the shift response.
I think these CLK's are very much under the radar but are a rare kind of coupé. You can cruise or drive like its stolen.
The joy of driving, near bulletproof engine and gearbox, reliability and low maintenance cost offset the lurking rust monster at work.
That's about the only gremlin, the rust issue.

Oof. Ill have to disagree on the LOW COST 😂. Totally not true. Sorry man. No dis. Im 11k in with only putting 30 k miles. Bought the car for 4010. Cluster was fried. Sent it out. Hoses and seals followed and the starter and alt, along with broken knobs, slipping tranny, not to mention GAS in this thing😂😂. The Gas tank leaks. Paint is peeling. Lifters are clicking.
But shes my baby!!!! Sexy B.
Clean. Safe. Always fast. Puts street cars to zzzzz.
Im restoring her. Little by little. About 20k to go.
      Just wanted to chime in.
(Yes i have a rust hole in the passanger floor board😂😂😂😂😂). Also. The plastic melts in the center. Florida😂😂😂.
Did i mention windshield washer mec. And foglights? Oh wait not the interior peeling…..😂😂😂😂
I think i still have the owners book in the BROkEN glove box😂
Im curious about the shifting. Had a flush done. Now its a hard shift to drive. Ive always counted 4 shits before 70 mph. Correct?

I have a 2001 that I purchased in 2008 $14,500 with 55,000. it now has 118,000 miles on it. Easy to self maintain. I realized what I had and wanted to slow down the miles I put on. So I bought a 2000 CLK430, there is many of these around, this one was different. It seemed faster and it shifts firmer than a standard CLK430. I've had this car for over six years and found out from a mechanic, he said look under the hood near the passenger side at the factory sticker and it will describe the car. This car says it is a CLK430/C43AMG. There is no AMG badge on the car like my CLK55, but it is fun to drive. I don't know if the value is more, but I was recently offered $5,000 for a car a purchased six years ago for $3300.

I feel like people keep forgetting this car is just over 20 years old now, the interior and exterior design is from much older generations designers and at that time this was outstanding for a car’s interior, only downside is that the car now feels dated given that entry level hondas and Toyotas can easily beat it in terms of interior.

    • @Changingtesting
      @Changingtesting 11 месяцев назад

Back then having an adustable seat controls on the door, lumbar support, automatic windows, and an electronic dash/menu was considered luxury. But most of which is now considered standard. If I were to add anything to this car it would be to upgrade the console to have that hud menu that most w209s or other w208s have as a optional console upgrade, and fit that console with a back up camera system.

@@martinhristov6429 well now that’s crazy. These cars don’t rust even though I have a very small pinhole in my floorboard it’s not from them, neglecting the model.
It is a money pit 100% ain’t nobody gonna come here and tell you otherwise without me saying that they’re a liar I see all of the comments of everybody saying how reliable this car is and what a beautiful Mercedes and it’s a classic and that’s all fun and dandy and very true but however
I’m $11,000 in only putting 28,000 miles on the car
It’s a project car, and if you don’t think you can afford tires on it, I would walk away from this immediately
Not the most ideal piece of machinery, to take care of but it is a sexy Mercedes
