I couldn't agree more with you. It's a strange movie because everybody seems to love it but they also have no desire to see it again. I completely understand. It's one of those movies.
Couldn't agree more about the years between viewings... I saw it earlier this year and want to watch it with my wife, but you've got to be mentally prepared to get through it, even though its a masterpiece. Same with The Pianist for me. Both nice 4k transfers and worth an upgrade from the blu ray. Fair play starting it at 1am. You've got much more movie stamina than me. Great edition Keith. Thank you for sharing.
Yeah like I said in the video Darren it's one of those movies. Absolutely nothing against it but the lasting impression that it leaves on you you almost need years to recover from it. I have The Pianist on 4K myself but I still haven't checked it out. Again I'm almost trying to brace myself for it. A huge thank you as always Darren for taking the time to stop by. It's always appreciated my friend
I'm so pleased that this was the picture that won Spielberg his Directing Oscar. I have the earlier US box edition of the film on 4K, I saw this film whilst on a IT course in Milton Keynes the entire audience were in tears at many points through the film, the other Holocaust film I enjoyed was The Pianist. Spielbeg did far more for Jewish history than he was given credit for Spielberg used his percentage of profits to start the Shoah Foundation, a non-profit organization that archives testimonies of Holocaust survivors. Ralph Fiennes did win a BAFTA for his performance.
Yeah I have to agree with you when it comes to Spielberg winning the Oscar for this movie. I think it's probably his most accomplished movie if that makes any sense. I do have The Pianist on 4K but just like Schindler's List I almost have to brace myself for it. Really looking forward to checking it out whenever I get around to it. I heard the 4K transfer looks stunning on it. But thank you so much for taking the time to stop by and share your thoughts on the movie itself. It's always appreciated
Schindler’s List is such an intense film, I remember watching it for the first time in history class at high school over a series of lessons and it was so tough, yet I learnt a lot. Quite crazy to know Spielberg went into production on this whilst on pre-production of Jurassic Park.
I still can't wrap my head around the fact that he managed to do Jurassic Park and Schindler's List all in one year. It's an absolutely astonishing achievement when you think about it. It says a lot about him and it's probably why he's one of my favourite directors of all time. Not many people could do what he done
It took me quite a few years to watch this movie. I am glad I did because it's an incredible experience. I honestly don't think I will ever watch it again though. Very nice set Keith. Take care both of you. Gaz.
It's one of those movies Gary. I'm not surprised to hear you say that you probably wouldn't watch it again. It's a very hard watch despite how much of an experience it is. Thank you once again my friend for taking the time to stop by and check it out
Years ago I watched this in a small, non profit, community run theatre in Crosby, Liverpool and it was a fund raiser for an anti nazi type charity. They had a lady speak before the showing, and she was a Holocaust survivor, her entire family (bar one brother who saw the writing on the wall and fled to the USA) were killed in Auschwitz, she broke down and couldn't finish but EVERYONE at that screening was in floods of tears and to this very day it's still the most riveting and harrowing film experience of my life. The film is an absolute masterpiece but I honestly don't think I could ever watch it again by choice.
It's a very strange thing because I have this strange memory that I went to see this in the cinema even though I was only 13 when it came out. Maybe I'm imagining it
Lovely edition Keith, i still haven't watched this,I have no excuse either, just never got round to watching it...I'll have to remedy that after I get my new system set up 😊
Yeah I can only repeat what Stuart has said Marty. This is a very powerful movie and it's also a very important movie. I really do hope you give it a go
Good review of a great film Keith 👍 no need for apologies I think I've seen the same interview with Terry Gilliam and I thought it was jealousy too, I'd take a Spielberg film over a Gilliam film any day of the week.
Yeah it wasn't a great moment for him. Like I said in the video it's never good seeing a director whining about another one. I thought I came across as pure jealousy. Such a shame because I do have a lot of time for Terry Gilliam. But as you said I would take Spielberg over him any day. Thank you once again John for stopping by.
A 3 hour movie at 1 o clock in the morning, wow, Keith, that takes some doing. I still haven't seen it Keith, I do have it in 4K but still haven't gotten around to it. My son watched it a month ago and told me I need to see it. This is a beautiful looking edition and I love the steel book. Even though I haven't seen it yet I did check out the transfer and it is amazing. I would watch it tonight but I have a date with 3 amigos on a live stream so I got no chance.
It's just one of those rare nights Gary where a movie simply grabs hold of you and is unwilling to let go of you. It doesn't happen that often but when it does I try to embrace it as much as I can. A couple of pints really helps as well 😂😂😂. It goes without saying Gary but this is a movie you really need to check out. As hard as it is to watch trust me you won't regret it. You have the 4K hands down the best way to watch it as well. Thank you as always Gary for taking the time to stop by and I will see you on the stream later my friend
Hi Keith,,,, That's a lovely boxset,,,👍,,, Yes the movie is a master piece,,,👌,, It really is,,,,,,,,,, But like a few comments,, Have said,,,, I watched it once,,,. I doubt I could watch it again,,,. It's very dark ,,, and very sad,, But it gets the message across,,,,,,,, Good video Keith,,,,👍
I've said it in a few comments tonight but I can't blame you for not watching it again. It's one of those movies that leaves a lasting impression. That's why I have to put years in between viewings. Every time I watch it it feels like I'm watching it for the first time. A huge thank you again Lee for taking the time to stop by
Lovely edition again mate. I have the 4k and watched it on release, but I will maybe watch it 1 more time before I pop my cloggs but I seriously need to be in the right frame of mind. The film is a masterpiece, as horrifying as it is.
Isn't it amazing Ian that we can call a movie like this a masterpiece but yet you have to put years in between viewings. It's just one of those movies. Might be Spielberg's best directed movie if you know what I mean. A huge thank you once again for taking the time to stop by and check it out
Yeah I'm definitely considering it Ian. The problem is trying to think of 10. But thank you so much for the kind words Ian. It's always my pleasure my friend
I would have got that boxset if I didn't have the usa dvd boxset all of them had some degree of cracking to the see through case, well documented on forums, you got a film cell and the book was hardback, so I got the 4k steelbook.
I actually have that DVD box set you are talking about Wayne. Absolutely no idea where I put it. I must go looking for it. I couldn't say no to this 4K release. Thank you for checking it out
I've noticed you only get film cells with dvd boxsets, i guess they stopped giving them out because they needed to keep as much film as possible for restoration
Film cells used to be a big thing back in the day. You don't see many of them nowadays which is a bit of a shame. It used to be my favourite aspect of a collector's release
An amazing Film but I find it too upsetting so not one I would add to my collection. I’ve seen it once and that was enough viewing for me. Nice set though.
Yeah a lot of people think the same way as yourself Stephen and I completely understand. It is a very hard watch and that's why I have to put years between viewings.
Well, I agree with Gilliam and Kubrick. Schindler's List may be grim, but the happy, hopeful ending wasn't necessary. It was necessary in order to tell Oscar Schindler's story, I suppose, but it wasn't necessary to focus on Oscar Schindler's story in order to make a holocaust film. I get it, though. People want a nice ending. It's too much for most people to face the true brutality of the holocaust. You wouldn't even be allowed to release a truly honest holocaust film in theaters, because it would simply be too revolting to see. But if I made a holocaust film, there would be no happy ending, no hope and no redemption. It would simply show the sheer horrors of which humanity is capable. No heroes, no survivors and no popcorn ending. Just hell on Earth.
But that's the thing Spielberg wasn't making a movie on the Holocaust he was making a movie on Schindler's List. Thats the point that Gilliam missed out on. If Spielberg was focusing on a holocaust movie then yes you can question his ending. Like I said in the video I don't agree with directors attacking other directors particularly if that other director is Steven Spielberg. He doesn't have a leg to stand on in my honest opinion. Kubrick wasn't involved with any of this by the way. It was just Gilliam comparing the two.
@@millerman9991 Come on, Spielberg wanted to make a Holocaust film. I mean, why else go through the enormous effort of showing (part of) it just for the sake of actually telling a small story that just happened to take place during the same time? I don't buy that. I think Spielberg wanted to make a Holocaust film......he just needed a story he could connect with personally, and when Schindler's Ark came along, he saw the opportunity to make a Holocaust film from a Jewish perspective, that also gave him the chance to show that not all Germans were bad during the war and Kumbaya, my Lord and blah blah blah. Oh, and Gilliam was actually quoting Kubrick. It was Kubrick who first said that Schindler's List was a film about success.
@SpaceCattttt what's the movie called. Spielberg wanted to make a movie about Oscar Schindler and the lives that he saved. The funny thing is we are talking about Steven Spielberg and if he wanted to make a holocaust movie he wouldn't be afraid to do it. But he obviously felt telling the story about Oscar Schindler was somewhat more important for him. You can say what you want when it comes to Terry Gilliam it's your own opinion but I thought the entire segment came across as pure jealousy. I wouldn't imagine you'd see Spielberg talking about other directors the way he did.
@@millerman9991 It's not my opinion. Terry Gilliam even explains that he's quoting Stanley Kubrick. As for the film, I don't see the point in making a film about something that happened during the Holocaust, even though it's not about the Holocaust, and then spending more screen time on depicting a sanitized version of the Holocaust than on the story's actual main character. Look, I think it's a great film, but it's also a Hollywood film, which means that it could never get away with doing the Holocaust "justice" on the screen. For better or worse.
It’s one of the best movies from Spielberg. I have the 4K-Version too.
But the german one of course.
It’s one of these movies everybody has to see.

I remember watching this in History lessons in school. Got mocked as I started crying.
My eyes and soul were drawn to the little girl in the red coat.
There's a reason to why she had a red Jacket. Spielberg wanted your eyes on her all during it.
@millerman9991 After doing film studies I fully understood why
Absolutely
Such a touching horrowing beautiful film 📽️ great performances nice score 🎼👌🏻

Amazing edition.... have to pick this up on 4k... everyone saying it looks superb.... Thanks for sharing Keith 👍
One of the reasons to why I was so hook into it was because of how good it looked. Definitely recommend picking it up Roy. It's mesmerising
Nice one Keith !! Powerful good movie !
