Hi Keith!!! North by Northwest (1959) is my favorite movie of all time. Gone with the Wind (1939) 85th Anniversary Edition and Ben-Hur (1959) 65th Anniversary Edition would be great to see in this year.

I've now watched North by Northwest on 4k, I'm blown away, such a rich textured picture and excellent movie, I can almost taste the bourbon and the Blonde ladies perfume. There is another two that really stick out for me. Singing in the rain and Casablanca. Singing in particular I cannot get over how great that movie looks on 4k. Some of the colours you are going to see through out it will simply leave your jaw dropped

To be honest I got very lucky when it came to that film reel set. I think I was on a Facebook group and somebody came on and told me about it been on sale. I was all over it. To be honest I would have paid so much more for it as well. Like I said it's the Crown jewel in my collection. Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by

I am not kidding Mike I think that is the fifth collector's edition that I bought from Warner Brothers in the last month. There belting them out but in such high quality. Hello Keith, I was in HMV last Saturday in Dublin and picked up the standard releases of North by Northwest and Blazing Saddles..I'm not usually a fan of Cary Grant but credit where it's due he's absolutely brilliant in this and looks so fresh that you would never guess that he was in his mid 50's when this was made, and I love Hitchcock's cameo it always makes me laugh. I saw your video for Blazing Saddles nothing better for when you need a good belly laugh Thanks a lot for the super reviews.
Great to hear that you picked up both releases. I couldn't be happier with how the 4K transfers turned out on both of them. I've said it to a few people tonight but when you see Cary Grant in this movie you can't help but think of James Bond. I'm almost certain he turned down the role as well. @@millerman9991 Keith, The Bond movies unfortunately came a little too late for Cary Grant he only made a handful of pictures after North by Northwest one of which Charade has touches of Hitchcock and Bond and is well worth a look if you haven't seen it
@bonzodog6872 yeah apparently they considered him for Dr No but when they realised he would only be available for one movie they past on it. But look it worked out in the end. I have honestly not heard of Charade. I will definitely look into it

Everybody seem to have gotten their release cancelled from Amazon. I think what happened was they got the released dates wrong and they had to correct it. Keith that Hitchcock collection is something else, I love it. I watched North By Northwest a few months ago. It's a great movie and I would put it in my top five of Hitchcock movies. This is a beautiful release and I can imagine the transfer is top notch on this movie. The steal book looks really nice as well. Cary Grant turned down the role as James Bond back in the 60's, not sure why because he was British and looked the part back then. I need to look for this in 4K after listening to your review Keith.
I've said it in another comment tonight but you can't watch North by northwest and not think of James Bond. There is definitely similarities there. I didn't realise Cary Grant turned it down. If North by northwest is anything to go by he would have been a great fit. When it comes to the 4K transfer I highly recommend looking into this one Gary. You will not believe how good it looks. I always love seeing that Hitchcock Reel Can set, the best! I don't have that, but the pride and joy of my collection is also a Hitchcock piece, the big PSYCHO Box Set from Germany. I know you have that too. It's amazing. I couldn't afford this Northwest Deluxe Edition, so I just went with the Steelbook and will have it alongside my old DIgibook Blu. Thank you, Keith for this great unboxing and review of my favourite Hitchcock film. I've always loved this movie ever since I first saw it as a kid. This is actually THE movie that has made me a lifelong Cary Grant fan. And Warner did it again. I'm so pleased that Warners put as much love and effort in their classic movies. Yes, one might argue whether the implementation of Dolby Atmos makes a lot of sense for a movie of this vintage. I think it absolutely does. And it's not just a technical gimmick. The crop duster scene does prove it. I would like other studios to follow suite. If done right an Atmos track can enhance every movie. Warner and Sony should be applauded for this. Even a dialogue centered title like Sony's Steel Magnolias can benefit from an immersive Atmos track (nature sounds, music). So, by all means, go for it. As you've probably noticed from earlier comments, my heart beats for classic movies. Sure, new movies look and sound amazing but it's some of the classics (especially black and white films) that truly shine on 4K. In the States, Warner Archive have anounced their first 4K release with one of the greatest westerns ever The Searchers. That's great news for movie fans and I'm already excited for next year's 4K releases. This could easily become another great year for us physical media collectors.
Hey Ash. Like I said in the video if the Dolby Atmos was implemented for just that scene alone I think it was worth doing. It's such an iconic scene and I was always a fan of it but I've never heard it sound the way it sounded on this release. It was almost like watching it for the first time. What a gift that is. You have to give Warner Brothers credit for the amount of work they are putting into releases like this. Not just for the packaging but everything they are doing in terms of the 4K transfers and audio. Even Blazing Saddles got a brand new Dolby Atmos soundtrack as well. I think it's a game changer and I would love to see more of it in the future. I'm a bit like yourself. I always look towards the classics. Like you said new movies today will always look and sound good. But when you get so much effort put behind a classic like this it literally breathes new life into it. Warner Brothers have been knocking it out of the Park recently and I honestly can't wait to see what they come out with next. A huge thank you as always my good friend for taking the time to stop by. It's such a switch not being envious of all the US releases, which generally were always that little bit better. We're getting original artwork, beautiful steelbooks and those great hard cases. Ratings stickers are another little touch that shows them catering for collectors. Great to see.

Hey Keith, great review you definitely did the movie and disc justice. simply outstanding picture and sound probably the best Hitchcock disc and that’s saying something pretty much they’re all excellent. i’ve mentioned I traveled to Chicago to see that in 70 mm the funny thing is that when I drive from Michigan to Illinois I actually take Highway 41 which is where the crop duster scene takes place. lots of farms wide-open desolate just like in the movie. Unfortunately what we see in the movie is actually filmed in California but it’s still cool that I was there if only in spirit. Can’t wait for the terminator review. Have a great one.👍

@@millerman9991 Finally got around to watching the entire film. It's so much better than the Blu Ray. Oh my goodness. Breathtaking. Funny thing is, I must have seen this film dozens of times, and I saw something this time I'd never noticed before. In the scene where he's at the U.N., just after the blonde lady has escorted him to the counter to have Townsend paged, there's something weird happening in the bottom right corner. I *THINK* it might be the gloved hand of the camera operator, but it's impossible to tell. It looks like a fuzzy black octopus dancing in the corner, and it's very noticeable for a few seconds. It's in the 50th anniversary Blu Ray, as well. I tried looking it up, but I couldn't find any mention of it. Do you have any idea what that is? Thanks in advance.

The Alfred Hitchcock set at the beginning of the video is just awesome. 👏 North by Northwest is a great Hitchcock/ Cary Grant movie and there is a lot of practical effects in it that make the movie stand out . The booklet was a nice touch. They should’ve done something like that for blazing saddles. The Blu-ray should of had a list a little artwork on it
Like I said in the video that Hitchcock collection is the Crown Jewel of my collection. Yeah some of the practical effects that you see in the movie particularly the iconic aeroplane scene is absolutely stunning

I've got all three Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collections on 4k Blu-ray. This year we didn't get a Volume 4 of these boxsets. However, we did get To Catch a Thief, and North by Northwest on 4k blu-ray. Just this afternoon, I've ordered both of them.

@@millerman9991 Update: I ordered both of them last week, together with the 4k Blu-ray of Paper Moon from Criterion. Paper Moon was to be released this week, so Amazon already sent me To Catch a Thief and North by Northwest last week, while Paper Moon was sent to me last Tuesday. Yesterday I received a package from Amazon, so of course this had to be To Catch a Thief and North by Northwest. However, I could immediately feel there was just one release inside the package, instead of two. I opened it, and to my big surprise it was Paper Moon that already had arrived. So, I was wondering what had happened to the two Hitchcock releases that were sent to me one week earlier. I checked Amazon, and it showed me my refund was being processed. I thought: "Refund? Why?" It didn't really say why, but they just gave a list of possible reasons, like the package being damaged or the delivery company not being able to find the address. I found out the package was sent to me last week on Tuesday, and was already sent back to Amazon on Thursday. I ordered from Amazon US, but the package never even left the US. I expect the package got damaged during transit, they sent it back to Amazon, and they just refunded me without even informing me. So, I just ordered both of them again.

This is a beautiful edition of a great movie Keith. Very impressive. Like you I love behind the scenes photos etc. It emphasises to me that as collectors we also fulfill the role of archivists and historians . Movies constantly disappear from digital platforms and having a hard copy of classic movies like this is so important. It reminds us of the great talented film makers of the past and I think that's so important. By the way I had a brilliant time watching The Terminator on 4k. I know there's mixed opinions on the steelbook but I think it's perfectly fine and the 4k transfer was excellent. Maybe someday they might redo Terminator 2 to a similar standard. Wow Ian I am very shocked to hear that the audio on twisters is so poor. Unfortunately I have no idea when I will get around to watching it. I knew it wasn't going to be as good as the original but I thought we were going to get something fantastic in terms of audio. Such a shame

Hello Keith, I was in HMV last Saturday in Dublin and picked up the standard releases of North by Northwest and Blazing Saddles..I'm not usually a fan of Cary Grant but credit where it's due he's absolutely brilliant in this and looks so fresh that you would never guess that he was in his mid 50's when this was made, and I love Hitchcock's cameo it always makes me laugh. I saw your video for Blazing Saddles nothing better for when you need a good belly laugh Thanks a lot for the super reviews.
Great to hear that you picked up both releases. I couldn't be happier with how the 4K transfers turned out on both of them. I've said it to a few people tonight but when you see Cary Grant in this movie you can't help but think of James Bond. I'm almost certain he turned down the role as well. @@millerman9991 Keith, The Bond movies unfortunately came a little too late for Cary Grant he only made a handful of pictures after North by Northwest one of which Charade has touches of Hitchcock and Bond and is well worth a look if you haven't seen it
@bonzodog6872 yeah apparently they considered him for Dr No but when they realised he would only be available for one movie they past on it. But look it worked out in the end. I have honestly not heard of Charade. I will definitely look into it

Everybody seem to have gotten their release cancelled from Amazon. I think what happened was they got the released dates wrong and they had to correct it. Keith that Hitchcock collection is something else, I love it. I watched North By Northwest a few months ago. It's a great movie and I would put it in my top five of Hitchcock movies. This is a beautiful release and I can imagine the transfer is top notch on this movie. The steal book looks really nice as well. Cary Grant turned down the role as James Bond back in the 60's, not sure why because he was British and looked the part back then. I need to look for this in 4K after listening to your review Keith.
I've said it in another comment tonight but you can't watch North by northwest and not think of James Bond. There is definitely similarities there. I didn't realise Cary Grant turned it down. If North by northwest is anything to go by he would have been a great fit. When it comes to the 4K transfer I highly recommend looking into this one Gary. You will not believe how good it looks. I always love seeing that Hitchcock Reel Can set, the best! I don't have that, but the pride and joy of my collection is also a Hitchcock piece, the big PSYCHO Box Set from Germany. I know you have that too. It's amazing. I couldn't afford this Northwest Deluxe Edition, so I just went with the Steelbook and will have it alongside my old DIgibook Blu. Thank you, Keith for this great unboxing and review of my favourite Hitchcock film. I've always loved this movie ever since I first saw it as a kid. This is actually THE movie that has made me a lifelong Cary Grant fan. And Warner did it again. I'm so pleased that Warners put as much love and effort in their classic movies. Yes, one might argue whether the implementation of Dolby Atmos makes a lot of sense for a movie of this vintage. I think it absolutely does. And it's not just a technical gimmick. The crop duster scene does prove it. I would like other studios to follow suite. If done right an Atmos track can enhance every movie. Warner and Sony should be applauded for this. Even a dialogue centered title like Sony's Steel Magnolias can benefit from an immersive Atmos track (nature sounds, music). So, by all means, go for it. As you've probably noticed from earlier comments, my heart beats for classic movies. Sure, new movies look and sound amazing but it's some of the classics (especially black and white films) that truly shine on 4K. In the States, Warner Archive have anounced their first 4K release with one of the greatest westerns ever The Searchers. That's great news for movie fans and I'm already excited for next year's 4K releases. This could easily become another great year for us physical media collectors.
Hey Ash. Like I said in the video if the Dolby Atmos was implemented for just that scene alone I think it was worth doing. It's such an iconic scene and I was always a fan of it but I've never heard it sound the way it sounded on this release. It was almost like watching it for the first time. What a gift that is. You have to give Warner Brothers credit for the amount of work they are putting into releases like this. Not just for the packaging but everything they are doing in terms of the 4K transfers and audio. Even Blazing Saddles got a brand new Dolby Atmos soundtrack as well. I think it's a game changer and I would love to see more of it in the future. I'm a bit like yourself. I always look towards the classics. Like you said new movies today will always look and sound good. But when you get so much effort put behind a classic like this it literally breathes new life into it. Warner Brothers have been knocking it out of the Park recently and I honestly can't wait to see what they come out with next. A huge thank you as always my good friend for taking the time to stop by. Hey Keith. I have to say I agree with you about Warner Bros. They are really smashing out some great collectors editions for the UK. It's such a switch not being envious of all the US releases, which generally were always that little bit better. We're getting original artwork, beautiful steelbooks and those great hard cases. Ratings stickers are another little touch that shows them catering for collectors. Great to see.
I have to agree with you Steve. It's still a bit of a head scratcher why the Americans don't get releases like this. You would imagine there's a huge market for them over there. I am almost certain this is my fifth Warner Brothers collector's edition in the space of 1 month. They have been belting them out in such high quality as well. Hey Keith, great review you definitely did the movie and disc justice. simply outstanding picture and sound probably the best Hitchcock disc and that’s saying something pretty much they’re all excellent. i’ve mentioned I traveled to Chicago to see that in 70 mm the funny thing is that when I drive from Michigan to Illinois I actually take Highway 41 which is where the crop duster scene takes place. lots of farms wide-open desolate just like in the movie. Unfortunately what we see in the movie is actually filmed in California but it’s still cool that I was there if only in spirit. Can’t wait for the terminator review. Have a great one.👍

@@millerman9991 Finally got around to watching the entire film. It's so much better than the Blu Ray. Oh my goodness. Breathtaking. Funny thing is, I must have seen this film dozens of times, and I saw something this time I'd never noticed before. In the scene where he's at the U.N., just after the blonde lady has escorted him to the counter to have Townsend paged, there's something weird happening in the bottom right corner. I *THINK* it might be the gloved hand of the camera operator, but it's impossible to tell. It looks like a fuzzy black octopus dancing in the corner, and it's very noticeable for a few seconds. It's in the 50th anniversary Blu Ray, as well. I tried looking it up, but I couldn't find any mention of it. Do you have any idea what that is? Thanks in advance.

The Alfred Hitchcock set at the beginning of the video is just awesome. 👏 North by Northwest is a great Hitchcock/ Cary Grant movie and there is a lot of practical effects in it that make the movie stand out .
The booklet was a nice touch. They should’ve done something like that for blazing saddles.
The Blu-ray should of had a list a little artwork on it
Like I said in the video that Hitchcock collection is the Crown Jewel of my collection. Yeah some of the practical effects that you see in the movie particularly the iconic aeroplane scene is absolutely stunning

I've got all three Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collections on 4k Blu-ray. This year we didn't get a Volume 4 of these boxsets. However, we did get To Catch a Thief, and North by Northwest on 4k blu-ray. Just this afternoon, I've ordered both of them.

@@millerman9991 Update: I ordered both of them last week, together with the 4k Blu-ray of Paper Moon from Criterion. Paper Moon was to be released this week, so Amazon already sent me To Catch a Thief and North by Northwest last week, while Paper Moon was sent to me last Tuesday. Yesterday I received a package from Amazon, so of course this had to be To Catch a Thief and North by Northwest. However, I could immediately feel there was just one release inside the package, instead of two. I opened it, and to my big surprise it was Paper Moon that already had arrived. So, I was wondering what had happened to the two Hitchcock releases that were sent to me one week earlier. I checked Amazon, and it showed me my refund was being processed. I thought: "Refund? Why?" It didn't really say why, but they just gave a list of possible reasons, like the package being damaged or the delivery company not being able to find the address. I found out the package was sent to me last week on Tuesday, and was already sent back to Amazon on Thursday. I ordered from Amazon US, but the package never even left the US. I expect the package got damaged during transit, they sent it back to Amazon, and they just refunded me without even informing me. So, I just ordered both of them again.

This is a beautiful edition of a great movie Keith. Very impressive. Like you I love behind the scenes photos etc. It emphasises to me that as collectors we also fulfill the role of archivists and historians . Movies constantly disappear from digital platforms and having a hard copy of classic movies like this is so important. It reminds us of the great talented film makers of the past and I think that's so important. By the way I had a brilliant time watching The Terminator on 4k. I know there's mixed opinions on the steelbook but I think it's perfectly fine and the 4k transfer was excellent. Maybe someday they might redo Terminator 2 to a similar standard.
