KA-BAR Becker BK13 Remora review: Survival Knife Companion

- Designed by Ethan Becker, the KA-BAR Becker BK13 Remora is an ideal backup knife for your larger survival blade. Mine stays in the sheath pouch of my Buck Hoodlum. It's fit perfectly and adds virtually no wieght to the loadout, but adds capability to my system. This is a useful knife for smaller tasks.
The hollow ground 440A stainless steel blade arrived very sharp from the factory. Finish of the knife is suprisingly good given the low cost. The sheath is plastic and is functional but nothing special. If you have a need for a small fixed blade for this purpose of use this knife is worth considering.

I need to add this knife to my BK9 sheath
Great small task knife for the price.I really like how you paired it with the Buck Hoodlum.Very nicely done Mark.
those remoras do look nicely finished. very cool little thing.
@AussieMark909 No problem Mark, and it really means a lot to me knowing i helped someone :)
Good vid man, I was looking for a nice little cheap knife and it was between this and the crkt ritter and you sold me on it
Very nice little backup/piggyback knife. I do have a Becker Necker but this little gem is way cheaper to buy in multiples. Thanx for the review mate, I'm sold on this knife and will be adding one to most of my larger survival knives.
Worth checking out the KA-BAR Johnson Adventure Piggyback too. Good value, same purpose of use.
Great, thanks for the advice Mark. Nice to talk to another Aussie about blade choices.
I have most of the "BK" Ka-Bar knifes and I can contribute with the follow information:
The Ka-Bar Bk13 Remora with 3 holes is made in China and the one with 4 holes is made in the USA, the 4rd hole is located in the finger guard.
That is the easy way for recognize China from USA made in this model.
Nice!
Now that is a killer Knife .
@MrWeaponfan Not yet, but I'm digging this style of knife and plan to add more to the collection.
@unomas58 I got lucky, it fits the sheath pocket exactly. I think they make a good combination.
@VisualArticulation Thanks for watching mate, all the best.
@TheLazySpoiledKitty OK I will get an Izula, I was leaning towards it but this seals it for me. Thanks for the advice Casper, I really value your opinion.
@PavlovSandor Hey Pavlov, thanks for watching mate. It is a suprisingly well finished knife and I like it a lot.
@fishwolfSBK Cheers mate, thanks for watching.
@thetimetohunt lol, reckon you're right about that. Have a great weekend.
Turn the captions on and you will learn about the scary monster pavilion wrap.
The poorly designed sheath has me worried :(, since i would have to spend extra cash for a custom kydex sheath since i would have to wrap it or put some scales on it, Other than that i LOVE this little knife :) looks awsome! :), i'm really digging small little fixed blades ever since i got my Izula. Great review Mark!!! Seriously you did a GREAT job reviewing it :)
HEY MARK i enjoy watching your videos i just recently brought the hawks hellion survivor 2020 its awesome, sheaths great to it has 2 big pockets to store essential survival items.i think the knife would excel in all tasks except maybe gutting/skinning not that ive tried to yet.I really like the looks/size of the bk13 Remora and it would fit nicely in sheath pocket to make the hellion complete.have you done any gutting, skinning, filleting.ect and hows the remora holding up thanks ( :
I'm not a hunter these days so none of that has been done. I have this simply as a backup blade and should I need to use it for those purposes I've no doubt it would do the job. Check out the KA-BAR Johnson Adventure Piggyback too, I prefer it to this one. I've got a review in my fixed blade playlist. Thanks for watching.
@TheRATPT01 It should retain well, that little indent on the sheath locks the knife in pretty good. However, it is only plastic so long term it may weaken. Pity it's not kydex, but then I guess the price would be that much higher.
Great vid:), have you tried hoochie cord ?
really interested now :), and do you think it could be attached to anything ?
Awesome
Zac
@TheLazySpoiledKitty I don't think the sheath is so bad, it is cheap sure, but it works. I'm liking these small skeleton style knives, just got another model to try. I am trying to decide between an Izula of the Becker ESEE.
@zogary1 Have not tried hootchis cord, I'm have lots of paracord and keep finding new uses for it. I think this would attach to a pole no problems if you wanted to make a spear, maybe a little small but it should work.
@krazy4knives Thanks mate, appreciate the sub. Best wishes.
@tendollarword Thanks for the input, I reckon th eIzula it will be :)
Hard to believe Becker designed a huge round chunk of metal right where your finger should be.
people prolly asked this already but could it do light batoning?
@AussieMark909 In my opinion get the Izula :), i heard some hear downsides of the sheath of the Becker Esee a.k.a Eskabar. Check out Virtuovice and his videos about the problem.
I just got the Becker BK7 with the small sheath and need a small multi purpose knife for the front sheath.
How much did it cost you mark? Did you get it in Oz? If so where? Thanks
Nice comments on the sheath, it does strike me as a bit of a hazard. Cheers
Got mine from the USA, not sure if any locals suppliers have them.
AussieMark909 have you tried cutting edge knives
Not bought anything there for quite some time. I did find that sometimes knives listed on the site where not actually in stock. Don't know if that's still the case.
@AussieMark909 I bet it will gut any size animal Big or small
May be a nice looking knife but wish they hadnt made with 440A, their 1095 crovan is much better as in bk14
@Valerieannleeh LOL, such as girly comment :) Cheers Valerie.
Thats fine I've found that even with extremely expensive post $39-50 or more depending on what get, Its still way cgeaoer than buying from Aussie sellers who seem Very Greedy. Charging 3 times RRPrice!!
Appreciate your enthusiasm mate but I got one of these, or similar, free with my bk9. I've never found a single use for it it 6 years. Maybe lashed as a spear point but don't know.
Too small for any cutting tasks, compared to the necker or izula, for the price. Pretty pointless very small sharp piece of metal.
Is this carbon steel? Maybe used as a striker but you get a but of metal with a Flint rod for free.
Keep up the videos but wouldn't recommend buying it for itself.
Don't be such a Debbie Downer. Geesh!
Ok, firs the izula knife (named after ant) becuse of idependenc and ability to survive. And now remora (named after fish) becuse ataching its slelf to biger kni
@thetimetohunt Only if you want to kill small things :)
