    You have a great setup there. 👍🏼👍🏼
    I’ve been carrying a BK11 since 2013.
    A decent piece of kit.
    No pouch, I just added a piece of inner tube and put everything under it; wrapped with jute twine, two tinder-quick tabs, button compass, and a dog tag signal mirror. Where you have the fat wood, I have a ferro-rod toggle.
    On my lanyard, instead of dressing it up with paracord, I added pace beads. Nine on the right, and five on the left.

      @@robertsbushcraft I took that advice to heart and left the coating on! After three trips out this year it is showing wear on the finish, but no stains or rust 👍 my chums think it looks great, scrapes and all.

    I don’t even worry about getting hung by the Paracord. That’s the job of the knife is to cut it. And by chance that one’s not there there’s another in my pocket.

    I love the blade but can't do the handle so I'm considering the Eskabar . I have the BK18 HARPOON and love the steel, just wish the tweeners had a bit more meat at the front of the grip. I think I'll eventually get the BK10 crewman , it's one I've always had an eye on and the grips are much bigger.

    I’m curious why your dad didn’t force a patina with coffee or a vinegar style solution? I’d love to know the rust resistance with the 1095 Cro-Van and high use of your dad’s knife.

    • @robertsbushcraft
      @robertsbushcraft  2 года назад +1

      He did! What you see in the video is the result of a natural patina that comes from a forced patina. He used vinegar on it several years ago to force a patina and he hasn't done it since then. These knives rust very easily with the factory coating removed. He mentions often that he wishes he'd had left the factory coating on the blade.

    When the coating is removed bluing the blade works really well for protection, I just use the Birchwood Casey cold blue. I dunno about using that with food though, what do you think?

    • @robertsbushcraft
      @robertsbushcraft  3 года назад

      That is a good point! I feel that if all of the bluing has set an all excess had been wiped off, washed with Dawn and coated with mineral oil, I feel that it would be fine to use with food. Although you always run the risk of having the bluing in your food and I cannot imagine that would be good for you!

    So what do you think about stripping the blade but leaving the coating on the handle?

    • @robertsbushcraft
      @robertsbushcraft  2 года назад +1

      My opinion is to leave the coating on the entire blade. This steel rusts pretty quick and the coating prevents that. I stripped the coating off of my BK9 and BK16 years ago and really wish that I hadn't.

    Where can I get the round snap apart gizmo's on the paracord lanyard?

  • @chefl6681
    @chefl6681 2 года назад +1

    How did you keep your knife from sliding out the sheath ?

    • @robertsbushcraft
      @robertsbushcraft  2 года назад +1

      It snaps in place. I wear mine so that the handle is facing up towards my chin and not down towards my feet. Gravity and shock from walking and running will work the knife out of the sheath when it's worn with the handle facing down if you're not careful. Wearing it upright (like you would on your belt) puts a stop to that effect.

    • @chefl6681
      @chefl6681 2 года назад

      @@robertsbushcraft it’s funny because the whole time I never snapped it in all the way because of my paracord I had wrapped around I took it off and wallaaaa

    • @michaeljacobs8366
      @michaeljacobs8366 2 года назад

      I have the bk16 and like it but it needs a side kick.looking at the 11 and 14 I kept going back to the 11 but was just seeing what people thought that already had one

    • @robertsbushcraft
      @robertsbushcraft  2 года назад

      @@michaeljacobs8366 That's my setup too. I always liked the look of the BK11 over the BK14 and honestly, that was pretty much the deciding factor for me as they are both pretty much the same blade. The bottle opener is also a wire breaker that works really well and gives me the extra tool option. So, the scales tipped toward the BK11.
