Thanks Steve, this was very helpful. We came home from vacation and the water wasn't dispensing, but ice was. I went and got a new filter to put in and when I did, I noticed that stuff in the fridge part was frozen, so I turned down thermostat and went to replace filter. With filter out, I barely touched the housing and broke a piece off (probably was broke when I unscrewed filter cap). Thanks again, watched a few other videos, very informative.
@partselect sir/ maam , please be advised it fixed itself. I took out the face thing in the freezer, temp was set to medium..... i then set it to high. :[ thx to your video, i had a clue to what i was doing......thx again for your help partselect
Thanks, model # is FRS23R4AQ2. I think I found the necessary 5/16" tube on the partselect site, was just curious about the removal of the old tubing and installation of the new one.
I'm sorry that you ran into problems replacing the filter housing. If you wish to explain the challenges you had it might be helpful to others who need to do this type of repair!
LOVE your videos! And found this one very useful. I have a Frigidaire FRS6HR4HW5. I replaced the water filter with a Zuma OPFF-RF300 which is what should be used on this model fridge. The filter cup started to leak (overflowed). I noticed the filter cup wouldn't twist to the same place as before with the new filter. I bought a new filter cup and o-ring, and the filter cup still overflows. Suggestions?
@@adaptiveelectrical6467 I bought a new filter cup and a new housing unit. You still had to tighten the filter cup very tightly. I mean VERY tightly. Hope this helps.
@@adaptiveelectrical6467 Also, I found that you should tighten the filter cup to the housing unit before installing the two pieces back onto the fridge..just so that you can get it nice and tight.
The cold air from the freezer blows right on the filter housing causing it to crack. Took me awhile to understand why my housing cracked twice so the third time, I installed the housing farther down the refrigerator. I installed it betwee the lower and middle shelves. No more problems.
Although we have not received any complaints like that, I would be concerned that the air deflector may be damaged and causing the air to be directed towards the filter housing.
The housing would not crack any other way. While the refrigerator is running, most likely at night when everything is cooler, the deflector always blows on the housing causing it to freeze and crack. The next day when everything warms back up, the housing is cracked and leaking. The reason you have not heard complaints of that nature is because every comment I have read, the person wonders why it cracks. They are lay people and do not think of these things. Have a nice weekend.
This is my exact refrigerator. When I get a larger size cup of water it's been squirting out from the filter inside the refrigerator where the filter is. And I have no clue why.
I have a whirlpool side by side mod#ED2FHEXVB01. Everything was work fine until I put a new filter in. The new filter caused the water dispenser to dispense water very slowly. Put old filter back in works great. Put three new filters in same problem. Whats the problem???
Hi partselect, your videos are awesome. I have a slightly different problem: In this video there are two waterlines going into the filter (clear and amber). I've discovered a leak in my amber line down near the compressor (in between the solenoid valve where the water comes in from the wall, and the filter. Do you have any videos illustrating this repair? Is it as easy as disconnecting the line from the filter and the valve and snaking a new line up? Thanks!
what about the possible leaking where the water filter plugs in...do you have a video for changing that part?
Thank You

Saved me lots of money and gave me plenty of new knowledge. Thanks for the insight! Cheers!!!

just wanted to say thanks :-) couldn't figure out what the heck that screw was, of course it's a 1/4" hex...
Thanks Steve! Taught me a thing or two there.

What a major pain to replace.

Did you find a solution to this? I have same problem

I had my filter cup crack for the 3rd time. Should i put back the styrofoam cover? Where is the air deflector?

It is a Frigidaire Gallery model LGUB2642LF3
+Gary Fryer Check the O rings on the filter as well as the base that the filter fits into.
I have a black O shaped rubber ring in there (on housing or in cup, not sure) where exactly should it be placed to work properly?

What part number was the filter that you used?
Should there be water in the cup housing during normal usage?
after changing the water filter the ice indicater is still blinking, claiming i need a new filter?

water is leaking under the water filter. What could be the cause?
If no filter, will that cause no water and ice ?
aye aye, i will try that....
Thanks, now if you could just tell me why my fridge is suddenly freezing (and breaking the filter housing) on the top shelf... :)
+Richard Welch What model number do you have?
