I worked as crew on the movie Shutter Island and was all over that property for months. The insides of the buildings are even creepier than the outsides
A wind vane, weather vane, or weathercock is an instrument used for showing the direction of the wind. It is typically used as an architectural ornament to the highest point of a building. The word vane comes from the Old English word fana, meaning "flag".
Adam, lived on that property for a couple of months doing psych. Rotation in nursing school. Hated every moment, so depressing and creepy, add a thunder storm…ugh. House mother from hell. Toilet paper that was lethal. There was a multi story 1960’s building at entrance, Clark Bldg.,where we worked, gave us big ring of skeleton keys to go between wards. This was when they started de-institutionalization, and we had gas rationing . Made it hard to get back to Boston on the weekend. There are a few videos on RUclips.
Wow Nancy thanks for that bit of history. Sorry it was unpleasant for you to say the least. It's creepy now I could only imagine what it was like before.
Omg iam watching you and your father. I can't tell you how happy iam. Your father and mother are truly lucky for the live they share . Adam you are who you are for having a beautiful example of true happiness in a family and real love for each other . Thank you to Adams father. You have brought I swear absolute happiness to my life. Nothing is possible without our LORD our real example of love for all of us
Ok obviously Adam now that you mention it its time to explore the underground tunnels, I recommend beginning the process around 11pm it will be awesome (you may need to break some locks just have josh do it) bring flashlights water and so on no one will see you underground so its good.. Fyi its weathervane
Its a great idea he should do it once under ground no one would know he's on the premises and if he allows himself to get caught just for the extra adventure he could make a jail house video which would be a bonus for us
My Moms worked here I remember picking her up with my Dad . There is a cemetery there and there are no names on the Headstones just a # and alot of the headstones were picked up and thrown into the woods by groundskeeper s to make it easier to mow . It is sad the people became a number then became forgotten truly lost . 🙏🏻

My first grade class visited the Franklin Park Zoo around 1965. I remember seeing the gorilla cage with the bars bent and broken where apparently a gorilla had escaped,, (if I remember correctly, lol).
Welcome to Boston. If you get a chance visit Peddock's island in Boston Harbor National Park. There is a Shutter Island filming connection there as well. Also, there is an abandoned army base with mortar pits that you can explore. On the south side of the island is in a mostly abandoned Portuguese fishing village that you can walk to. A convenient shuttle boat service makes the harbor islands easy to access.
Interesting & kind of creepy vlog. Liked seeing the old zoo. It looks more spacious than the old Griffith Park Zoo and less dangerous to explore than the one in Griffith Park too! Love your NE state vlogs. The architecture looks more medieval and rustic. Your friend Josh also added nicely to lighten up the atmosphere and keep you from jumping in that pit. Please be safe. ❤️🙏🏻
I really like Adam and I really like Josh. No pretentiousness still very excited over the small things in life and both seem to be generally nice people who legit enjoy small facts and histories while being open to new ideas and information. I guess I just love to see people truly excited and wonderous over smaller aspects of history and tidbits of info rather than acting as though its not cool to be interested or its mundane to speak about parts of films or info that isnt groundbreaking just interesting. Getting excited over a sidewalk or a tunnel rather than having to have mind blowing discoveries at all times or its beneath them...just refreshing
There's another hospital just like this one but not as big in Waltham called the gabler state hospital. It's one big building but not as big as those buildings there. It closed back in the late '80s early 90s
Adam! Lived my WHOLE life here in MA, never knew about Medfield State Hospital, it took you to show me and today I went and SO awesome. Thanks for doing what you do, you're the man, Adam! Come back sometime, if you hit the South Shore, I have great POIs to share. Safe travels!
I went there Saturday with my girls, after watching this. I never knew it was there either. It was a little busier, with the bands playing. Got to see inside the chapel too
@@bigragu6828 Lucky, I didn't know the chapel was available for the public. I figured it was open for the event, etc. I found the caretakers Instagram, said he'd let people in if asked. Next time I will try. #hindsight2020
@@paullupien9925 the chapel and “morgue” building are going to be connected by a bridge, in the near future, it will become a performing arts center. Glad they are using the property in a wonderful manner.
Kirkbride influenced the building of many state hospitals in Massachusetts. All buildings are connected via underground tunnels. The houses were designed to provide a more intimate setting for the patients to make friends as opposed to large hospitals. Much more of a small community feeling. This is why the buildings are so far back from the road not because they were bad people it was for peace and keeping road noise away from the patients. Nobody says dunkies in Massachusetts they call it dunks.
what a surprise to hear you were in Jamaica Plain cause that was the town my Grand parents had a home on Burr street & my Mom was born there in the 20’s. lots of memories as a child visiting them. Enjoy Boston with so much history there. Till tomorrow shall you!!!
Oh wow Exploring with Josh he stays in Boston what a nice surprise he's a very nice guy down to earth! He usually does exploring videos old abandoned places and photography and works with Steve Ronin sometimes, you are very lucky to meet Josh top man!😊
OMG. I have no idea how I missed this upload!! I only live 20 minutes from Medfield State and absolutely love going there to walk the grounds. I would've been in complete shock if I had happened to bump into you there!
LOVE Shutter Island, what a crazy story…shocking ending. Leo doesn’t make junk films. I’m glad the buildings look pretty well kept and turned it into a park.
Wow.. Franklin Park Zoo. We used to go there on Sundays.. it was a REAL Thing 65 - 70 years ago. 1950's. Seeing the caged animals ... like a prison....always made me so sad. Kind of shocking to see it all fallen in to total disrepair.
Medfield was where I did my psych nurse training. I love this place, so many great memories. RIP to all my patients there.

Bill,
Bet you could write a book about the place...
... actually, maybe you should.
🤨 🤔 = 🥺

Grew up in Massachusetts and went to the original FPZ when we were kids. Looks scary now along with the hospital.
It is great to see Josh working with you. Josh is one of the very first RUclipsrs I started watching. He is so professional. Top rated RUclipsr.
