I lived in Upland in the 80s and my family used Ontario Airport quite a bit to fly to see my grandparents in the Midwest in the summer. This brings back memories. Thanks.

Wow, it's interesting how memories can stay with you so clearly, but then forget what you had for lunch yesterday. Like the Space Shuttle disaster, I remember watching it on TV over & over again.

Coming from London in the 70s and 8os we would always fly into ont via sfo or Ord on air cal or United as my uncle and aunt lived in Upland and it was a pain in the ass to get to lax it was a great 👍 time Coming here every year for 6 weeks

Because of the capacity of the 727 a lot of them found their way over there in Asia during Vietnam fairing servicemen back and forth

I remember seeing an Air New Zealand 747 landing to Ontario circa 1988; one foggy morning from the Scripps College pool when I was a lifeguard. It was very low. They must have been in trouble.

2000-2012 was working for Defense Courier Service, and got to fly in the cockpit of UPS 767s from HNL to ONT, then DC-8s to SDF. After about 18-20 hours in Louisville it was back to Honolulu, same route and planes. Did this at least every 6 weeks. Greatest job ever!!

I'm not sure what month you took this. i moved to KSDF in the summer of 89. i worked for Big Brown then. i have worked on the DC-8's (N880UP) you showed and the Jumbo pictured. your video brought back some great moment memories. one of them being, a bunch of us used to pile in a Main't van and go to the terminal for some ice cream at one of the vendors there. we all thought that (voted) America west had the best looking stewardess at that time. I've enjoyed your video TWO THUMBS UP!. Thank you for posting. the airlines today, are not the same.

Was ONT still owned by LAX back then? Seems to have more traffic than it does now which is a shame because it's a very nice airport with the addition of terminals 2 and 4 now it seems only southwest flies out of there

Oh wow, I used to fly on those World Airways DC-10's quite a bit during the 1980's. World Airways was one of the original, low-fare/no frills carriers. They gave you a box lunch and there were no movies or anything like that. They had some of the best pilots though. World's owner recruited lots of combat experienced fighter pilots so we were definitely in good hands. Thanks for catching that old bird on film. Nice memories.

I used to have an office on the south side of the airport where the video is being shot. This appears to be before the new terminal was built. Must’ve seemed quite old-fashioned flying out of that old terminal even in 1989 (which they still use today for TV/movie productions.) It’s also kind of hard to believe some of those AA mad dogs are still flying 30 years later!

I remember the old terminal at ONT, you could get a double pint at the small bar for $2 and you still had to walk up stairs to broad the plane. Only the Delta "New" terminal had jetways.

Nice mix of "oldies" airplanes and colors. Old USAir, old America West, World Airways, United/TWA 727 and no WhisperJet, and my favorite, DC8-73 in UPS colors. I went in there a few times in our old DC8-63. Memory lane for sure. Thanks for the post.

This was back before LAX (owner of ONT) choked off Ontario..and it became on the unwanted step-child and started losing flights The City of Ontario now owns the airport again and has a plan to bring it back as a major airport in Southern California The number of passengers since the city took over is starting to creep up a few percentage points already.

As if right now, a China Airlines A350 operates at ONT. There’s also plans to build a new rail transit from ONT so expect more airlines to divert flights to ONT. I’m hoping for Cathay, Garuda, Japan, Ana, Korean, Singapore, etc.

I love those 727s. They certainly didn't whisper when they were taking off.
Today's aircraft are so boring to watch because they're much quieter and they don't leave trails of smoke like the 727s did.

Back in the old days at ONT, you could park in the parking lot and watch the planes land and takeoff from the main terminal buildings before they made them two-story buildings after 9/11. Now you can't see anything on the runways unless you go upstairs. And the only way you can do that now is if you are a ticketed passenger on a flight. How sad because it was very exciting for me an an aviation enthusiast to be able to do that. These days are long gone now! What a pity!

    • @heraldlepps2436
      @heraldlepps2436 6 лет назад +1

kenpalmer1965 it doesn't have to be that way. Remember 20 years ago you didn't have to show ID to board a plane. The paranoia is very heavy these days. I'm sure it will get worse.

Classic, indeed! Thanks for sharing. So many type of aircraft then, so many more airlines. I live nearby and the spotting action there is boring most hours. I hop the new ONT self management squad pulls itself out of the rut LAX management put it in. Meanwhile, I'll spot for my Kalitta B727 (my all time favorite aircraft) which comes on an irregular schedule once or twice a week.
