It is capable to deliver quite sharp image and quite wide apparent field of view with no noticeable color fringing but eye relief seems to be almost nonexistent if I want to enjoy all of those 68 degrees, and it’s really easy to get into this annoying kidney beans situation, also using it with smartphone holder is almost impossible due to this issue (only very narrow part of specified AFOV is visible for a camera. What middle range aliexpress alternative (up to €100) would you recommend (if any) to address those issues? Wide angle (60+ degrees), possibly flat field, high contrast, no or substantially reduced kidney beans aaaaand… acceptable eye-relief (north of 10 mm possibly?) ??? Or the only options for “budget-concious” (or simply “poor’ if you will) people are some solid plossls or orthos with 50ish AFOV range?
Hello. Yeah the 'red lines' do have their limits, for cellphone imaging it might help removing the rubber guards. There are several options for eyepieces around 100$. My favorite one with ample eye relief, actually a bit too much eye relief so that I had to buy some extra eye guards is the AngelEyes 14mm, same eyepiece as the Oberwerk (Link below). I have the 14mm one and I am very satisfied, although the AFOV is a bit smaller , around 63 degrees which is about the same as the 'red lines'. The best thing about this eyepiece is that it is very sharp at the center, sharper than the 'red lines'. The edges are a bit imperfect but that is fine for me. This eyepiece is incredibly comfortable to use and the sharpness on center makes it one of my favorite eyepieces and definitely a keeper. Another thing I do for observing planetary is to simply 2x barlow my SVBony SV191 Zoom. For this reason I do not own a sub-11mm fixed eyepiece anymore. My highest power eyepiece is the MaxVision 11mm and of course the Zoom which goes to 7mm. You must get the GSO coma corrector, I have the StellaLyra one, it reduces stars to pin points to the edges, I use mine in a. GSO 12 Inch dob.. Highly recommended 👍
Yeah , that is something which I am considering, although the Coma with the eyepieces I have (70 degrees) is not that bad at all. Also it seems there is some work involved with it, there is a 15 page thread on cloudynights on how to set it up correctly with spacers etc 😅. I've heard though that it has chromatic aberrations on high powers when observing the planets so you have to take it out during that. What is your experience?
I have 3 Televue eyepieces, 31 Nagler,22 panoptic and 13mm Nagler on my f5, 10 inch Dobsonian. I cannot use the 31mm or 22mm on this telescope without a coma corrector, so much for expensive eyepieces. If I look at the center of the image on my 13mm Nagler eyepiece with a Televue Barlow, the images of the moon, Saturn and Jupiter look the same as on Svbony sv215 except for a narrower field. This is not really a problem for viewing planets. I cannot see any more detail using the Televue 13mm Nagler eyepiece compared to sv215. I also have an 8mm Angeleye eyepiece that cost about $50 from Aliexpress and I was astounded by its quality. Comparing it to sv215 the sv215 might be a tad sharper or is it that I am affected by psychological pricing, if it costs more it has to be better. The purchase that I made that made most difference was replacing the telescope's focuser with a GSO dual speed focuser that kept the scope collimated, regardless of the focus position and the weight of the eyepiece.
I completely agree about the focuser. The GSO focuser is in another league. I don't think it is psychological about the sharpness in the center. There are differences from eyepiece to eyepiece. One of the reasons I like my AngelEyes 14mm is that it is very sharp in the center .
No you can forget about it. Maybe at zenith, without the Moon, in 2" 30mm eyepiece with an UHC filter and a good night with good transparency you could see something, anything.. otherwise it is a very tough target. Bortle 3,4 with UHC.. amazing in an 8".
I have a stellalyra 8 dob.i have mainly bst starguider ed eyepieces 5mm 8,12,15,18 and 24mm i also have 3 baader Hyperion 8,13 and 17mm.in your opinion is this ok?I have 1 2 inch 30mm stellalyra eyepiece which came with the scope and a 2 x and 3 x svbony barlows.i have 32 and 40mm plossl also.thanks for video!
The stellalyra 8" DOB is f/6 right? I think the Baader Hyperion is more than enough in that telescope. Also the 30mm stellalyra is the same as the GSO Superview 30mm I got. That eyepiece should also be quite good in the f/6 8". Yeah , I think you are well stocked and I wouldn't add anything else. Maybe a Zoom for convenience and fun, the SVBony 7-21mm goes for 49$ these days which is cheap!

Your description mentions Panoptic… didn’t see any Panoptics in the video. Granted the cost is quite a bit more, but Televue is known as some of the best eyepieces out there. Love to see a comparison of the skyrover (which you say is the best in the world) compared to a a similar piece like a 27mm panoptic.

@@astralfields1696 I wonder just how much real world difference there would be between an Explore Scientific and a TeleVue Ethos of similar FL and FOV on fast scopes like a f4.5 14" newt... I heard that the ES is comparable even though it's 1/3-1/2 the price.
Not much of a difference to be honest. For TeleVue Ethos you are paying also for the superior glass (I hope), better coatings and generally better materials. At these premium levels there is the law of diminishing returns.. you pay a lot more for a lot less gain of performance.

There are several options for eyepieces around 100$. I completely agree about the focuser. The GSO focuser is in another league.
I don't think it is psychological about the sharpness in the center. There are differences from eyepiece to eyepiece.

I was saying that the angeleyes 14mm is a Panoptic design .. it is a specific configuration of the lens which is called the panoptic design.

@@PlandemicSeries-complenty of people have had many eyepieces on Cloudy Nights. A lot like the ADM or rebanded version of ADM.
