  • Most of us look forward to the time when our gardens have fully grown. We see verdant hills covered with flowering perennials and soaring, green trees.
When that happens, you have to face facts. We can't cultivate as many of our favorite plants since those trees will eventually shadow the ground. The amount of light available in our gardens is insufficient for many plants.
Fortunately, there are other options, particularly for those who want to plant shrubs in partially shaded areas. There are some stunning highlights that we can enjoy.
Find below a selection of the best shade bushes currently available.

Hydrangea quercifolia prefer acid, not alkaline soil.

Hi, very nice! What would you recommend for a full shade (no light) area in zone 8 (Pacfic NW)? Prefer to be evergreen grows to 5-8' and can use as an foundation shrub- up against the house. Thanks Mike

If you are a beekeeper, honey made from mountain laurel tastes terrible but doesn’t harm the bees.

@@catchygarden7378 American Linden is a great replacement for Mountain Laurel. Bees love them and the honey is great! A full grown Linden will typically produce as much pollen as an acre of golden rod for example. Linden is also known as Basswood.
