"Sign on to a process and see where it takes you." Momentum plays a very large part in getting anywhere with one's dreams. One step follows another, and before long we all trace a trajectory of discovery that brings meaning to our activities.
Chuck Close has inspired me decades-- since I was in college, and still does. He's one of my favorite artists!! Thank you for this wonderful portrait of his life and advice.
This is so inspiring in so many ways. I think this should be shown in schools to children and adults of all ages. We can all do anything we set our minds to. Parents, family and friends matter, and we all need to feel special and loved. Chuck Close you have delivered a message so valuable, and I so appreciate your words of wisdom.
We were shown it in my art class (I'm going into my senior year). Yes, we were learning about modern art but a lot of us were feeling down because our end of the semester portraits weren't looking just how we wanted them to. So our art teacher showed us this and it inspired us to not be so hard on ourselves. Then the classes portraits turned completely around and personally, I drew the best piece of art that I've drawn in my life.
You've misunderstood Chuck Close's point. Amateurs idle until they have inspiration. You have to be able to continue working without it, just for the enjoyment of the work.

thank you for sharing. good work ethic. very cool works. faces have been my nemesis...new goal? For me, breaking things into small steps with built in rewards is the only way I get things done, otherwise my intention deficit disorder derails all my plans for some immediate reward.
It is not. since his work is photographic like he doesnt need inspiration or story or "romance" he describes his own view of working not of what we other artists might be concerned with. If you say that romance doesnt belong in modern art i am against you. if you say im a amateur or an uncreative nonrebeller well, im not that either. so im not of the conformists who are "noncorfmosits."
well, apparently i cant see what im responding to because i have too many negative votes and it was removed. sure, I think that too, as ive tried to be a professional myself.
