The Ancient collector rule triggers at the end of every phase thanks to the rules commentary! This makes Trazyn much better in hypercrypt as you can remove him with the hypercrypt rule and as long as helis unit contoled it at the end of the enemy fight phase it's still yours. "Objective Secured: Various abilities allow you to retain control of an objective marker even if you have no models within range of it (for example, the Objective Secured ability of Intercessor Squads). Regardless of how these rules are worded, control of objective markers is determined at the end of each phase and turn (see Core Rules Errata), so while you retain control of an objective marker affected by this ability even if you have no models within range of it, at the end of a phase or turn your opponent can gain control of that objective marker if their Level of Control over it is greater than yours."
Not so I’m afraid. The Ancient Collector rule applies only in the command phase if the unit is on an objective you control. The control of an objective is a different rule set entirely to the Ancient Collector ability so it’s not stickying everything each phase. I wish it did, but it doesn’t.
In a just world he would let you bring one character or 150 points of another faction's battle line. Put Trazyn in a unit of Immortals in Awakened Dynasty to give out the +1 to hit and he gets to reroll Wound rolls of 1 or completely rerolls all wound vs units within range of an objective thanks to the Immortals. Undying Legions Reanimates on a D3+1 if the target unit has a character. Also taking Szeras to buff the immortals also buffs Trazyn. His Obliterator gains an AP -1 and Enemy weapons lose a point of AP making his unit a 2+ Armor Save. Or you can choose to to use Protocol of the Hungry Void which gives him and his unit a +1 Str and AP -1 which is not cumulative with other AP bonuses. Lastly, if you are not taking a Cryptek, you can attach Trazyn to a unit of 10 Warriors in a Ghost Ark and zoom across the board contenstinf objectives and making them sticky while the Ghost Ark reanimates any warriors nearby. To be honest I'm really excited that the Triarch Praetorians dropped 40 points for a unit of 10. They have so many abilities on their data sheet in 10th with the biggest change gaining access to Deep Strike which means they can shoot the turn they arriveand attempt tp charge, plus they can reroll charge rolls, and fall back and charge. In Awakned Dynasty they have a strat that gives the Rod of the Covenant Assault and you can use the CCB's Rez Orb to Trigger Renaimation for a D6. They also gain +1 to Wound in the Obeisance Phalanx vs the unit you targeted as your Worthy Foe and the Rod of the Covenant is Stronger version of a Power weapon which can also be thrown 12" and each successful wound deals 2 damage unless you opt for the Particle Caster Pistol and Voidblade. The Pistol has 3 shots at Str 5 with AP0 and Damage 1with Devastinging wounds. The voidblade has the same stats as the Rod except that it gains +1 attack, but it also deals 1 damage instead of 2
I guess my comment on the Trazyn Surrogate host used to sticky objectives from positioned immortal units with Royal Wardens was too late to be included in this. Here’s one to think about though - in Awakened Dynasty you can resurrect models that were destroyed in any phase of the game. The restriction of the ability making all rules triggered by the death not activate wouldn’t apply because the strat isn’t a rule triggered but a Strat activated so the other character model should be able to get back up at the end of the command phase.
@@jbw065 yes, we recorded at the weekend, sorry. It's a shame as it would have made a great talking point - thank you! Interesting idea in terms of resurrecting characters using the Awakened strat, too
If Trazyn was less than 65-75 points then he would be worth slotting in for an immortal unit starting on home objective. With -65-75 points you can can get most crypteks or one of the many 75 point units - x5 immortals, reanimator, spyder, etc.
I had this idea for trazyn, he could maybe grab like 5 basic battle line units from any faction, their core abilities would be stripped and some sub abilities for balancing but he can summon them within 12 inches of him in game once
If his sticky ability activated at the end of your turn instead of the command phase, he'd instantly be more usable in hypercrypt as you could sticky 5 objectives instead of his current max of 2

Since hypercrypt pickups are at the end of the opponents turn and coming in from reserve is in the reinforcements step, trazyn isn't on the board during the command phase.

Dude needs a better model. I need him trapping some rare unit or looking at his C’tan shard. Maybe have 2 or 3 units you can pick from different factions.
What about the ability to transfer his mind in a character and take control of its body ? Trazyn fig would be deleted and the character would get the sticky objective ability on top of its other ones ! And the same thing would be possible again next turn by transferring Trazyn’s mind / sticky objective ability on another character without deleting anyone ! And to justify the fact that you wouldn’t get rid of Trazyn fig asap, its weapon profil could be enhanced and so its point cost to get balanced !
Should be able to take the Allies definitely. Say up to 25% of the army can be "allied" units from any other faction but with following limits; no choices allowed with the unique keyword, for every allied choice taken Trazyns points increase by something say like 25 for batteline units, 50 for characters, non batteline and vehicles. The allied units start in reserve but Trazyn can bring them into play during the game within 18 inches of the Trazyn model but like say 6 inches from enemy units or something.
Instead of his current Surrogate Hosts ability he should be able to set up from reserve with his unit a'la Sanguinor, that would be neat, or something like an unlimited access to the Protocol of the Eternal Revenant, but it puts him in Strategic Reserve, being annoying and doing Actions
Counterpoint to the generic big blob strategy. Unlike most Lords, he doesn't really give many bonuses to his bodyguard unit. Better to stick him on a small squad and use him to pick up objectives. A squad of 10 warriors is actually very good at stealing objectives. And the necron faction has a few good ways of teleporting them around. If you don't worry about any other lords they actually fit on a ghost arc, which would be one of the few times you could use it as a transport. Rely on his surrogate host ability to get out of there if things look grim. He won't do much versus large hordes, but sticky objectives later in the game versus elite armies can be very strong. Is it 75 points strong? No. But if you need to bring him out of love for his lore, I think that's the best way to play to his strengths. Just zap him around picking up objectives, as cheaply as possible. -edit doomsday ark to ghost ark, whoops
