  • All valuations were correct at the time of broadcast. This toy boat was made in 1910 by Gebrüder Bing, a highly respected German toymaker. Due to the fact it has not been used much, an astonishing valuation is about to surface! Hugh Scully and the experts from Antiques Roadshow take a look at some fantastic antiques and the history and stories surrounding them. This clip was filmed in Penshurst Place in 2000.
Welcome to the home of Antiques Roadshow on RUclips. Here you'll find all the best clips from Britain's most popular antiques appraisal show. Would be an improvement if children watched this show in history class.

What I love about the Antiques Roadshow is the conjuring up of the many untold stories, spinning forth in my own mind from the told stories and expert elaborations.
In truth, phantasising about what could have happened, to what kind of people, and when and how, gives much fodder to an active imagination and adds a lot to the charme of this already exciting format.

My family! They started off with woven baskets, invented the entire concept of the trade show, made the best live steam and clockwork boats and trains, and one of the two brothers (Ignatz Bing) discovered a beautiful cave in Germany. By 1933, everything, including the cave, was "nationalized" by the Nazis and the Bings, who were Jewish, fled to England, where Stephan Bing helped to start the British toy company Trix.

The trolley is a launching aid - you let it into the water down a slope....just as you would on a boat slip in full size. Gebrueder Bing also built live-steam and clockwork model trains not only for the home German market, but also for Bassett-Lowke in Northampton, under the trademark 'Bing for Bassett-Lowke' - also very collectable and highly-regarded, in site of being overlooked by the AR expert.

10 years ago, on eBay, (in Brussels) looking for something else, i saw a lot for 5€ and went for it because i thought some rail-road wagons would look good in my display cabinet.
There was no description of the lot, except for "a box with train accessories". when i bought it home, the accessories were piled up in the box and very dirty. after a first rapid clean-up, I discovered the mark GBN on one of the items (the small house) and later on, another one on the crane and one also on the platform with a bench. Some of the items are in a really bad shape, some bent, some loosing a lot of paint.
In the box, there was :
1 station with a telegraph pole on the roof. (no marking found)
1 little house with a gate (mark GBN)
    1 little tender (no mark)
    4 passenger wagons (no mark)
    1 baggage wagon (no mark)
    1 simple gate.
    1 gate with a crank.
1 crane with 1 or 2 cranks (GNB)
1 small shed with a red sign
1 big platform (bad shape) with a bench (GBN)
1 double bridge + the 2 ramps (no marks found)
about 20 rails (3 strait, the rest curved)
(in the bottom of the box, I also found 2 quite oxidized penny toys barques and a small nice flat tin war boat).
