I remember playing with a fixie as a kid and sometimes if you did a lot of forward pass/around the world your fingers would go numb from the yoyo smacking it a lot. I don't think most people are at risk tbh.

I remember when I got my first real metal throw and I was so excited I was yoyoing all day and night and it would come back SUPER hard and after like 3 4 days of just .nonstop yoyoing I had a couple black and blue bruises on the palm of my hand, and for some reason I was super excited about it. Lol bc i thought it meant I was improving,nope just beating my hand to a bloody pulp is all🤣🤣

Back when I used to yoyo few hours every day, I used to have bigger callus on my pointer finger than on my middle finger. I cut my pointer fingers with string so many times. After some time my pointers were rough as sand papers 😅 I even developed callus on my pinky finger from wrapping the string at beginning of my favourite front style speed combo.

I just ordered my first yo-yo and while waiting to get it I decided to subscribe so I could learn how to yo-yo
I started taking yoyo seriously for around a year and my interest was tapering off near the end of that year, however I accidentally stabbed my finger with a knife which cut the nerve. I could not feel my left pointer finger for about 6 months and for the few months after the injury it was sore and completely numb. Only just now am I getting back into yoyo after having ~75% of my feeling back. Prior I wasn't yoyoing a lot but not being able to yoyo at all for awhile made me miss it a lot.
Moral of the story never mishandle a knife or sharp tool.
How did it happen?
I have thought about this before, at least there's nothing to worry about. Also Brandon, your editing is really getting better between the tiktok video and this one your content is continuing to improve. Keep it up!

@Everyone I do professional yoyoing and i had same issue so I bought a flexible finger case with rubbered grip and it really dose help trust me on this one guys just use a finger casing

I learned to yoyo with the string wrapped on the first knuckle of the middle finger( not in between first and second) it sometimes hurts alot but i am bad at control with it normal ...i alwayd worried about it so ty for making this video

This happened to me once. I removed the knot because I was feeling pain. When I saw my finger it was like a border seperating me and my tomato red finger. And the catching thingy.

I still feel like this is so weird! I don't get how it happens to just the pointer finger! Shouldn't it happen to the ring finger too because the other half of the yoyo hits it? It doesn't make any since!
My experience, the yoyo hit my palm so hard, but only part of the plam that right below my pointer finger gets bruises, my ring finger is always fine (very small bruises but still hurts like hell while catching the yoyo)
Yeah I don't know, maybe thinner yoyos hit that part more?

Unexpected binds seem to be the big cause of yoyo-related injuries for me - could really see those causing long-term problems (not just some minor bruising) with enough repetition.

Could you solve these problems by adding some sort of cushion on your hand. Of course nothing that would limit your ability to uses the yo-yo, just to stop it from injuring your hand.

Yo-yo’ing is a fun hobby, but when learning new tricks it can hurt like a bitch.
For example, recently when I was working on mastering Rock the Baby, I had to really flick the yo-yo down to get it spinning.
Too fast, and it would for some reason rebound almost immediately and really hurt when I caught it.
Too slow, and I wouldn’t have enough time before it bounced back up. (It was a self-returning yo-yo)
Sounds like you have a cheap Duncan or at least a wooden bearing yoyo. Those don't spin very long and are honestly only good for children or trying to learn the absolute basics, otherwise they feel limiting and just suck to use.
Try a cheap unresponsive (non returning) from Amazon or a better quality responsive (returning). Either one should give you the spin time you are looking for to do a ton of tricks.
My first unresponsive was the MYY N12 and it was like $15 - $20 on Amazon. I don't use it anymore because I like other yoyos more, but it can still do all the same tricks that my $50 - $100 ones can.

Yeah, either way it takes years of that beating to create that problem and even so Dave Schulte's case is really rare.
