Defensively against Edmonton, they were awful. The entire game it looked like Edmonton was on the power play. Numerous defensive breakdowns and turnovers.
I just don’t see this really turning around with Sullivan at the helm. I love him, I’ve defended him right up to opening day this year. But man this defensive system is just horrible. Constant odd man rushes. No possession of the puck. Forwards aren’t back checking. It’s really bad right now. Not even a rookie goaltender could get them going even a little bit
I'm in the same boat. I think if the team hasn't figured it out by the time that game against Anaheim is done, it's time to go. Which will kinda suck, because I like Sully, but they need a real kick in the ass.
@@jbreau Love Sully. I almost wish he forced his way out so he didn’t fall off like this. I think he could be a really good coached for a younger, faster team. Honestly, Buffalo would suit him well

And the Hawks. The problem is, these guys for all their greatness aren't the age the Hawks or Sharks guys were when they declined, they're just literally the age they are now. And I don't think they're ready to go anywhere, other than probably Karlsson. I could see a team like Utah giving up Marino and a 2nd.

Even if he wins a Norris in Pittsburgh it won't change anything about the trade for the sharks.
Only for Grier to waste cap on Toffoli, Wennberg and Goodrow. My issue is not that Grier wanted them as much as he was not paid to take them. Pittsburgh seems to be in trouble. There is still talent on this team, albeit a little on the old side. But at some point, teams like Detroit and Ottawa are going to be moving up. That's not good news for the Pens. Last year at this time, I thought both Pittsburgh and Washington were in similar situations. The Caps seems to be better off than the Pens at this point. If the goaltending continues to be a problem, then Pittsburgh will be below the playoff line.
Team is top on the expected goals on both ends of the ice. Same issue as last season, lacking defensive play. Not just that the defense makes idiotically risky plays on the offensive blue line, but there is no collective defensive effort when play goes to own end. Just change the style of play to fit the aging team. Head coach change should be done soon as possible. Should have been done already last year. That is if the team is still in "win one more time" mode.
I saw a curious list of statistics that showed Crosby is about the 9th best player for the Penguins this season by most metrics, and that he's terrible 5v5.
