Kicking out the CLEFT just slightly guarantees an intersection point where the cambiums layers will touch that would be my number one tip. I see master grafters always doing it in grafting explanation videos, but they don't explain it verbally and don't mention that detail. I learned it from a California Citrus Protection Program grafting video that they demonstrated with a digital visual graphic. Thanks for all the support ✌️🥑
I can’t get buddy tape here so I just use the Amazon stuff. I’ve been using paraffin wrap with success also. Single branch grafts work on seedlings but mature trees seem to abort the branch. I’ve had one successful bud graft. I’m going to try the bark graft next. I saw that Greg puts the scions in his mouth first which I thought would mess it up? I just try and work fast
Growth on an established tree always wants to escape through the host/mother tree so annoying it would rather push new buds then just push the graft. I give the grafts apical dominance and set back the mother tree weekly.
You need a better grafting tape. Parafilm or budding tape that's self adhesive and stretchable and easy for the buds to break thru it. That cheap plastic bag tape you're using dont allow the buds to break thru it and you have to come back and remove those.
I'll keep a close eye on it. Thanks for your input. I appreciate your feedback. I will be trying them all eventually, this is just the beginning of my grafting journey thank you for watching. This has worked for me in the past for both avocados and stone fruit but you are right there been instances where I impatiently cut slit the wrap not knowing if the buds would break through just as a safe precaution and other times I've left alone and it they did break through. I've shared the same doubt myself, but in the sun, it becomes brittle and deteriorates. After about a couple of weeks, if I see the union healing, I sometimes slice the plastic on top of the bud. I've also seen where the plant life wiggles out right between the overlap of the wrap layers. Pull hard and stretch the tape as much as possible, and only go once around would be my recommendation. Thanks for the support. Stay tuned for updates. 🤞🪵🌿🙏
I love using flagging tape after parafilm also for 2 reason. 1 i can wrap it super tight and 2 to easlily see my grafts. What is your reasoning to use it. Since you use the rubber band to get it tight?
UV protection rubber band alone becomes brittle and loosens, so I protect it against the sun rays with the flagging tape, and yeah, redundancy just wrap tight. I don't want the lack of contact to be the reason the graft fails 🌿🥑
@@rjviva9601 browning leaves is normal those are the spent leaves. Avocado trees shed their leaves annually as long as each limb is pushing a new flush of growth you should be fine. 🥑✌️
I ordered 20 and got 15. My supplier was not willing to share more, and some are already leafed out. I'm cutting some in half, just fulfill my list of clients who requested GEM grafting service. I'm mothering out over 20 GEM to take scion/budwood from. For sure I'll be able to get you some in the near future. It would be easier to get you a tree at this point, then budwood no one wants to share. Thanks for the support. Stay tuned. I'll let you know when I can get you some.✌️🥑
Good grafting technique, bad advice on the tape type. You should be using buddy tape so that the new leaves can push through it. With that plastic you are using, the new leaves will die.
Thanks for watching I appreciate your input. Several viewers have expressed the same concern I'll keep a close eye on it. There's been instances where I slit the plastic right after budswell and others where I completely abandoned and they still pushed and broke through.✌️🥑🌿
@fire808surf I've gotten away with using the cheap stuff and actually wrap around the buds leaving them exposed also successfully grafted scions that leafed out. What do you use? Thanks for watching and providing feedback ✌️🥑
Appreciate you showing how it's done!!
Thanks for the support 🪵🌿 Stay tuned for my 2nd annual GEM Avocado tree giveaway. We're drawing cards live holographic card wins the tree ✌️🥑
That's some great information and technique 831AVO! Thanks for sharing.

Nice video!
Thanks for stopping by Johnny always nice to receive support from the YT avo community. ✌️🥑
Im curious to know if the buds can puncture through that saran wrap tape stuff. It looks nice and strong.

No they dont penetrate those. Get a budding tape or parafilm.
@Okorokanze2000 thanks for your input I'll keep a close eye on it. Stay tuned GEM avocado tree giveaway coming soon. ✌️🥑

My avocado has browning leaf. What could be happening? I live in Watsonville

Grafting has been around longer than buddy tape. Buddy tape is expensive and not easy to find. I’ve never used it and haven’t had any issues:
