What a classy and well spoken man! He did not a single word written down during the speech and he spoke from the heart and did not miss anything! What a guy!
nick lidstrom really is the perfect human being, hockey player. ironically after 20 seasons and retiring, the guy was still good. thank you nick for all your years of hard work with the red wings!
I know Orr is considered the best but to me he was a 4th forward out there, this guy would lock down your number one line, he is the best defenseman ever.
Rangers fan here. I'm going to say with full confidence that Nikki Lidstrom is the 2nd best defenseman in NHL history. He's the All-Time, All-NHL 1st pairing defenseman. Yup. #4 from Boston and #5 from Detroit. As a Russian born, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the Red Wings. You know because of the Russian Five, especially guys like Konstantinov, Fetisov, Larionov... the other 2 were good too, but these I cherish
Dude was all that. He wasn't Orr, nor Coffey, but he sure left a lot of teams over the years saying in the locker room after a loss 'If only we could've converted that 2-on-1'... 8>D
In the 1989 NHL entry draft, the Detroit Red Wings drafted #53 overall Nicklas Lidström in the third round. Today that would be a second round pick, which is highway robbery. Man played 20 seasons and made the playoffs in 20 seasons. He recognized the Joe Louis Arena staff in his retirement speech, that is a great thing to recognize those who normally get minimal recognition.
I think it was number 15 Dmitri Mironov who shot. I remember the sequence clearly and it was 100% a right side shooter whereas Lidström is a left side shooter
"I made the mistake of asking to wear #9" too funny Nick made his number 5 its own legend. No one will get to wear that one either.
John Manor Well said.
An absolute class act and unbelievably great NHL player. One of the very best.

Didn't Lidstrom almost kill Pronger with a slap shot?
Yes. Hit him right in the heart with a hard slapper. It's called Commotio Cordis. It has over a 60% fatality rate.
Bob Meyer I remember watching that game as a Wings fan. Think it was Weekend game. Prongers eyes rolled bk in his head. Scary
I think it was number 15 Dmitri Mironov who shot. I remember the sequence clearly and it was 100% a right side shooter whereas Lidström is a left side shooter
Thought that was feds that shot that one ?
Gordie Howe was "Mr Hockey" And Lidström is Mr Perfect.
Classic Swede
Lidstrom > Bobby Orr
