bad boys being #1 is probably the lousiest attempt at an undisclosed ad I've ever seen, the really weird tonal shift, the fact that a new movie JUST came out... yeah right dude go off
I’m glad they shifted back to a more original style with the top 10s…but it’s disheartening to see a corporate owner forcing cinefix to compromise their art into a a top 9 + ad rather than a top 10.
That was my first thought when I clicked the video, but I was hoping I was wrong. When I saw Bad Boys hadn't even been mentioned 7 entries in, I knew. Same reason Will Smith was on Hot Ones. Extreme PR moves and IGN is a cheap pro.
Came to the comments to say IGN had deatroyed the good name of Cinefix by doing obviously ad placements like this but beaten to it. Glad everyone is thinking the same. Slip Bad Boys in at like 5 and it will still be a good reminder. Put an actual ad spot in the video. But to drop it at number one is so on the nose.
This was an awesome movie count down. And I’ve only watched half of them! Thank you for these recommendations! Some body ought to be paying you to do this! AWESOME WORK AND COMMENTARY!!!!
Agreed. Lethal Weapon is the perfect example of this really stupid genre. In fact simply having cops who are buddies doesn’t mean it’s a buddy cop movie. It has to be super cheesy and awful like lethal weapon. Like End of Watch and Seven are actually good movies so they’re not buddy cop movies
the thing I love about your top lists is that there are always a few movies I have never seen. your synopsis ends up piquing my interest and then I go watch them (well not all of them, at least one from each of these videos). thanks for posting consistently good, well made content.
Gene Hackman in Enemy of the State is Harry Call from the Conversation operating under an assumed name, so I guess that means he’s a surveillance expert.
I remember when I saw Enemy of the State and not being able to believe that no one really seemed to be talking about how it was the same character. I probably just didn't find the right articles or whatever but I felt like I was going a little crazy.
Great video! A title which can be an honourable mention is "Tiempo de Valientes" or "On Probation", a 2005 Argentinian film about a hard cop and his psycologist. It's really amazing. Congrats on another great top 10 movie list.
Thanks for showing FREEBIE AND THE BEAN some love. I saw it as a kid when it aired on cable, and it was a lot funnier than it had any right to be. James Caan never did enough comedies, and he should have, his timing was perfect.
Just thought of another one: Jack Sholder’s “The Hidden” (1987) with Kyle MacLachlan and Michael Nouri. Very much a buddy cop film with some sci-fi thrown in for good measure.
01. Lethal Weapon 02. Die Hard with a Vengeance 03. Beverly Hills Cop 04. Bad Boys 05. The Hard Way 06. 48 Hours 07. Running Scared 08. Red Heat 09. Rush Hour 10. Tango & Cash
I agree with most of the choices on this list, especially the number 1 choice. Major props for showing love to Last Action Hero! As always with your lists I learn about a few films I had never seen. Will have to check out Pure Luck and Freebie and the Bean as I’ve never even heard of them.
Running Scared should have deserved at least a clip! And F/X would have made an interesting choice, too. The 'buddies' don't meet, or even realize they're working together, until nearly the end of the movie.
OK, I like Bad Boys just fine, but it deserves the #10 spot and Lethal Weapon series #1. Die Hard barely being mentioned is also a misstep, especially when the entire movie is a buddy cop movie presented in a unique way.
@@ProudPapaJD I'm also curious as to why the honourable mentions are missing The Heat a 2013 buddy cop movie starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy.
Putting Hot Fuzz in the love story slot on this list is how I know the list was made by a true gentleman and a scholar. It is, indeed, a love story for the ages.
The real #1 (without the blatant advertisement) should be Hot Fuzz · They're clear opposites · They learn from each other in natural ways · Real bromance · Great at investigating together · Insanely good movie
Counter argument: Hollywood Homicide, it has a classic element of the genre that Hot Fuzz is missing, Harrison Ford is supposed to retire in that movie, so it adds tension between him and Josh Hartnet, and it adds tension for the audience because the movie could kill the retiring cop, because that happens all the time
Much appreciated for the nod to "Zootopia" as I don't think it's often brought up how it does fit the mold of Neo-Noir and Buddy-Cop because it's a product tailored to families, and Nick and Judy have an underrated sense of interplay that allows both of them to regularly surprise one another with what they know. That is some out of the box thinking right there. Also, tsk tsk on no mentions of "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang", "The Nice Guys" or "Dragged Across Concrete" in some manner.
Hands down Lethal Weapon is the best one and underrated without that movie there is no Rush hour or bad boys and those two are always talked about. It’s has a good start and nice ending to the Franchise! All movies good and balance the dark elements, comedy, action, drama, sadness, realistic, in one Package. Side characters also feels important around Riggs and Murtagh and gets almost as much screen time
Man I thought about Last Action Hero, but I was like the kid isn't a cop. Then when I saw Cop and a Half come up!!!! I had forgotten all about Cop and a half. Both movies are great. The only thing I had against Last Action Hero, it felt like it took forever for him to get into the movie.
Here's a kinda funny story about Bad Boys II from the premiere of Hot Fuzz according to the commentary which I think you can still listen to on RUclips for free but there's no footage of the actual movie just the commentary. Directors Quentin Tarantino and Edgar Wright have been friends for years so at one of the premieres for Hot Fuzz (I'm not sure if it was the US release or the UK release) they set up a table to give out free copies of two the movies you mentioned here. The honourable mention of Point Break which as the narrator said almost made the list and Bad Boys II, despite being free they couldn't give away a single copy of Bad Boys II, while I have no problem with it (it's a dumb movie but still enjoyable) it surprised me that no one wanted a free movie that was a big hit when it came out.
You liked Pure Luck, you'll adore La Chèvre. Nobody come close to Pierre Richard on this type of characters. And actually "pierre richardesque" is an unofficial adjective in France to describe someone with with 0 luck.
Ebert and Siskel did an episode about movie cliches and mentioned one in buddy-cop movies: the cops will get along badly at first and go to their captain and ask to be reassigned, but the captain will say no. (They showed such a scene in LETHAL WEAPON.) If he said yes, of course, the movie would be over!
Very pleased to see Freebie and the Bean. It was the first film I thought of when I saw the title of this vid. No mention of Alien Nation (unless I missed it) was disappointing though. Perhaps two James Caan movies was a bit much to hope for ;)
I'm a little bummed out there wasn't even a mention of Running Scared in this at all. It's still my favorite of the Buddy Cop genre, especially the 80s era
Hi Cinefex! Thanks for the great videos. You could have mentioned that Pure Luck is a remake of the much better french movie La chèvre (Knock on wood, 1981) directed by Francis Veber with Gérard Depardieu (-> Danny Glover) and Pierre Richard (-> Martin Short). It was a big success here in France :)
This video was just 28 minutes commercial for bad boys4.😂😂
Entirely agree. I was gonna comment that and went 'they already said it.'
If bad boys is #1 with a movie coming out soon, it must be paid promotion
I was so sure #2 was ramping up to The Nice Guys.
You and me both!
Same. Not even a brief mention either.

A real bitchy stage slap.
A few others worth mentioning: John Woo’s “The Killer,” Shane Black’s “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,” and Amir Shervan’s “Samurai Cop.”
They didn't mention "The Killer" by name but the two guns slow motion scene at the end is clearly a reference.
Kiss kiss bang bang and nice guys not even getting a mention is criminal kind sir!
and L.A. Confidential and Cop Land...something bad is happening with CineFix 🤔
No Men in Black or Rush Hour on this list is a crime

I don't know how I've never heard of Freebie And The Bean, but now I want to check it out.

End of Watch is too good to be considered a buddy cop movie.

Oh man! So happy you put Bad Boys there: you just made my day ❤

No L.A. Confidential??? Buddies at the end!
Not mentioning L.A. Confidential and Cop Land in buddy cop category is one of CineFix greatest letdowns, oversights or even disgraces.
It's a thinly veiled add. New Bad Boys movie coming out... Magically #1.
I was literally planning my comment about leaving Bad Boys off the list. Well played, sir
01. Lethal Weapon
02. Die Hard with a Vengeance
03. Beverly Hills Cop
04. Bad Boys
05. The Hard Way
06. 48 Hours
07. Running Scared
08. Red Heat
09. Rush Hour
10. Tango & Cash
Memories of Murder is a great pick, but calling Bong "Joon-ho" is like calling Spielberg "Steven." Joon-ho is his given name, Bong is his family name.
Both 'The Other Guys', 'The Nice Guys' at least deserve an honorable mention.
You've missed: See No Evil, Hear No Evil!

"The other guys" has become a annual watch for me and should have had at least a mention.
