There are practices where you require to repeat only the sound ‘aa’ or ‘aa’, ‘oo’ and ‘mm’ separately, each vibrating from the different area on the body. I agree that in literature, it’s always been ‘om’ and not ‘aum’.

First, Sadhguru never said that death by accident is the victim's fault. I have read the death book written by Sadhguru 2 times, cover to cover, and haven't found any single statement saying that. Neither have I heard him say this in any video on youtube. so I don't know where the questioner heard this. Second, Sadhguru doesn't say that yoga is not hindu. He says that yoga "predates" religion, which means that the science of yoga originated at a time when there was no religion. And when he says that yoga is not hindu, he says it in the context that it applies to all people of all religions and not just hindus. Third, for the first time, i feel that Mr. Sanjay dixit is not as perceptive as i thought, especially when he confessed that he practices Shambhavi mahamudra daily. this is a very shallow discussion with many assumed theories about Sadhguru. But i guess i should not be surprised, because this has been the fate of every enlightened being ever born, be it Ramakrishna paramhansa, Swami vivekananda, Adi shankaracharya, even lord krishna himself. the so called learned pandits in those times were the people who opposed them the most. So it has been the history of humanity. It takes a different level of either maturity or sharanagati to recognise and make use of such beings to get to the ultimate goal of moksha.
The word Hindu may be 500/600 years old but Sanathana Dharma existed thousands of years before the coined word Hindu. And Yoga is certainly contribution of Sanathana Dharma to the World but it can be practised by Non Hindus also and it doesn't mean it's not Hindu. The knowledge of Sanskrit is desirable to understand the whole ambit of Yoga.

I am not a Sanskrit expert; but I have attended Sadhguruji's classes in TN and have a basic operational understanding of Sanskrit. He is not doing a linguistic "sandhi" of Aa, Oo and Ma. He is asking you to just make that sound and see for yourself how it sounds. Now, if you want to write it down in a language, obviously you will need to do a sandhi per the rules of the Sanskrit language and write it down as Om. The rules of grammar apply to language, not to sounds which follow the rules of vibrations (physics I guess).
You should say the three sounds AAAAAA UUUUUU and MMMMMM each for a few seconds. That is AUM CHANTING. Mandukya Upanishad explains the significance of the three sounds, AAA UUU and MMM.

अ+उ in Sandhi becomes ओ. for words. i agree. But if the only sounds are अ and उ, is it not okay to sound them separately? Also Sadhguru never asked u to utter अ and उ, sounds separately. he asked one to sound them in a continuous flow of succession. By starting with आ sound, one's energies from Manipuraka activated also, which is an important chakra. That is where Vishnu is.
Well said. The solution to the problem in this video is to understand that we are not supposed to combine AAA and UUU into O while chanting AUM. We are supposed to chant AAAAAA for a few seconds, then UUUUUU for a few seconds and finally MMMMMM for a few seconds. Each sound blending into the other when we gradually close our mouth.
What is this nonsense? Sadhguru has said to feel the vibrations in various points of ones body while chanting Aaaa, Uuuuu and Mmmm. Respected Sanjay ji, Sadhguru ji and Osho ji are both coming from inner experience first, learning second, and they both experienced OM should as AUM, and preach the same. If you pronounce Aum, the vibrations move from bottom of belly to nose/head; Please note that in this culture, we give more importance to inner experience than religious texts. I had been pronuncing OM as OM and AUM since my childhood but since I have started pricticing the practices given by Sadhguru for couple of years now I can clearly feel the difference between OM and AUM when you chant it and I don't really care how you pronunce it in day to day use. You can experiment it youself and see the area where you feel the vibration in both the pronunciation. I have been following Jaipur Dialogues for quite some time and I like his stance for our nation but I completely feel that he is picking on Sadhguru for no reason. As he mentioned that he has done Inner Engineering 2 times but I think once is more than enough to make you experience what it really is if you go with some openness rather than scepticism. I am not commenting because I am defending Sadhguru but because he has not only explained complex things in simple to us but also has given us the experience of there are things beyond our current understanding and perception. I think once you experience you might get a better idea that it doesn't matter if it's OM or AUM but how you fell and how you are after chanting it.

I have also following Sanjay Dixit ji, but he some times very biased. I would trust Sadhguru more because i have seen not one but many people experiencing deep state of meditation including me coue of times and wife experiencing more frequently. People who has deeper experience should be authority on spritual matters than those who simply read it. Even his take on pathan movie was stupid. Before defending Sadguru, you should know more about Sadguru and some of the controversies surrounding him. Not all the controversies are conspiracies. Do you know why Sadguru did not inform his father-in-law about the death or Samadhi of his wife and hurriedly burnt her body as part of Antim Sanskaar. His father-in-law filed a case and the FIR is pending for decades. Perhaps, his wife was a great soul and did not approve of some of the actions of Sadguru inside the Ashram. I believe that a few Buddhist Monks have declared date & time of their Samadhi and I have watched a video of one such Samadhi and Doctors have tested before & after the Samadhi. Not sure, whether Sadguru's wife had also reached that advanced stage which Sadguru could not reach. IT is possible. But, Sadguru had not come clean of that controversy surrounding his wife's death or Samadhi. Think twice before defending anyone.

I'm talking pure experience of the presence that he is. In fact, I will say that the 'secular' way he talks about things is what first made him acceptable to my logical mind. I was left groomed, got into meditation coz of sadhguru. Aum is about the vibration. It's OM but when you enunciate it with deep breath then you will see how aum benefit. Again it's vibration. I do get your point about political angle but we should encourage such people who perform light introduction to Sanatan culture. India can only be a super power when people around the world see it \feel it\admire it for something beyond. Our Sanskriti has it all that every should will eventually seek in this high anxiety \competitive\materialistic environment. But please keep raising your points, it good for people to know that not to follow anyone blindly.
Its not about combining the 3 letters as we do in grammar. Its about making all these 3 sounds separately and when you do that you slowly close your mouth by uttering the sounds Aaaaaaoooooooommmmmm. There is some misunderstanding here......Sadhguru emphasizes on being conscious on the area of body from where the sound originates while chanting AUM....If you hear it properly while it is actually being chanted....it in fact sounds as Om for someone who is listening.
This is what I feel given my limited understanding🙏 If you say Pa or Ma, only the initial release portion of the sound is different, but it can't be sustained. Essentially these become 'Aa' if you chant it for more than few moments. I think we can't continuously chant 'Pa' or 'Ma' coz they'll anyway become the same 'Aa'. Also 'Diwali' and 'Ramzan' are words, created by humans and attaching some meanings. But AUM(it's not AAM) doesn't have a meaning attached, and the fact that similar sounds 'AMEN' & 'AAMEEN' were discovered across the world suggests this sound AUM should be pretty close to the truth. Moreover, with simple practice, it's clearly noticeable how vibrations in the body are different for AA, UU and MM. So saying AUM instead of OM also make sense experientially. Also when you say that it's pre-decided and then trying to explain, and not arrived upon based on logic - isn't that true for everything? All these laws that we study, aren't they just an explanation to what is already existing so that we can make some sense of it(and use it for our benefit)? Also even human logic can be improved upon, and whatever that's sensible to us now, may not stay that way some time later and vice versa. So let's not discard something totally just because today we don't understand it. Thanks for reading🙏
In AUM chanting, we are supposed to say AAAAAA for a few seconds, then UUUUUU for a few seconds and finally MMMMMM for a few seconds. We are not combining sounds here, so Sanskrit SANDHI rules are not applicable.
Sanjay ji🙏….I think I can say something on this because I have gone through Inner engineering. He explains that 🕉️ is rhe root thing and rest other religions have made to show as something different but its all the same. He is not saying that all religions are same. Nothing like that ever. Rather he says that all religions are just belief system but the Sanatan dharma is only for realisation and truth.
When you utter Aaa and Uuu together, it will generally turn 'Oo' And AA, UU, MM these three sounds vibrate in different parts of body. People who have practiced that will only understand it. Literary knowledge will do no help !

Actually Aam is also a mantra different from om. Every mantra has 5 siblings. For ex: Aam, eem, om, aim, aum, ah. Kaam, keem, koom, kaim, kaum, kah. Kraam, kreem, kroom, kraim, kraum, krah. Kraam used for bhairav, kreem for kali.

I liked SadGuru at first, but after watching few of his session it because obvious he is another Marketing Guru. Lost interest and don't follow him any more.
AUM chanting is taught FREE of cost EVERYDAY at 11.30 am at Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Video of Sadhguru is played in English Tamil and probably Hindi also. Isha volunteers will be present to clear your doubts in English Tamil and probably Hindi and other languages. Chanting AUM for 15 minutes every day solves psychological problems and results in spiritual progress. AAA is Vishnu and Lakshmi. UUU is Brahma and Saraswathi. MMM is Siva and Parvathi. By chanting AUM, you are invoking all the Gods. The silence between two AUMs is PARABRAHMA.

I don’t think Sadhguru is trying to secularize OM or AUM. He has explained why “A” “U” “M” has to be emphasized. If you don’t agree with his explanation that’s fine, but don’t claim he is doing conspiracy against Om.

He said he did IE program 2 times but looks like he forgot what Sadhguru said and also his own experience of vibrations in his body when he chanted AA UU MM separately. The impact is different in terms of vibrations when OM and AUM are chanted. It's time for people like Sanjay Dixit to do some practicals instead of just stucking to theory

Mr Mishra ji is also saying- Yoga means- union with your atma. Question I have is - only Hindus have atma? He is contradicting himself. Newton’s law was described by Newton- does not mean that phenomena was his . It was already existing. So is Yoga.
Apologies but not sure which video you are referring where Sadhguru calls it "Aam (mango sounding)". Just like you I have been listening to Sadhguru for over 6 years now and have not come across any teaching where he says so. His teaching is that Om needs pronounced roughly as "AAA from the naval", "OOOO from the chest" and "MMM from the mouth roof". As you cycle this multiple times you activate energy chackra from bottom to up the head. He has never asked you to say Om in any particular way but for his Inner Engineering practice, this is the way it needs cycled. If you extend this further, when scientist say the Universe makes Om sound, this is the reason, since Om is the three fundamental sounds. Would be great help if you could have shown or posted the complete video referred at 2:00.

He doesn't say Aam he emphasises on saying all the sounds in aum as in a oo and mm and explains that each of these has a connection with the trinity. In yoga this has a lot of significance as the breath comes from different parts of the body as in stomach chest and throat depending on part of each sound. Lets not distort facts here and also let's not misrepresent facts based on partial/ absence of full knowledge of what the other person has said.
Let's clear about this that some boundaries have been made by our ancestors for distinguish between sanatan dharma & others to safeguard our identity as well as our scriptures. Sadhguru never said that Yoga not hindu. He said Yoga no more only belongs to lndia, it has gifted from India to whole world and so now it more belongs only to Hindu. Very good discussion between two sanskrit vidhwan. I am follower of JD and Sadhguru. I too had queried Sadhguru connecting AUM and AMEEN. He may be trying to attract larger world to Sanatan dharma rather than to him. He has been largely making clear distinction between Sanatan dharma as seeker tradition and Believer religion as blind believers. I think he might be deliberately creating small and subtle controversies which are not fundamental harmful to promoting Sanatan dharma yet awakening believer ignorant tradition to experience AUM and associated Sanatan dharma practices and gyan. Once they experience the spiritual energy they are on the Sanatan path of enlightenment. I think Sadhguru effort may have made some dent too in believer tradition, hence England and Australia now 56% and 38% have left the believer religion. As far as understanding deep insight of ॐ and 卐 is concerned vast majority of Hindus are also ignorant and only believe it rather than practice.

Why don't you chant Om just 2 sounds OO and MM for a few weeks and AA-OO-MM for a few weeks and see the difference by yourself? Reason: I as well as other people in this comment section are mostly talking about what we have experienced and felt the difference. By the way, I learn the difference before Sadhguru in a CD by Baba Ramdev in 2005/07 where he explained the difference and mentioned that to get meditative benefits the best way to pronounce is each word for 3 seconds, AA-OO and MM.

First, Sadhguru never said that death by accident is the victim's fault. I have read the death book written by Sadhguru 2 times, cover to cover, and haven't found any single statement saying that. Neither have I heard him say this in any video on youtube. so I don't know where the questioner heard this.
Second, Sadhguru doesn't say that yoga is not hindu. He says that yoga "predates" religion, which means that the science of yoga originated at a time when there was no religion. And when he says that yoga is not hindu, he says it in the context that it applies to all people of all religions and not just hindus.
Third, for the first time, i feel that Mr. Sanjay dixit is not as perceptive as i thought, especially when he confessed that he practices Shambhavi mahamudra daily. this is a very shallow discussion with many assumed theories about Sadhguru.
But i guess i should not be surprised, because this has been the fate of every enlightened being ever born, be it Ramakrishna paramhansa, Swami vivekananda, Adi shankaracharya, even lord krishna himself. the so called learned pandits in those times were the people who opposed them the most. So it has been the history of humanity. It takes a different level of either maturity or sharanagati to recognise and make use of such beings to get to the ultimate goal of moksha.

The word Hindu may be 500/600 years old but Sanathana Dharma existed thousands of years before the coined word Hindu. And Yoga is certainly contribution of Sanathana Dharma to the World but it can be practised by Non Hindus also and it doesn't mean it's not Hindu.
The knowledge of Sanskrit is desirable to understand the whole ambit of Yoga.

I am not a Sanskrit expert; but I have attended Sadhguruji's classes in TN and have a basic operational understanding of Sanskrit. He is not doing a linguistic "sandhi" of Aa, Oo and Ma. He is asking you to just make that sound and see for yourself how it sounds. Now, if you want to write it down in a language, obviously you will need to do a sandhi per the rules of the Sanskrit language and write it down as Om. The rules of grammar apply to language, not to sounds which follow the rules of vibrations (physics I guess).

Every Hatha Yoga teacher teaches ॐ to be pronounced as A U M separately involving the three Chakras of our energy system and not just Sadhguru. Even Yogananda Paramahansa has said the same. Sadhguru has brought Hindu culture to the Youth of this nation. He deserves respect and not criticism.

अ+उ in Sandhi becomes ओ. for words. i agree. But if the only sounds are अ and उ, is it not okay to sound them separately? Also Sadhguru never asked u to utter अ and उ, sounds separately. he asked one to sound them in a continuous flow of succession. By starting with आ sound, one's energies from Manipuraka activated also, which is an important chakra. That is where Vishnu is.
Well said. The solution to the problem in this video is to understand that we are not supposed to combine AAA and UUU into O while chanting AUM. We are supposed to chant AAAAAA for a few seconds, then UUUUUU for a few seconds and finally MMMMMM for a few seconds. Each sound blending into the other when we gradually close our mouth.

Sadhguru's inner engineering technique has been a life changing experience for many like myself...i m not yoga expert but. What sadhguru says is The only reason for breaking the sounds of aum is to activate the energy points at three different levels...
I had been pronuncing OM as OM and AUM since my childhood but since I have started pricticing the practices given by Sadhguru for couple of years now I can clearly feel the difference between OM and AUM when you chant it and I don't really care how you pronunce it in day to day use. You can experiment it youself and see the area where you feel the vibration in both the pronunciation.
I have been following Jaipur Dialogues for quite some time and I like his stance for our nation but I completely feel that he is picking on Sadhguru for no reason. As he mentioned that he has done Inner Engineering 2 times but I think once is more than enough to make you experience what it really is if you go with some openness rather than scepticism. I am not commenting because I am defending Sadhguru but because he has not only explained complex things in simple to us but also has given us the experience of there are things beyond our current understanding and perception. I think once you experience you might get a better idea that it doesn't matter if it's OM or AUM but how you fell and how you are after chanting it.

I have also following Sanjay Dixit ji, but he some times very biased. I would trust Sadhguru more because i have seen not one but many people experiencing deep state of meditation including me coue of times and wife experiencing more frequently. People who has deeper experience should be authority on spritual matters than those who simply read it. Even his take on pathan movie was stupid. Before defending Sadguru, you should know more about Sadguru and some of the controversies surrounding him. Not all the controversies are conspiracies. Do you know why Sadguru did not inform his father-in-law about the death or Samadhi of his wife and hurriedly burnt her body as part of Antim Sanskaar. His father-in-law filed a case and the FIR is pending for decades. Perhaps, his wife was a great soul and did not approve of some of the actions of Sadguru inside the Ashram. I believe that a few Buddhist Monks have declared date & time of their Samadhi and I have watched a video of one such Samadhi and Doctors have tested before & after the Samadhi. Not sure, whether Sadguru's wife had also reached that advanced stage which Sadguru could not reach. IT is possible. But, Sadguru had not come clean of that controversy surrounding his wife's death or Samadhi. Think twice before defending anyone.

If you have ever experienced an ounce of Sadhguru, there will be no confusion. I don't mean listening and trying to understand what he's saying. I'm talking pure experience of the presence that he is.
In fact, I will say that the 'secular' way he talks about things is what first made him acceptable to my logical mind. What then happens is that bit by bit, one accepts pieces of Dharma and realises the sheer magnitude of Bharat. It's merely method of dissemination Sadhguru is employing. And it works.

I was left groomed, got into meditation coz of sadhguru. Aum is about the vibration. It's OM but when you enunciate it with deep breath then you will see how aum benefit. Again it's vibration. I do get your point about political angle but we should encourage such people who perform light introduction to Sanatan culture. India can only be a super power when people around the world see it \feel it\admire it for something beyond. Our Sanskriti has it all that every should will eventually seek in this high anxiety \competitive\materialistic environment. There is some misunderstanding here......Sadhguru emphasizes on being conscious on the area of body from where the sound originates while chanting AUM....If you hear it properly while it is actually being chanted....it in fact sounds as Om for someone who is listening.

This is what I feel given my limited understanding🙏
If you say Pa or Ma, only the initial release portion of the sound is different, but it can't be sustained. Essentially these become 'Aa' if you chant it for more than few moments.
I think we can't continuously chant 'Pa' or 'Ma' coz they'll anyway become the same 'Aa'.
Also 'Diwali' and 'Ramzan' are words, created by humans and attaching some meanings.
But AUM(it's not AAM) doesn't have a meaning attached, and the fact that similar sounds 'AMEN' & 'AAMEEN' were discovered across the world suggests this sound AUM should be pretty close to the truth.
Moreover, with simple practice, it's clearly noticeable how vibrations in the body are different for AA, UU and MM. So saying AUM instead of OM also make sense experientially.
Also when you say that it's pre-decided and then trying to explain, and not arrived upon based on logic - isn't that true for everything?
All these laws that we study, aren't they just an explanation to what is already existing so that we can make some sense of it(and use it for our benefit)?
Also even human logic can be improved upon, and whatever that's sensible to us now, may not stay that way some time later and vice versa.
So let's not discard something totally just because today we don't understand it.

In AUM chanting, we are supposed to say AAAAAA for a few seconds, then UUUUUU for a few seconds and finally MMMMMM for a few seconds. We are not combining sounds here, so Sanskrit SANDHI rules are not applicable.
Sanjay ji🙏….I think I can say something on this because I have gone through Inner engineering. He explains that 🕉️ is rhe root thing and rest other religions have made to show as something different but its all the same. He is not saying that all religions are same. Nothing like that ever. Rather he says that all religions are just belief system but the Sanatan dharma is only for realisation and truth.
When you utter Aaa and Uuu together, it will generally turn 'Oo'
And AA, UU, MM these three sounds vibrate in different parts of body.
People who have practiced that will only understand it. Literary knowledge will do no help !

Actually Aam is also a mantra different from om. Every mantra has 5 siblings. For ex: Aam, eem, om, aim, aum, ah.
Kaam, keem, koom, kaim, kaum, kah.
Kraam, kreem, kroom, kraim, kraum, krah.
Kraam used for bhairav, kreem for kali.

AUM chanting is taught FREE of cost EVERYDAY at 11.30 am at Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Video of Sadhguru is played in English Tamil and probably Hindi also. Isha volunteers will be present to clear your doubts in English Tamil and probably Hindi and other languages. Chanting AUM for 15 minutes every day solves psychological problems and results in spiritual progress. AAA is Vishnu and Lakshmi. UUU is Brahma and Saraswathi. MMM is Siva and Parvathi. By chanting AUM, you are invoking all the Gods. The silence between two AUMs is PARABRAHMA.

His teaching is that Om needs pronounced roughly as "AAA from the naval", "OOOO from the chest" and "MMM from the mouth roof". As you cycle this multiple times you activate energy chackra from bottom to up the head. He has never asked you to say Om in any particular way but for his Inner Engineering practice, this is the way it needs cycled. If you extend this further, when scientist say the Universe makes Om sound, this is the reason, since Om is the three fundamental sounds. Would be great help if you could have shown or posted the complete video referred at 2:00.

Don't worry Raghavendra ji, Dixit ji or Misra ji ye samaz nahi rahe ki, hum sadhguru ko sanskrit vyakaran ke liye nahi suante. Inner Engineering, Karma, Mind is your business, ye kitabe padhkar aapka jiwan badal sakte hain, "Om Mala" padhke sirf NRI pandit ji ka ahamkar prakash hoga aur kach nahi.
While chanting Aum, I start Aaaa…. And I feel vibrations in my Manipuraka, then I move to Ooooo….. and I feel vibrations in Anhata…..and finally Mmmmmm…. And I feelmy Vishudhi. You are making fun of Kriya which is living experience of many by calling it Aaam. What a pity.
He doesn't say Aam he emphasises on saying all the sounds in aum as in a oo and mm and explains that each of these has a connection with the trinity. In yoga this has a lot of significance as the breath comes from different parts of the body as in stomach chest and throat depending on part of each sound. Lets not distort facts here and also let's not misrepresent facts based on partial/ absence of full knowledge of what the other person has said.

Let's clear about this that some boundaries have been made by our ancestors for distinguish between sanatan dharma & others to safeguard our identity as well as our scriptures. Sadguru is destroying this boundary. IT'S OKEY TO SAY THAT PRAKRUTI HAS NO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN ALL JIVS OR ISHWAR IS SAME IN ALL JIVS. BUT YOU CAN'T STAY IN THE JUNGLE WITH LIONS & TIGERS. Sadhguru never said that Yoga not hindu. He said Yoga no more only belongs to lndia, it has gifted from India to whole world and so now it more belongs only to Hindu. He wanted everyone to accept Yoga. Yoga is science, it may not be right to say yoga only belongs to Hindu as Gravity does not belong only to christian. Its for everyone.

Its to create feeling of belonging for other religions also, science can not just belong to one religion. Other religions people think Yoga is just hindu so many might avoid it and spoil their lives by getting into drinks, smoke, drugs and other addiction instead of using Tools of Yoga to explore truth of life. And that much sacrifice has to be done for others well-being.
And Sadhguru never said now yoga is going to be detached from its Sanatan root. He said now Yoga is gifted to world by Sanatan, its does not belong just to one religion. This statement of Sadhguru is only going to Increase the reach of Yoga in this world

Very good discussion between two sanskrit vidhwan. I am follower of JD and Sadhguru. I too had queried Sadhguru connecting AUM and AMEEN. He may be trying to attract larger world to Sanatan dharma rather than to him. He has been largely making clear distinction between Sanatan dharma as seeker tradition and Believer religion as blind believers. I think he might be deliberately creating small and subtle controversies which are not fundamental harmful to promoting Sanatan dharma yet awakening believer ignorant tradition to experience AUM and associated Sanatan dharma practices and gyan. Once they experience the spiritual energy they are on the Sanatan path of enlightenment. I think Sadhguru effort may have made some dent too in believer tradition, hence England and Australia now 56% and 38% have left the believer religion. As far as understanding deep insight of ॐ and 卐 is concerned vast majority of Hindus are also ignorant and only believe it rather than practice.
Then why does satguru not lecture in hindi but a gulami language
in Kaliyuga people just cant come to terms with each other. hence proved! chant and rise folks.. don't use your intellect too much.

Why don't you chant Om just 2 sounds OO and MM for a few weeks and AA-OO-MM for a few weeks and see the difference by yourself? Reason: I as well as other people in this comment section are mostly talking about what we have experienced and felt the difference. By the way, I learn the difference before Sadhguru in a CD by Baba Ramdev in 2005/07 where he explained the difference and mentioned that to get meditative benefits the best way to pronounce is each word for 3 seconds, AA-OO and MM.
