- There are fears the Israel-Hamas war may also trigger a conflict between Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Israel.
Sky News joined a band of UN Irish peacekeepers, who describe a “game of chess” between the two sides as they exchange fire along Lebanon’s southern border.

The Irish peacekeepers should be commended for their bravery in such difficult circumstances. They have a long history of brave actions whilst on UN duties including the siege of Jadotville in the Congo
I hope Irish peacekeepers keep safe
As long as they're still in Lebanon and thier government still opposed Israel they're not safe. UN have failure to hold Israel military accountable when they're killed blatantly peacekeepers before I doubt that they would be able to prevent anything if IDF decided to strike again.
Not anymore. They fight for Palestine.
God protect the irish troops 🇮🇪
God protect Palestine 🇵🇸
God protect lebanon 🇱🇧

Stay Safe Lads 🇮🇪
UN peace keeping troops has the right to defend themselves.
Blue helmets need to stay out of the way, let them fight.
They can return fire if attacked, UNIFIL is a peace keeping force which is different from peace enforcement.
The Irish as UN troops have been in Lebanon before; a number of years prior to this recent action and they did wonderful work for the people.
We have been in Lebanon for 40 years
580 Irish are deployed now will have a increase of 300.
Over 40 thousand Irish have served in the Lebanon
Godbless these Irish troops.❤

Proud of my compatriots. 🇮🇪
Such dedication from a Neutral Country. Huge Respect ✊💚
“Neutral” lmao good one
Neutral as in non-committal. If Ireland was capable of defending itself, it would be another matter.
@@Matt67012well we are a MILITARILY neutral country and will continue to be one.
@@Matt67012 whats your definition of neutral?
@@peabasethe overwhelming majority of us Irish are very committed to our neutrality. In fact, we're proud of it.
A powerful man with powerful weapons, that acts peaceful is a good role model to others. is THAT what a peacekeeper is?
Failed to mention 100k israeli civilians were also evacuated
Yes this is shy news same as BBC biased reporting and our government Irish that is spending millions off euros for a complete waste off taxpayers money get out and come back to Ireland and get on the streets off our cities and keep the peace
What exactly does a peacekeeper do?
Being a sandwich
Nothing essentially. The Irish contigent are pretty adept at moving whiskey across the border though. 😂
they practice the art of peace
perform clowns 🤡🤡🤡
Nothing, whether they exist or not, doesn't make any difference. But the UN need them for namesake otherwise who will fund
Swedish and others are in Lebanon serving with UN there
This is the Irish base.
We work with mostly polish Swedish and some danes.
The fins would be close to us we both have lost a good few soldiers to radicals and isrealis
We have the longest and largest deployment soon to be reinforced with another battalion over 40 thousand Irish have done a tour here
50 years ago I was in Kinneret on a work related visit. I stayed in the town and listened to shell firing up near the Lebanese border every night. I met some Canadian UN peacekeepers who were there to keep the peace. It looks like token UN presence doing sweet Fanny adams for 50 years.
UN 1701 resolution: DMZ behind the litani river.
Reality: Hezbollah near the border of Israel.
Failure of UN.
Peacekeepers cant enforce peace. So what exactly they do? 😂😂😂
they are clowns 🤡🤡🤡
They collaborate with Hezbollah
observe & Report
There’s peace keeping and peace enforcement Lebanon is peace keeping basically means that the UN soldiers have zero powers. When I was in Africa peace enforcing with different countries the Ghanaian UN soldiers would enforce the peace by whipping the locals with sticks as there rifles are slung behind there Backs😅 hope I gave u a little help to understand the difference between peace keeping and peace enforcement.
Monitor assist and support, as was mentioned.
The Lebanese have the right to defend themselves.
They asked us to be there
Lebanon and the Hezbollah -- a state within a state -- are two different things.
They fired first
@@peabase Israel has been harming Lebanon before Hezbollah. Dont change the narrative.
yes defense.
Sickening coverage - the question is why were rockets flying in from Lebanon.
Why is the coverage focused on Arabs leaving the area when thousands of Jews have also left the North of Israel
BIAS
So proud to be from Ireland
just like they did in Africa and any other country they go to
UN IS USELESS ✖️
"from both sides" not a single word about Hizbollah violating UN resolution 1701, Sky News never fail to disappoint, journalism at its worst
The Israelis don't even follow the UN
Israel is violating whole UN & Amnesty international by occupying other people's land!
Hahahahha So your saying its not both sides?
@@hyperbeast134The Israeli didn't wake up one morning and decided to start firing into Lebanon. By the way Lebanon was a beautiful peaceful civilised country until they allowed millions of Palestinians. Now look at what has happened.
UN resolutions my foot.
Well if these irish guys live up to the standards of the irish who served in Jadotville the local trouble makers had better be careful 😅
They actually do nothing and hizbula is freely roaming the border, they have left their stations
Well they can’t really do anything can they. They can defend themselves, but are powerless aside from monitoring. Remember Sebrenica , a UN designated safe area.
They won't. They side with Hezbollah.
@@bigbird6039 There's a world of difference between these Irish and the Dutch in Srebrenica. The Irish are among the most respected UN contigents, together with the Canadians and the Nordics. The Dutch sent conscripts to Srebrenica, with the known results. Not that their commander was any better.
@@peabase Respected by whom? we brits certainly don't. The military of Cyprus is more respected within military circles.
stay safe from Israeli air strikes

Since when are they there ?
1978 as part of Unifil. but they are also on the Golan Heights
They are there continuosly since 1978
Scary place to be with war possibility at any time
My father was a peacekeeper in the Congo
Wow, they are in a really untenable position.
What about UN resolutions 1701 ? Forgotten ? What about evacuated Israeli citizens ? What about killed Israel civilians?
I know Irish troops will do everyting possible but they need political support.
keep peace? ive never heard of them shooting down rockers or terrorists coming out of Lebanon?
Not their job.

Get them outta there how many of them are there even? An inadequate amount.
Irish soldiers what would happen if northern Ireland and Republican irish had to work together 🤔.
Nothing
Northern Ireland is less than 30 percent of this country. It would stay the same just with more soldiers
Where are the Ukraine supporters voicing their outcry for Palestine?
Ireland supports Ukraine and Palestinians
Sadly, the peacekeeping force seems to have no control over what Hezbollah chooses to do in Lebanon. It has to be Hezbollah, or their supporters who killed this soldier. It was a mob. What kind of mistake? Who else lives there and who could they possibly have thought were in those vehicles. Hezbollah does not want the UN there. The Irishman was a brave young soldier.
the UN couldnt prevent a brawl at an OAPs tea party never mind a war!!!
Sad but true ,its the politicans who make the rules and the troops who pay the price.
Human to Human , lol how does someone go to somewhere thats getting bombed to see someone, then it gets bombed and they run away. what sort of life is that. respect thats steel
Used to be a lovely Christian country Lebanon until.the Muslims occupied it

As was Iran.
What a joke, I hope they don't die in vain. Imagine giving your life for the United Nothing! Iran is now leading the UN human rights council. Iran. Human rights. 😢
48 Irish soldiers have died on that mission since the late 70s, the highest of any UNIFIL contributing country,
pretty pointless presence, lives at risk for nothing
UN-involved
I did not no Ireland had an army lol
I bet yer Mom knew 😄
We don't. We have a defence force. Mainly UN forces.
Pull them out and use the UN budget somewhere else where it will make a difference.
There hasn't been a new mission in 15 years
All that 3rd class Robbers becoming 1st class Racist in the world 😢💔💔💔
get these boys out of there, they don't need to die in stupid wars that have nothing to do with their country, they have families waiting for them.
Yawn 🥱
Peace keepers or Hezbollah keepers??
They are basically medics
Hezbollah only killed an Irish soldier earlier this year so yeah not exactly their keepers when a total of 48 Irish troops have been killed over the years 15 by the actions of Israel and her proxies.
Both the Hezbollah and the IDF accuse the UN of being partial. I guess it's OK then.
Well there mission has failed then what a joke eh waste of time wow there watching it that will stop them
Why is Israel attacking these peacekeeping forces?
The UN encouraged Hamas
"Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas and transferring money to Hamas … This is part of our strategy - to isolate the Palestinians in Gaza from the Palestinians in the West Bank.”
March 2019, Netanyahu told his Likud colleagues the above.
Likud Party: Original Party Platform (1977)
a. The right of the Jewish people to the land of Israel is eternal and indisputable and is linked with the right to security and peace; therefore, Judea and Samaria will not be handed to any foreign administration; BETWEEN THE SEA AND THE JORDAN THERE WILL ONLY ISRAELI SOVEREIGNTY
b. A plan which relinquishes parts of western Eretz Israel, undermines our right to the country, unavoidably leads to the establishment of a "Palestinian State," jeopardizes the security of the Jewish population, endangers the existence of the State of Israel. and frustrates any prospect of peace
Brig. Gen. Yitzhak Segev, who was the Israeli military governor in Gaza in the early 1980s. Segev later told a New York Times reporter that he had helped finance the Palestinian Islamist movement as a “counterweight” to the secularists and leftists of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Fatah party, led by Yasser Arafat (who himself referred to Hamas as “a creature of Israel.”)
“The Israeli government gave me a budget,” the retired brigadier general confessed, “and the military government gives to the mosques.”
“Hamas, to my great regret, is Israel’s creation,” Avner Cohen, a former Israeli religious affairs official who worked in Gaza for more than two decades, told the Wall Street Journal in 2009. Back in the mid-1980s, Cohen even wrote an official report to his superiors warning them not to play divide-and-rule in the Occupied Territories, by backing Palestinian Islamists against Palestinian secularists. “I … suggest focusing our efforts on finding ways to break up this monster before this reality jumps in our face,” he wrote.

Just remember the Irish Republic is lucky to be in the UN! Was not till 1955 that the Republic was allowed to join because of perceived sympathy towards a certain political party in Germany!
No
It’s because we didn’t boycott Germany after ww2
We opened trade humanitarian aid and wanted German unity.
Our membership was vetoed
Ireland opened its borders for Jews after the holocaust
Many of those Jews who died only died because coy like France Spain USA and uk turned them away from safety and back to Germany
It was the Soviets who vetoed Irish membership as for saying we were sympathetic to Germany is a false narrative when the country contributed so much to the allied cause,
The Soviets vetoed Irelands entry because they feared they would always vote with the Western allainces within the UN. The only stopped the vetoe when 4 other communist countries were allowed in under a deal.
Irelands membership of the UN was vetoed by Russia because they knew Ireland would be another ally to the USA, France and UK in the UN.
Poacher turned gamekeeper.
I know someone very close who, during his military service, liaised with overpaid UNIFIL and told me they were worthless in carrying out their mission.
They ran away or turned a blind eye to Hezbollah violations of UNSCR 1701 and the Irish contingent enjoyed themselves getting drunk in pubs in Tiberias chasing after Israeli girls.
I also know Irish soldiers who were murdered by the IDF in Southern Lebanon, let's not be holier than thou here ,Israel totally turned a blind eye here .So don't come here denigrating Irish Peacekeepers or any others and is the main reason why the Irish public have turned from total support for Israel in the 1920s and 40s to opposition in 2023 ...we see South Africa 1974 when it comes to Israel

There is no mandate for a peacekeeping mission in Gaza. For there to be a peace keeping mission israel would have to agree to it and there would have to be a vote at the UN with no veto. Both very unlikely.
