Tony Clarkin was the writer and lead guitarist. Unfortuntely, early this years he passed away. Magnum celebrated their 50th year as a band last year. They came out with their 24th album in January this year. Bob Cately is the singer. He is also one of the regular singers for Avantasia. He has also done 6 of his own albums. Two are based around the Lord of the Rings. They did take a hiatus in 1998. Bob and Tony did a different project called Hard Rain. They did two albums before going back to Magnum. May I recommend a newer song called "Spim like a Wheel". It is over 6 minutes long but the whole song is amazing. Also, there is "Don't wake the lion" which is over 10 minutes long though you would not realise it when you listen to it. This is the only band I have seen live twice.
I been a Magnum fan for over thirty years now, seen them live easily fifty times and they will always be one of the greatest pomp rock bands this country has produced, they are from the midlands and we're active from the early seventies right up to when Tony Clarkin, the founder member, lyricist, and guitarist sadly passed away in January this year
I have never heard these guys before. Really enjoyed it. I was trying to work out the sound they have and fantasy rock is all i could come up with. Not sure it was a genre before now but it fits in my mind

Fantasy rock. Definitely fits!
Rodney Matthews did a few of their album covers. "On a Storyteller's Night" from 1985 is a great one too. Look it up if you get the time.
