Here’s a cosmetology tip … the hot comb straightens better when you lay the back of it on the hair. It’s not the comb that gets it straight, it’s the BACK of it. That part of the hot comb is called the spine. For this look you could “silken” it by holding tissue under the hair and straightening it as mentioned above…. Just a lil tip!!! The hair looked gorgeous!!!
Mine is 4C and very very curly. What is referred to as "nappy". I don't ever try to flatten or straighten it. I moisturise and oil. God created me this way and the world will just have to deal with it.

I am a black women and I went to predominantly white schools from pre-k -high school. I didn’t realize my me or my hair was beautiful until I attended a HBCU and met people that looked like me had and hair my hair texture. I realized then that my hair wasn’t “nappy” but beautiful! Having a black dad, when my hair was frizzy and obviously not done he would say “Your hair looks nappy go fix it” or “damn your hair is nappy girl” I never took it in a offensive way since he’s always been an aggressive talker. Yeah. I thought that was a lot when she straightened with it, and that section looked crunchy or greasy at the finished look (but the bob was bobbin). A good leave in and heat protector before blow drying and a little olive oil has always worked for me when pressing my edges. Turns out silky and light, extremely manageable, and always reverts back which is most important to me.
i watched her use the stick and then the comb and immediately cringed. If i want my edges straight, just put heat protector and use a heated brush. Your edges do not need this amount of heat.

I never refer to my hair as nappy. The people I know who use that word use it in a way that is rooted in self-hate and ignorance. When I had locs, I never called them dreadlocks because they're not dreadful.

good hair but your edges never need this level of heat. Use a heated brush or mini flat iron with heat protector ONLY. Then you can use a wax stick.

You can call your hair kinky, coily, afro (not the style but the texture), 4C. You don’t have to call it nappy just because it’s not loose curls
