  • I was having a nice morning in my local park with my dog. Had been doing volunteer gardening. I noticed vehicles left unattended for much longer than 10 minutes with the engines running in a public place right next to a children's play park and busy area. In the interest of community spirit and public safety I decided to politely mention this to the operators, who became abusive. I observed poor health and safety practices. I was threatened with assault with a vehicle and had hate speech directed at me. My civil rights were breached and my freedom of movement restricted. People who claimed to be council employees spoke over me, did not seem to take my complaint seriously and addressed me in an unprofessional manner ordering me, a member of the public, around. I also feel said employee may have divulged information about me that led to the other gentleman making the hate speech. His colleague found it most amusing. I also feel that Nathan SHOULD have been interested in my concerns there on the spot as they were health and safety related.
    UPDATE:
The council have responded by stating that my bringing the idle vehicles to their attention was inappropriate. That I was breaking the law by following the employees around and filming in a public place. (dash cam on bike for exactly these kind of reasons) They said nothing about the hate speech, just that some of their language was "bad".
Despite my simply quoting the law from a distance, they have also stated that I was acting threatening and intimidating. It was they that came up shaking fists in my face.
They stated that my aim was to prevent the people from working, despite them all being stood around vaping when I arrived. I was turning to leave when the hate speech was made.
They also said they take health and safety of the public very seriously.
