However, I could be wrong about that!
Had a lot of trouble getting started with this. What helped was holding the heavy kick down during the first launch so you get it to hit as fast as possible. Excellent guide, thank you!
Probably the best rom video there is. One thing that you could add that's a bit outside the box though. If you coached someone doing the rom, and then pointed out why it dropped, every time. Because it isn't just rush through the inputs, there's some timing to it, so seeing things like "this drop happened because ___ was too slow" or "this drop was because ___ was too fast" etc. real good video though
Yo that's a good idea! Maybe I'll make a follow up video with this type of information because there is definitely people asking these types of questions. Thanks man :)
@@FilthGnasty Yeah I've just been a musician for a long time. My fingers are great, just not sure how to diagnose why a combo drops and what the solutions are. It is a great video regardless
Luckily the vast majority of the cast are normal bodies with the normal character physics. The ones you have to watch out for are Sentinel, Jugg, Blackheart and Hulk!
This video is awesome. I’m no where even close to being good at this game (PS2) this combo makes it even tougher cause I only know how to play on pad lol. Regardless, it’s great to see the button inputs live and the different setups for this. To the lab I go!
I used to play on pad and honestly, within the first week of playing on stick, I was already way better than I ever was on pad. Totally worth the switch :). But if you plan on sticking to the pad for a while, I'd suggesting holding it like a little fight stick where you control the joystick/dpad with your left thumb and use your right middle and index fingers to press the controller face buttons. That seems to be the way all the top pad players play. Good luck on learning the game!
I was originally trying to do this on Hitbox and it was driving me insane but watching the stick movements in real time makes me think it might be easier to swing the stick rather than using the buttons for movement in this game.

1st level magneto: I can do double magic series into hyper grav. 2nd level magneto: I can do the ROM infinite and beat anyone! 3rd level magneto: I never use more than a couple reps of ROM unless I need to assert stage position. It's just a mixup/reset tool. Pro tip: fierce combo is your bread and butter. I do not understand calling Magneto cheap. At least not specifically. The entire top tier has cheap attributes: Storm can choose to never be touched and still be threatening. Zone through all 4 quadrants of the stage, and pretty much always has another option available. Cable can finish your game with a single tap with 3 bars and minimal execution demands. Sentinel has many scenarios where he essentially fearless and can bait a hit to trade until massive damage. He is certainly the most execution intensive of all of them but there's a reason he's pretty much a universal mainstay in all top tier team comps.
This is my favorite tutorial i've found since the collection launched, i feel like this might fix some of the issues i've been having. but how do you end the combo???
A hypergrav tempest is a popular ender because you can catch an opponent back in the ROM after the super and then go right back into another hypergrav tempest if you're good enough. You can go for a mixup reset or a throw reset. You can snap out the character if needed. Theres quite a bit of options honestly. But ultimately the best option is to try and secure a kill
Great video, but I wish you'd talk a bit about how to end the rom. I've seen some stuff with msp like psyblade into tempest or instant dhc to storm but I'd be interested to know if there are good standard options other than st hk shockwave or just snap.
Some other options are a throw reset, a mixup reset, hypergrav tempest (explained in video), a fancy raw tag corner-only combo (explained in video), a hard knock down into an assist (like horizontal typhoon or drones) which will allow for a combo expention. The beauty of it is you can get creative with it. It sounds like you know the most important ones which are the ones that will deal the most damage. Ultimate you want to do whatever will deal the most damage or whatever will secure you a kill if possible.
Ok G, after a couple of week I've managed to become "consistant-ish" with the ROM and the basic starters... now, may I ask you how should I end it, like "how to end with Tempest and/or how to reset/mix-up after knockdown"? Thanks greatly!
congrats on the progress! i'll be completely honest, i don't play much Magneto myself so i too could use this kind of advice lol. but essentially the goal with this character is to one touch kill. so you want to refine your execution so well that you can rom to corner and hypergrav tempest until death. that's the perfect scenario but also a LOT of work, so not really realistic when first learning the game. resets can be good but they're not always the best option because they can be blocked if your opponent is expecting it, or they can tech hit if you go for a throw reset. same thing with mix ups after knockdowns. they can always be blocked however they can still be really really good. for best mixup potential, you definitely want to incorporate your assist so that they're also attacking the opponent on wake up. that makes things extra tricky to block. i would suggest that you find 2-3 mixups to practice using each of your favorite assists and alternate between them so that the opponent never knows what to expect. i know this is pretty broad advice but i hope it still helps! feel free to reach out with more questions if you'd like
@@Ryuma103desires I’m using an Xbox series x controller on PC and have managed to get up to 45 hits on a few days practice, granted it’s really only from a 2LK starter so getting more combo starter opportunities and converting is gonna be a nightmare but progress is progress
Yeah i switched back to pad when this came out, i got a stick and it's way better for tekken, but somehow in 2d games i can't figure out how to fcking jump lol
i can get most of it but i can never get the loop going. i super jump do light kick light kick then when i try and dash down the light kick on the way down always wiffs and am i doing it too fast?
hey Ryan. hmm, it's hard for me to say without seeing what you're doing. add me on discord and maybe send me a short video @filthgnasty you might not be letting Magneto get enough height before you do the tri jump LK. let him get a little higher before you do the tri jump would be my initial suggestion
When you say "now just repeat step 6 through 9" I think you mean repeat steps 5 not 6, step 6 is a down light kick but that never comes out after the two light kicks after your super jump, I think you mean after the two light kicks after super jump you have to dash down forward again right?
@ nah it's all good, I just wanted to make sure before I put in the time lol. So after the super jump in step 5 it's two light kicks then immediately dash down forward and repeat with two light kicks again right?
Any tips for the super jump part? My brains paying more attention to the hits and hit confirms to be ready to super jump. 🤣. If it’s just keep doing it that’s fine advice.
hmm yeah, it sounds like it might just be best to get the repetition down so that the muscle memory kicks in. once the muscle memory takes over on the down lk lk, i think you'll be able to focus on super jumping next. keep going :)
I can do it perfectly with dreamcast controller but I can't always get constant air dash to lk to keep the rom going. Even after pressing both punch buttons sometimes it doesn't do an air dash all the time.
hey what's up lorexio. it sounds like your button pressing timing for the 2 punch buttons is off if your air dashes aren't coming out. you have to press them at the exact same time every time. mvc2 is pretty strict when it comes to button dashing. i'm also happy to watch a video to give some more advice. you can add filthgnasty on discord and send me the video
How come when I try to do the the Down-Forward dash +LK for the 7th hit (or after the psy assist) it sometime won't come out? It'll just do the DF Dash but the LK won't come out. I've been having this odd issue. Not sure if anyone knows what I'm talking about.
Hmm, not sure. Are you on fight stick or controller? I would try piano rolling a button dash into an LK while standing to see if your LKs come out. What you want to see is a little micro dash before the LK comes out. Should be pretty easy just to confirm your buttons are working correctly
Hey can somebody please help me with this? I got to Step 7 OK But when I try to super jump after the first LK, LK I always cross myself up and super Jump on the other side making me whiff my 2nd set of LK, LK... Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
hey anaconda. just to make sure, are you doing a downward LK when doing step 7? if you're whiffing your 2nd set of LKs, it sounds like you might not be doing it fast enough? you can possibly try hitting them earlier
I typed the above comment early in the video… This is by far the most comprehensive combo tutorial I’ve ever seen. You really get into the mechanics of everything. Fantastic job and very informative!
Honestly I did want to start the video with that line, and even recorded myself saying it, but I went with this instead lol. Glad you like it and thank you for the kind words! Just tryna help everyone level up!
Yes this is definitely possible on controller. I'm always of the mindset that a fight stick is better HOWEVER I'm also of the mindset that you should play however is most comfortable. My advice for all controller players is to hold the controller like a tiny little fight stick and press the face buttons with your index and ring finger as opposed to with your thumb. Much more practical holding the controller that way imo. Most top controller players hold it like this (thrillah, world matchue, etc.)
@@FilthGnasty thank you for the advise yeah I been practicing this everyday literally and I have half of it down and I can juggle the cpu a bit but I’m still trying to get it down and I’m trying to pull it off online which is even harder LOL but all good I’ll get it eventually
Hey man first off this tutorial is fucking great, thanks a lot for making it. I think I still dont understand all of the mechanics behind flying screen. Because of flying screen, is there nothing you can do at all after the final down hk in a 5 fierce besides run mix?
i appreciate that miller! yup that's correct, only thing you can do after that 5 fierce knock down is a mix. there are some pretty nasty mix options from that position though, so definitely take some notes when you're watching high tier marvel!
Struggling to successfully follow up after the air dash to down light kick. I’m going as fast as possible but I drop it and the AI starts to block. I’m only able to land it right mayne2 times out of ten if that
After the air dash down forward after the HK, make sure you're holding down (or down forward) to ensure you get the downward LK. If you're doing that, maybe you can space out the d.lk and the 2nd lk, I don't think it needs to be as fast as possible. Pay attention to my fight stick overlay as well, that might help
My bad on the late response! Hopefully you've been able to pull it off by now. Are you just getting normal jumps? If so, maybe you're doing the sj input too early. See if slowing down/waiting helps!
It's super hard on dpad bro, you can't use slide or claw method so I suggest you map one of your bumper buttons to lp+hp so you can dash by pressing one button, and even then the infinite is hard because you literally have to press the dash button with your index and then like 3 frames after you gotta press the lk button with your thumb, but not too soon or too late etc, basically it's hard af man.
Yeah, I'd recommend holding the controller like a little fight stick and pressing the face button with your index and middle finger instead with your thumb. Most top players that are on pad hold it this way. Using only your thumb to press the face buttons is very limiting, especially when trying to do things like a lightning attack with storm, which is done by pressing A and Y simultaneously (or X and triangle on playstation)
Yo what up djaftermath. Nah, their infinites are way different. They're much easier, actually. There's some tutorials out there can you come learn from 🙂
thanks! i use poles with articulating monitor arms for my set up. one pole is used with 2 monitor arms to have my monitors one on top of the other. then i have another pole with 1 monitor arm that holds my monitor to the side.
You can do anything on the controller if you put your mind to it! No but seriously, there's plenty of top players that play on pad, so yes, definitely possible! One thing you might try experimenting with is holding the pad like a little fight stick. I would say most players on pad do that. So, they press face buttons with their index and middle fingers instead of holding the controller the traditional way and moving the joystick/pressing buttons with their thumbs
a nasty variation you missed: c. lk, c. hk xx sj. air dash d/f hk (otg), c. lk, c.hk xx sj. lk lk into rom it's rollable but rarely rolled when mixed into other setups, very flashy
Yup, that's a good one for sure! That's more of a setup for the Rom though, rather than a Rom variation. I did think about adding that and another similar OTG setup that I know of, however I decided to leave them out because that's a little bit more advanced Magneto tech imo, and this video was meant to be a little more beginner friendly. But you're absolutely right, people have to be on top of it to roll that setup bc it happens so damn fast!
How tf u do step 6? It's like the small down angle kick always fallowing up with the second kick...this is stupid...or maybe this combo works on a arcade version because it's obviously not working on the PS4 version
during the airdash down forward after the hk, hold down (or down forward) to make sure you get the down angled kick, then just hit lk again for the second followup. it's gotta be quick. the opponent should be just a tad off the ground, perfectly in place for the SJ 5lk.
yo! i have zero experience playing on a keyboard and i don't know anyone that plays on a keyboard so i really can't say. but you know what they say, you can do anything you put your mind to!

Hey bro is this possible on pad? Like a ps4/ps5 pad?
I can do it perfectly with dreamcast controller but I can't always get constant air dash to lk to keep the rom going. Even after pressing both punch buttons sometimes it doesn't do an air dash all the time.
hey what's up lorexio. it sounds like your button pressing timing for the 2 punch buttons is off if your air dashes aren't coming out. you have to press them at the exact same time every time. mvc2 is pretty strict when it comes to button dashing.
i'm also happy to watch a video to give some more advice. you can add filthgnasty on discord and send me the video
Keep it up bro
Appreciate the encouragement homie! 👊
@@FilthGnastywe need you now more than ever with the new mvc collection coming out!
Yessir! I'm on a short vacation right now but when I get home, I'm gonna try and push some more educational content out 😁
How come when I try to do the the Down-Forward dash +LK for the 7th hit (or after the psy assist) it sometime won't come out? It'll just do the DF Dash but the LK won't come out. I've been having this odd issue. Not sure if anyone knows what I'm talking about.
Hmm, not sure. Are you on fight stick or controller? I would try piano rolling a button dash into an LK while standing to see if your LKs come out. What you want to see is a little micro dash before the LK comes out. Should be pretty easy just to confirm your buttons are working correctly
@@FilthGnasty yes, everything works but accept whenever I go for the Down-Forward + LK. If you want I can show you a clip I can DM you with.
Sure, DM me!
That kpop video in the beginning... I see you!
Lmao. I added that just for you 😂
lmao yesssss!@@FilthGnasty
Hey can somebody please help me with this? I got to Step 7 OK But when I try to super jump after the first LK, LK I always cross myself up and super Jump on the other side making me whiff my 2nd set of LK, LK... Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
hey anaconda. just to make sure, are you doing a downward LK when doing step 7? if you're whiffing your 2nd set of LKs, it sounds like you might not be doing it fast enough? you can possibly try hitting them earlier
Yo you wanna learn how to do a f’in infinite?! 🤣
This is awesome. Thanks man!
You will for sure! I definitely need to try this. Been meaning to get back into the gawd game… and I think this was the help I needed!
@@mattatsu let me know if you need some help or have some questions. I'm happy to help!
You already have lots of videos that will help for sure. I just need to put in the work!
Can I do this combo with a controller? Or do you recommend arcade stick
I cant get past step 8 where you super jump into the light kick
Hey Oby. Make sure that when you land, you press down and up right away to get a super jump. The game won't automatically super jump for you there
Struggling to successfully follow up after the air dash to down light kick.
I can't seem to get that super jump any tips
My bad on the late response! Hopefully you've been able to pull it off by now. Are you just getting normal jumps? If so, maybe you're doing the sj input too early. See if slowing down/waiting helps!
How do I do this on a D-pad?! Ñolol
Finally! Lets gooooooo
5:23 don’t mind me just need a way to go back to this demonstration :)
You're stimulating the algo, I don't mind at all! Thanks for watching! 🫡
@@FilthGnasty thank you for making such a great resource 🫡
hey brother, any tips for doing it on controller?
Yeah, I'd recommend holding the controller like a little fight stick and pressing the face button with your index and middle finger instead with your thumb. Most top players that are on pad hold it this way. Using only your thumb to press the face buttons is very limiting, especially when trying to do things like a lightning attack with storm, which is done by pressing A and Y simultaneously (or X and triangle on playstation)
@@FilthGnasty thanks my guy, i am used to claw gripping the left side of my controller because DMC, but now for the right side.......
excellent video
Appreciate that and thanks for watching! 🙏💙
Lots of good gems here 👌🏽
Ayyy, glad you think so! Thank you for watching!
Are Iron Mans/War Machine's infinite combos similar to this?
Yo what up djaftermath. Nah, their infinites are way different. They're much easier, actually. There's some tutorials out there can you come learn from 🙂
That setup is clean mind telling me the monitor setup ??
thanks! i use poles with articulating monitor arms for my set up. one pole is used with 2 monitor arms to have my monitors one on top of the other. then i have another pole with 1 monitor arm that holds my monitor to the side.
Can you do this on a Controller or pad only
You can do anything on the controller if you put your mind to it!
I'll look up a how to on that sounds difficult to get used to. @@FilthGnasty
Thank you
You're welcome!
Yes I am still doing early 2000s combos
Hahaha. Not anymore after this video hopefully :)
a nasty variation you missed:
c. lk, c. hk xx sj. air dash d/f hk (otg), c. lk, c.hk xx sj. lk lk into rom
it's rollable but rarely rolled when mixed into other setups, very flashy
Yup, exactly what mvc2fan said. Thanks @mvc2fan!
Is this doable in keyboard 😭
yo! i have zero experience playing on a keyboard and i don't know anyone that plays on a keyboard so i really can't say. but you know what they say, you can do anything you put your mind to!
Dope
Appreciate it. Thanks for watching!
Going to try this on pad 💀
I know people that do it on pad so it's definitely possible!
is there a way to do this for people with ADHD...got to be an ADHD method...
Yo what up smooth! Sorry but I don't really understand what you mean by there being an "ADHD method", can you explain?
I just can't get it to repeat it
yo! it's hard to say what you're doing wrong without seeing what you're doing. can you explain where you're failing and what's happening?
Can I pull this off on the PS2 version? Lol
What up Mango. I've never played on the PS2 but I imagine that you could. Give it a try!
"Magneto's cheap @$$." ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
Lol that man is CHEAP!!!!
Can you still do the rom infinite on the mvc collection?
Definitely!
All this on a stock remote is a tall task
Indeed. Hard but not impossible!
How about iron man infinite
Idk how to do it but as soon as I do, I'll make a vid!
How the fuck did people figure this shit out in arcades??
your guess is as good as mine lol
I think your shirt is a fake btw. It's spelled "marvel"
Holy shid thanks for telling me I must take this video down immediately
