I was thinking of using metallic thread for a fill stitch design. This is an absolutely awesome & informative video. Echidna Sewing is always the 1st video I would turn to for any issues, problems, questions I have. Gary, you are such a wealth of info!
After this great video, I look forward to working with metallic thread. I have always been afraid of using this type of thread. Thank you for all the great information in this video.
Einfach fantastisch erklärt! Wenn ich das mal vorher gewusst hätte, wäre mir viel Frust und Zeit erspart geblieben! Schade, dass sie so weit weg sind 🥲 vielen Dank für das Teilen Ihres Wissens.
I bought the Control a Twist thread stand a few years ago. It's fantastic. Always use it for metallic threads. Thanks for another great informative video.
Very informative Gary! I use a longer thread path and an Echidna 8 spool thread stand!!! The threads you cut off can be put between sheets of WSS and sewn over to make pretty fabric!!! Where can I find the thread spool adapter on the Echidna site???
@rebwolfe2702 Thank you for your feedback. We do sell the spool adapter but you will need to give us a call on 1800 000 360 to purchase it as we only have it in the showroom.
Very helpful video. Clear and concise. Could you give your input on using metallic thread to quilt a table runner. After watching this video, I think NO. It will have hot dishes, a sundry of plates, bowls et al set upon it, which means it will be washed more often. Also, quilting is intended to stabilize the quilt sandwich. Metallic thread does not seem functionally reliable for this job. Thoughts?
@michellegutierrez5664 It is perfectly fine to use as a quilting thread as quilting is not construction of the quilt. The metallic threads will probably not last as long as a pure polyester thread due to the nature of what it is constructed of. You could definitely try it and see if you like the effect.
thanks very much very informative video. I even bought a stand from Martelli [USA] still had probs only Floriani upside down no probs an a small spool of Madeira & Mettler.thank you

@janenes2782 there is no set tension for Metallic (you have to test to work this out), we do recommend a lighter top tension and slowing your machine right down, as you would with a domestic machine as it is the same principles to get a good result.
Hello there. What settings would you recommend for a Luminaire for the top tension? Default is 00. Also, would you recommend a light spray of silicone spray on the metallic thread? It probably wouldn't penetrate the metal, but would it help it any? One more question (of course) - is the Hemingworth embroidery design that you stitched out available to consumers? I made a cover for my hemingworth cabinet to protect from sun/dust and it would be great to have that stitched on the cover. Thanks
Hi @rachels8857, you can loosen it off slightly (try 02), always test how well it stitches. We do recommend a spray of silicon spray - best results are when you spray it and leave it overnight. We don't have the Hemingworth logo as an available purchase unfortunately. Thank you for all your questions and if you need any further help please let us know :)
Thanks Gary, I received my order from your store and doing my first (ever) metallic “name” on a reading pillow…am following all your suggestions so, wish me well 🤞🏽
Hi I was looking for the organ embroidery needles there are two types one that says for Embroidery shape point and Embroidery ball point which one are you using on this machine and which one is best for t-shirt and baby grows fabric thank you
Hi Ferhat, we use the brand Triumph and only use the embroidery needles (which are a ball point). Here is a link to the embroidery needles on our website. www.echidnasewing.com.au/tnc-embroidery-needle
Hi I have a slightly thick embroidery thread and I tryed to use it on my brother machine xj1 but kept on braking please can you tell me which machine needles to use thank you
@milliemacphee9351 When stitching you may hear a popping sound as the needle pulls out of the fabric. You need to check your foot height is not up too high if you are able to adjust it.

Hi Gary, is your foot pressure at default settings for using this metallic thread or did you make any adjustments?
Hi Deborah, yes the foot pressure is at default when using the metallic thread.
Thanks Gary,
I received my order from your store and doing my first (ever) metallic “name” on a reading pillow…am following all your suggestions so, wish me well 🤞🏽
Hope it went well for you!
Does this awesome info go with using a multi needle machine?
Yes, absolutely it would help :)

Hi Gary, What font are you using there please?
Hi Ann, the Hemingworth word was digitised for our demonstration. Looks brilliant doesn't it :)
Do the multi-needle machines handle metallic threads well?
Hi Izzy, we use our metallic threads on all machines including multi-needles without any issues!
Hi I have a slightly thick embroidery thread and I tryed to use it on my brother machine xj1 but kept on braking please can you tell me which machine needles to use thank you
HI Ferhat, you can try raising your presser foot and a larger eye embroidery needle.
And can Embroidery needles be used for any fabric so I don’t have to keep changing it
Embroidery needles are used on any fabric that you are embroidering onto. :)
Thank you for your reply 👍
What does flagging look like
