      Hey Liam, thanks for the vid. Interesting to see it from a different perspective. Would imagine the the differences will expand when you get beyond the "reception" step & get into the core of the training and especially after when you are in permanent duty unit. I found the Brits to have an interesting spin on things compared to the US.

      LiamBrown the thought is quite good to see you want to see what we do. But this video isn't the best representative for this.

      I agree this video isn't the best for watching how basic training is for the U.S. infantry. I went to Fort Benning for basic and AIT and I can tell you what you watch isn't basic triaing at all. Drill Sgt. Moore told all of us at the time that (what you just watched) we were there just for transitioning from civilian to a military personnel, they weren't not "allowed" to punish, yell, or smoke us and so forth but doesn't mean they wouldn't. As soon as they officers of cameras were away then suddenly it was a half right, face!. Then the lush ups began.

  • @psgchisolm

    This isn't basic training, this is just reception. Reception is where you get all your uniforms and inprocessing paperwork and medical done. Basic is where the actual training is actually done. This is why it seems so chill and relaxed.

      knowledgeable Kiwi when I passed through 30th AG, the drill sgts there were all really nice to us. Spoke respectfully, never yelled at us, a guy got caught sleeping during the day under his bunk, drill Sgt just said get up, you are not allowed to sleep until lights out. All part of making you feel a little comfortable before the cattle car ride down range into the shark attack.

    This was much more chill than my US Navy boot camp in Great Lakes Illinois in 1985 . We got yelled at from the first minute we stepped off the bus . We filled out paperwork until about 3am , were put into used raincoats and led to a room full of bare mattresses on the deck then the lights were shut off . Reveille at 6am found the lights turned on and our instructors came into the room banging trash cans with truncheons and throwing the lids at those slow to respond . A couple of the recruits wet themselves and some tears were shed . Then we were marched , as it was , to breakfast , wearing manky old raincoats over our civilian clothes . After breakfast we were marched to the Barber Shop, shorn , then led to a room where we were relieved of everything . Our naked herd was sent into a shower where we washed ourselves then walked through a delousing shower . Exiting the decontamination room we walked naked into the place where our uniforms were issued. We dressed ourselves in the order that our uniform items were issued to us . Undergarments first , boots and headgear last . Now we had that new recruit odor of insecticide and clothing starch . This perfume was an improvement over the smell of three day old travel sweat , fear and urine we started the day off with . Then it was time for lunch . Half way into day one .

      Victor Waddell That was an interesting read

    • @victorwaddell6530
      @victorwaddell6530 6 лет назад +26

      So we stood in the best resemblance of a column that we could form after only three hours of sleep and five hours of instruction. 73 new recruits now labored under a big green sack on our backs that was our Sea Bag . Now we were Company 85093 of Recruit Training Command , Great Lakes , Illinois, United States Navy . Before us were the two men who would transform us from civilians into sailors . The lead instructor was IC1 Adgie. His second was ABE2 Greene . They were our Company Commanders . They were dressed in black uniforms with white sailor's caps on their heads like Popeye The Sailor or that kid on the Cracker Jack box . But I got the feeling there was no prize under a handful of candy coated popcorn and peanuts . And that instead of crushing cans of spinach and punching Bluto, it was their job to crush and punch me . We marched under the weight of our sea bags to the same building that we had been fed reconstituted eggs and bland sausage links in the dark of 0600 . We placed the green sacks on the ground and filed into the galley . There was no time to savor our lunch or even recognize what had been slopped onto our trays by recruits a few weeks more advanced than us . The beverages that were available were a sugary red ersatz Cool Aid that we learned to call Bug Juice , milk , and chocolate milk from a cafeteria type dispensers . Before the last man was fed the first in line was already forming into the column that we had arrived in and strapping his sea bag onto his back . The airline food from yesterday seemed like a Royal Feast by comparison . We assumed our formation and were marched off to what would be our new home for the next couple of months . By this time our Company Commanders had determined who could march in a straight line and put those men up front . So with the order of Company ! Attention! Forward March ! We carried our personal moving vans to our new digs .

      Kevin L Thanks, Brother. I just posted chapter two .

    • @victorwaddell6530
      @victorwaddell6530 6 лет назад +13

      Kevin L I joined when Ronald Reagan was President in 1985 , and EAOSed in 1995 when Bill Clinton was President . We used "salty" language often , I could teach a course on how to swear " like a sailor " and teach you terms you've never heard before . Stress Cards , Time Out , WTF was that ? We had "Bosun's Locker Justice " and "He Fell Down A Ladder " happening in the fleet . There is a thing called The Chain Of Command wherein things get handled at the lowest level, and back in my day that meant that often two men might meet each other in a private setting . 'Nuff Said. Satan worship . If anyone was into that they kept it to themselves . We weren't known to be a bunch of choir boys but most of us had some sort of spiritual belief . The military has a Chaplain Corps whose main job is to look after the spiritual , moral and psychological welfare of service members. Proselytizing and converting others to a particular faith is not their mission. The majority of them are Christian/ Catholic or Jewish but look after everyone no matter their faith or lack of . I can't recall any kind of shrine to any particular deity . I hope I was if help to you .

The official rankings are put together from a number of different factors, I'm sure they're more accurate than a dimwit on a youtune comments section (for example, you). And they are not "Wikipedia stats". There are numerous sources that all point to the UK being 5th or 6th as a global world power. Look it up for yourself. And how the fuck does a single army recruit rank an entire nation, cause I'm sure someone in the army definetly knows the air force and navy inside out! Grow a brain cell, ur comment made no godam sense...

    The transformation from civilian to a disciplined professional soldier is hard at first, but self discipline in hygiene and uniform through ironing and cleaning and teamwork. Having everyone treated the same creates equality and indoctrination of pride, self esteem does go a long way in improving confidence and ability. Having served myself and with many life long friends still serving primarily with 16th Brigade in Colchester. Nothing beats your self accomplishment and numerous skills taught to survive and defend the values and customs that we all have taken for granted within the 🇬🇧 UK!

    Ft. Benning, Ga. Is a subtropical environment. During a summer cycle, trainees could suffer heat stroke if they become dehydrated, that is why they wear the camel backs every where they go. We only had canteens in my time but we had to carry one in a cargo pocket of our BDU bottoms every where we went. I remember they sent an Eskimo who'd joined the Alaskan National Guard home... he was having health problems because of the heat. He came back for a winter cycle. And the 30th AG mentioned here, it is a reception battalion. We were only allowed pt uniforms there, and treated like prisoners for 30 days. One kid tried to hang himself with a vacuum cleaner cord. Right before leaving the reception battalion we were issued proper uniforms and sent to Sand Hill, that is where the training battalions were. Mine was 1st Battalion 38th Infantry. 11Bs did 12 or 13 weeks before graduation, Mikes needed 2 more weeks for mechanized training and mortar men stayed two extra weeks. It was Summer 1992....

    What's with the smiles in the video? I went through Benning in 1990....nothing to smile about, even at the 30th AG (Reception). I tried it once and my Drill Sergeant told me if he saw me smile again he'd kill me. Of course he wouldn't have killed me....but it felt like it at the time. Different time. Of course all soldiers think they've had it tougher than the present generation....but we honestly did have it tougher, it was still the Cold War Army. Good video, Liam. Keep doing good things, man, and stay motivated. I retired in 2010 after 20 years, 3 of those in Iraq as an Infantryman, and plenty of other deployments.

    This was at the reception station. Not a part of Basic at all. It's all in-processing in a separate facility. Day one of Basic is when everyone is crammed on a bus and driven around until they drop you off at the actual Infantry areas. Once those doors open up, it's open season for the Drill Sgts and the beginning of a long hard day for unsuspecting privates.

    Specialist Medically Retired, US Army here. We were required to have our Camelbacks on at all times back at Fort Benning. From what I heard, it was because too many soldiers weren't getting enough water. Some people in my training were fairly old. I think the cutoff age in 2009 was 35 or something. I think we had that same Sergeant telling us what to buy when I was there... the guy with the real thick accent? yeah, that one.

    I'm 14, 15 in October. I'm wanting to join the British Army when I'm 18, feel I need A-Levels before hand. The plan for me is to do 50 press ups, 50 sit ups, and some light jogging for about 10 mins a day. Do this until I'm 16, and when I turn 16 do some more hardcore training, pushing myself as hard as I can so I can do the best I can. Just wondering if this sounded like a good plan, and wanted to ask a dude with experience like yourself. Thanks.

    • @michaelsmout6895
      @michaelsmout6895 6 лет назад +4

      I have been in 6 years and i can say yes i would wait until you are 18 and get A levels. In terms of training the basic entrance tests are a 44 press ups in under 2 min, 50 sit ups in under 2 min and 1.5 mile run in under 10:30 (it's lower if you want to go paras, for paras you want to run under 9 min).
      You can get through training if you can meet those requirements but the fitter you are when you arrive the easier you will find it!
      Also try tabbing (walking/running with weight on your back) before you go just so you don't have a huge shock when you get there like i did!
      Squats and deadlifts are great for training legs and core strength is needed for training.
      But don't worry too much about physical tests its not hard to get to where you need to be!

      @M_Lars 6 лет назад

      nice advice, i want to hopefully join Para's at some point. if you go in as Infantry you wont need A-levels but you will for an Officer, sounds like a good plan though, even if you dont stick to it everyday just make sure you can do a good amount of them

The ones that go off and fight are the ones that don't fit in and need something to boost there morale, for example lots of U.S soldiers just went to aghanistan for a sleazy massacre and poor pay!? So pls don't join army!! Bottom of the Barrel those Sods🙂

      Skylar Sinclair soldiers are some of the best people there are. I would much rather be with soldiers, it is hard to find a more down to earth and hard working group. The army isn't for everyone but to tell someone not to join when they want to because a business man is more useful? I would rather serve with men and women who put their lives in the line for each other then hang out with people on fat cat salaries.

Neither the USA nor the Brits have higher quality units, they train each other all the time to make the most effective soldiers. Only time you can really make quality comparisons is when you talk about the SEALs and SAS, and then everyone conveniently forgets the Green Berets

    • @liammiller2407

      It's been debunked because you wish it wasn't true? That's not how it works buddy, there's videos all over youtube of British troops training US troops, NOT just cross training. Literally on one of the videos a US lieutenant says the Royal Marines are elite troops and that's why they come to learn from them.
