Howdy! Lots of you guys have mentioned clubs making a bigger impact on the "pockets of uniformity" within the larger classes than the girls' gameplay roles, which makes sense! That being said, I do still wish that different club members from the same school still looked like they actually.... go to the same school. lol. Ya feel me?
You can tell who's from which school district based on their school's motifs. Like trinity having angel or Christian themes or Gehenna being based on demons or demonic traits like horns and tails. Even Millennium students have techno wear and are much futuristic and as you said above the students are based much more on their clubs and their positions within said clubs. But if you look closely based on world building you can see a design for who belongs to each school for most of the students. The only real outliers is Abydos but you can tell just based on their school uniform.
@@LamChopa What are the angel themes for Yoshimi, Hifumi, Ui, Airi, Hanae, Natsu, Hanako, and Serina?
What are the demonic traits on Ako, Mutsuki, Chinatsu, and Haruka?
How are Millennium students "more techno" than the others? Normal school uniforms and yoga pants are "futuristic"?
Yeah, a lot of the Gehenna girls have horns, and a lot of the Trinity girls have wings. But not all do, and this video is about uniforms... y'know... their clothes, anyway.
@@twiinsiink Most of the students in trinity that you listed either have a cross or if they are in a casual unaligned club have a trinity emblem
For the Gahenna they have sharp ears. Haruka wears a demonic goat skull with a small demon Keychain around. Ako is weird since for story purposes she puts Hina above the school and is more akin to a knight but she has a gehenna emblem it's just hidden by her ummm assets.
Most Millennium students sport the futuristic glossy looking jacket with a few exceptions like cleaning and clearing designated as a special task force.
So I mean if you look you can tell where they go. Outside of that the schools act as small countries with the clubs being small factions in those countries anyhow so they put the design of the club first and their secondary traits as a student to that specific school second in design. Most designs are based on clubs and the students position in said club. You can see the school country vs faction in action during the game with gahenna vs problem solver 68 or gaming vs cleaning and clearing.
I also forgot to mention that gahenna is based on Germany and Trinity is Britain which explains certain dress codes like haruka and hina.
Also the Millennium jackets usually have a bunch if random shit tacked on normally belts and laces
@@LamChopa Calling Parkas "futuristic" is a bit of a stretch if you ask me (especially since it's just them being colorful. Something all the school have), but ok.
The video's still just about uniforms tho, so you can calm down now.
I love watching twiins talk about character design
I want more
Me too. I especially want to know her thoughts on the Fire Emblem designs
Agreed. I like to make my own characters, and Twiins' character design videos motivate me and help me take certain things into consideration.
Most of the designs in Blue Archive are oriented around their clubs instead of their specific school, which in of itself is really just a "Hey this is the nation we're based off of," while clubs are a lot more consistent with their own motifs. For example in Hyakkiyako's Etiquette Training Society all of their members are following a red/white shrine maiden motif, where as another part of Hyakkiyako's Ninjutsu Research Department has them wearing a sailor uniform with a long flowing scarf. And y'know anything that makes their design lean towards a ninja aesthetic (i.e Izuna with kunai strapped to her thigh.)
As brought up in the video Hyakkiyako is overtly Japanese, the same can be said for most of the other major schools. Just going to make the list here for which school is based off of what.
Trinity is based off of the United Kingdom
Gehenna is based off of Germany
Hyakkiyako is based off of Japan
Shanhaijing is based off of China
Red Winter is based off of Russia/Soviet Union
Other schools aren't based off of anything specific, or at least that I know of currently so I'll just list a fun fact to go along with em.
Abydos - The name is based off of an Egyptian city... Which for reasons I won't explain fits quite well.
Millenium - It's the only school that isn't based on a religious motif, which boy does this game loves to do usually
Arius - Speaing of religious motifs, this school is named after the guy who pushed the Christian doctrine of... Arianism. Fun. For more reasons I won't explain this also fits quite well.
I don't have any more fun facts, so have a nice day.
Some people in the comments have already pointed out what it might be (the fact that they go to different clubs or something) and I didn't know anything about this game until now but I still really enjoyed this video. I love how you always analyse/critizice the designs based on whether they follow the rules of the established universe or not.
Counterpoint: what about consistency within clubs?
Maybe for whatever reason they have different uniforms based on what club they're in. For the most part, the uniforms seem to be consistent within clubs. Take Trinity for example: you have the edgy dark angel-themed Justice Task Force, the nurse-themed Remedial Knights, the nun-themed Sisterhood, etc.
Abydos students are all part of the same club by virtue of the school having only 5 students in total, so it would make sense.
The exceptions that come to mind are the Millennium's Engineering Department and Game Development Department, and Gehenna's Problem Solver 68. The latter could be explained with Problem Solver 68 being a dysfunctional, glorified illegal fixer business run by a chuunibyou villain wannabe, so it's no surprise they'd not care a lot about uniformity.
I think there is also another angle that we can look at. Gehena is a school whose motto is individuality and uniqueness, which could be the reason why they dont have a hard set uniform. Trinity is actually composed of multiple factions of schools that joined together so there might be multiple set of uniforms. Hyakkiyado is in the same boat as Trinity, not so much a school but different clubs and organization joint together under one banner. As for Millenium, I have no idea. Maybe they might not even have uniform at all and just sell jackets and clothes with the school logo on it like university in America, which would explain some of the uniform-esque appearances.
Millenium motif, besies C&C, is just wearing a jacket.
Well they are still students and school and they have own clubs and dress like normal people like example millennium academy maid dress maid and science use lab coat even the dress different but still lab coat also dress code of millennium
Like in real life many countries use dress code following government academic but some countries can use normal dress but polite one
let's be honest here tho, what uniform you wear is the last problem in the plates of both the higher ups of kivotos and the school's themselfs
You're 100% right cuz I'm really confused on which school they go to, which job or group they're in. I'm like "oh. They all attend the same school together. What? They don't? At least I know what job they do. What? That tank character is actually a healer?" I'm that meme with the woman with the math equations
YESSS NIKPICK CORNER HAS RETURNED
When the world needed it most, it returned.
Thank god she didn't drop this series!
The schools function more like city states rather than an actual school, if you want outfit consistency it's better to separate the students among clubs.
The ones you described with similar colors/outfits are all from the same clubs, like C&C, Justice, Arius squad, Abydos Foreclosure task force, so I think it's better to compare them among their fellow club members.
I have not heard of this game before, but the designs look really cute. I am impressed on how they have clothes that have a mix of modern and traditional clothing. They have clothes that I would consider office work clothing with button up white shirts and pants/skirts but still looks fantasy-ish and not plain. It could be all the layers with the patterns and accessories or something. I don't know if it has a specific style like gothic lolita and Japan seems to experiment more to have a lot of unique styles like this, and it looks fun to dress that way.
uoohh cute and funny game 😭
your character design vids are probably my favorite type of content from you
Thank you!
You raise an interesting point up for sure. I think a few things to note are this:
It seems like most schools have a very casual if at all existent dress code. For example is Millenium: C&C all follow their concept of being a maid of sorts though each member adds a portion of their personality into the outfits. Veritas are genrerally all in baggy clothing since they are meant to be hackers and nerds.
Gehena dosent seem to have a dress code and seems to be a club by club basis. Iroha who is wearing the military outfit is consistent with the other members of the Pandemonium Society, while every other club does not have a consistent dress code.
Abydos is an interesting case since i would day they are probably doing the best adhereing to the schools dress code as there is no one else left at their school to follow it anyway.
Trinity seems to be similar to Gehena in the fact that it is a club by club basis on who has a strict uniform. But Trinity is also where we see the biggest case of artistic liberty taken since all the unamed students who pop up in story cutscenes have the same or similar uniforms (this alsp happens with Gehena) BUT most of the characters we know or have as playable units are so wildly distinct that im assuming its because they are "protagonists" in some form of the word. The best club in Trinity for thematic consistency is the Justice Task Force (the black and red uniforms) ONLY members of the club are wearing that uniform which helps identfy those unamed characters in story when they show up.
So most of the discrepancies come down to
-a specific club has a specific uniform
-they are our characters so they need to be unique and indetifiable in some way
The uniforms make more sense if you divide it by clubs, and see it for its theme rather than color.
Add in each school's main philosphy(?) And done.
Gehenna is like this wild and lawless school,
trinity is classic and innocent,
milennium is modern,
hyakiyakko is japanese,
shanhaijing is chinese,
red winter is russian,
arius is rather mysterious,
SRT and valkryie is tactical.
while yes, i never actually thought about uniform design before this video so thank you
I could watch this person talk about character designs for hours
You know, for as much as I love a good majority of the designs in Blue Archive, you do make a fantastic point about many of the schools having either little to no unity in their supposed 'uniforms', or the unity is very much either scattered, or some groups that are supposed to be a group don't even look like they're supposed to be in the same group. I guess the developers and artists for the game figured that people wouldn't find many of the characters memorable if they did stick with the whole uniformity that Abydos has, plus the fact that it's a GACHA would mean that most people would clearly focus on their SINGLE waifus from one group instead of the whole group, and so they decided to scrap the whole unity thing they had going for some school and focus entirely on just making cute designs, uniformity be damned? Idk, I'm just guessing why the designs are they way they are.
The characters are based around their schools motifs not uniforms. For example look at trinity who's based on Christianity all of them have some ties to Christian related elements such as being angels or being apart of a sisterhood. All the schools have a similar thing going on and you can figure which student goes where once you figure out which schools motif is what. The only outlier is abydos but since most of their students scattered to other schools they share similar physical elements to other students. But even abydos students have motifs like hoshinos eye of horus.
3:40 If you swap Hasumi and Tsurugi around you'd have the perfect Pokemon evolution line here
His new regional variant for Murkrow is a lot.... more different than I expected.
Justice task force members: we hate Gehenna
Also Justice task force members: *make a uniform with similar color palette to Gehenna
Note: I think that the reason why Abydos and SRT students has very similar uniform is because, they're the only group or members of their school
Also you can see their body features to know where they're, if they has angel feature they're 100% Trinity students, if they has horns and bat wings they're 100% from Gehenna, you get the point
I love Nitpick corner! It’s always so much fun to see designs explored in a way that I never would have thought of otherwise.
i like hearing people ranting about game i played, it feels good when they were right
It feels like they designed the girls first and then decided what schools they would be part of
There are clubs and they usually have similar outfits if they are in the same club
One thing to factor in is clubs. Uniforms differ depending on clubs. Also on the subject of Gehenna lacking any consistency, I mean it makes sense for a school that is chaos incarnate to have no student in dress regulation.
I think one thing to keep in mind is that in the end, this is a gacha game, and that in order to make characters appealing enough for the target audience to roll for, they have to be unique in some way. That’s probably why you see a loose collection of some uniformity and some uniqueness. Gacha game has to be gacha game
even setting aside the grouping of clubs, i'm honestly glad they don't lean too heavily into uniforms because as interesting as it could be for a certain amount, it would ultimately feel limiting. so many of the really great designs just wouldn't be in the game at all as they are if they had to instead adhere to even a loose dress code
I think there is an initial consistency but since they kept adding more girls the consistency only continued between the ones who were released together at the same time as they were probably designed at the same time too.
Then again, even some of the release units don't follow under that so, as nice as it'd have been, they probably just designed the obvious ones who use the uniform first then designed the others later on.
I agree, the lack consistency in design makes it difficult to guess which school or club the girls are from at first. I think it's byproduct of the developers trying to make each girl unique and distinct from each other.
While I donagree in some aspects, most the inconsistencies you've noticed stem from the different clubs within each school district.
I wonder if the random designs is due to outsourcing artists for a few characters a piece? I don't know anything about the game but do recognize some of the characters being drawn by Bach-Do (Dishwasher) with his exact style while other characters are very clearly drawn by other various people. The inconsistency could be that they had a single artist/team for the schools with a unified look then aren't giving clear directions of what they want from the commissioned artist and instead are just picking the designs they like as if they are stand alone characters.
I want to point out that there are 30+ different artists, some of them kept designs consistent across characters, and some of them didn't.
the game doesnt have a director to give designs the ok? artists just do whatever the hell they want? pretty sure nothing works that way
@@twiinsiink I think its the best of explanation for the randomness to the designs though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@twiinsiink Most of the artists only drew one or two characters, and it just so happened that most of those were the ones you pointed out. I never said anything about the director not confirming or artists drawing whatever they want ;-;
@@twiinsiink it is, most Japanese gacha games hire freelance artists and give them a general overview, then let them do the work, it's the same with F/GO, Azur Lane, Iron saga, etc.
Some designers take Into account what they're working on and make a consistent design with a general theme, others do what they like, compare Azur lane's KMS Prinz Eugene and Hipper with some more modern designs like those in the K-class, or Artoria Pendragon from FGO to Young James Moriarty.
i see it as more of school sectrs as some places like trinity are a union of various schools so there is that, then probably the most acurate reason is that most of the characters are made by diferent artists so the artist probably go and just do whatever they like without regard for what other students look like
bruh, they have different clothes set-ups not only because of schools, but because of clubs/teams they belong to, like "Problem Solver 68", "Game Development Deparment" etc. Like Iori and Aru are in different teams, while in the same school.
Another great video
A good funny video! I've never played blue archive but I can definitely see how this could be something that nags at a person.
If you're interested, I'd love to hear your take on some designs in Arknights. Technowear is one of my favourite styles of fashion and Arknights is all technowear!
I know this video is a year old, but I just wanted to say that it sometimes seems like sensei is not interacting with the girls during school hours. Some of them seem to have actual school uniforms, like the maids, but don't wear them outside of classes.
One should consider these "schools" as closer to the governing bodies that they represent than actual academia, with the dress code mainly seemingly to be just "have the logo somewhere on the outfit" and that's it. especially since Kivitos is much closer to fantasy and its definition of "school" is not really at-all based in our reality.
I enjoyed the video it was a good excuse to look at some good designs
WOOOOHHH! More Twiins critiquin character designs!!
I believe some of the similar uniform is based on their clubs.
Really nice video !
1:54 nanoka is not part of the student council. Or in a way she is an ordinary student. Only people with authority wear white in the red winter academy. I like your design talk but I do believe their choice with the design is mostly lore related.
wtf half the tanks wear less clothing than the rest of the other girls
It is established in this world that the students are pretty much indestructible and take bullets like it a BB gun pellet(they still can get hurt and knocked out of the fight, however). The teacher/sensei (The player) can die like any normal human if they get shot so that's why students go to battle.
The loading screen issue is something everybody knows about and it's inexcusable.
The game loads for longer than AAA games with denuvo and anti-cheat that have 10x more assets, and this is not an exaggeration.
Also sometimes, especially when updating to a new version of the game, the game can outright refuse to launch.
I would love to see more videos on the story since I think the club uniforms will makes more sense when you the characters and world more
Love your character design break downs
I totally agree with you, I guess the diffrences result from lazy waifu design. I like, that all the halos look different
I could understand one or 2 outliers been something like exchange students or wearing a " winter" uniform but those big schools...ya that's a mess. Wonder if some were originally designed for another school but got scrapped and/ or moved to other school with little to no design changes.
I personally feel like if they were going to take advantage of the uniforms for a team base game then they shouldn’t have had it be centred around a school setting. It’s a fun idea and it automatically group the different girls together but having some match and then others not is kinda a waste of potential. Because honestly the I personally think that the design that are cohesive look better overall because they don’t look like they could be from any other generic gotcha game
I believe the 4 girls that have the same style of clothes from the beginning of the story are in the same club. Still this is a nice video to show how varied and maybe not so much the different schools and their clubs are.
The reason why I don’t like magia record character wise in the game because there are way too many. Like with rhythm games it’s somewhat easier to keep up, despite magia record being fun to play it’s very challenging to know and care about the characters
Oh hey this game looks pretty cool
1:58 well that's Russian school theme as Stalin
If you think these are bad, you should see what they did to bandori's year 5 outfits. Big oof moment right there
Maybe a reason why some dont work is becouse some tranfer shool from one to another XD
It's not, only 1 student is a transfer and thats Azusa, and her design was already stated to have a colour scheme that matches with other Trinity students
This video makes me wonder about your other videos were you say a design is bad because it lacks consistency in the world or makes sense for the character, like it's interesting how those aspects can make a design better or worse.
I love this game but uniforms must stick with a theme. I grew up in a asian catholic school and uniforms are strict af
Wait there is a madoka magica games ( well thats new).
Heh I'm not expecting you would do a Blue Archives design like half of them were monochrome .
(Just saying i can't and don't play the game due to the looong loading screen resulting on my phone to crash a lot it looks fun and adorable but rip the memory cards. )
Need more video about blue archives. 🙃
Fun
short counter: its the clubs that mess with the flow. On a more serious note can you upload some of your Gacha rolls I always like see other people roll and compare my luck to theres, if its not to much of a bother. if you upload more Blue Archive ill watch it.
People really don't read pinned comments, huh?
But, too let you know, I've gotten 5 unique 3 Stars and 1 dupe across like, 8 pulls.
@@twiinsiink I have gotten 7 and now recently 8 with NY Mutsuki from pure gacha since the start of the game. your really lucky. and my apologies for not reading the pin comment but be assured I wont be the last.
As others have mentioned, most of the "uniform" variances are tied to clubs (all the Millenium maids are in the maid club, Abydos is like that because they are... well, one cohesive club, not because of school) but honestly I completely understand the nitpicking and feeling like it's just not clearly defined. I played since the game came out on JP so I've been able to keep up with the releases, and thus know tidbits about their lore/how they fit into the school thanks to events. I didn't really think about uniforms in the case of distinguishing which goes to which school because I largely focus on the additional features, too. Angel wings are from Trinity, devil wings/features are from Gehenna, animal ears are from Hyakkiyako or Shanhaijing, Millenium has a scientist/health angle. There's honestly too little to classify with Red Winter, same with Abydos - but because they have so few members it's not that big of a deal. And since Arius has a significant main story focus, they don't really need the same signifiers - just like the Abydos girls.
Well, they clarly use different artists for some of the different character illustrations. I looked at the two in the thumbnail and they don't even look like they're from the same game.
F/GO does it too, so I'm not surprised gacha games with huge casts do this, but still sometimes the inconsistency irks me.
This video is about character design, not art style. Of course different artists' illustrations don't look identical to each other.
@@twiinsiink I know, I was just pointing out a different kind of inconsistency (that seems to happen in games like this pretty often) since that's what you were chiefly talking about in reference to their designs. I swear I wasn't trying to be critical off base. ^^;
The students dress based of clubs some academy Schools are wear lab coat like millennium and for Trinity they are school and church club where some students wear school dress code and nun dress
For gehena I heard club of discipline to keep maintain and peace like hina team squad they wear like different styles but still some npc and people will recognize those dress code not from horn even halo
Arknights please!
Does anyone know if Blue Archive has any girls in it that mostly or only fight using punches?
No, all the girls have range weaponry and the entire gameplay is based around that. It would be nice to see melee combat but it just isn't there.
@@carlospomares3225 Well then what do the girls do when the enemies get too close?
@@lordvexacus6011 Are you talking in the gameplay or hypothetically?
@@carlospomares3225 The gameplay.
@@lordvexacus6011 pretty much shoot the enemy point blank. The enemies also do not have any melee units.
hmm interesting take, Indeed it seems true on the surface, but if you actually read stories and events, it roughly tells you how and why certain clubs and schools are dressed in a certain way, all I can say about this is, Its a largely uninformed video.
Cunny archive UUUUOOOOOOHHHH
Why assume that every school has a set dress code? Plenty of schools sell uniforms but don't enforce them.
Do azur lane next
so you clearly didn't play the game. got it
Played the game quite a lot, just haven't read the story really.
Don't worry, no ones saying you imaginary, 14-year-old, mobile game girlfriend looks bad. I just like discussing outfits.
