I feel Jose struggle. My family was extremely poor and the memories of being broke is heartbreaking.
Now, I make sure my kids don’t waste any food 🥘 when they order it.

Man I remember growing up poor. My mom did her best though. She got tricked into coming to the US as she was naive as fuck. But in her 30s living the good life with a good job in Colombia. She lost it all for the piece of shit of my father. He didn't even get smuggled in at the same time. He literally sent her and me at age like 6 months.
My dad eventually showed up only to be imprisoned and then deported back to Colombia. This fool lied on the phone for YEARS about sending cards and gifts. Never got any. Later found out he had slept with women before my mom, during and after. He was the ultimate pos who manipulated people into giving him money or letting him borrow some. He died a drunk passed out after hitting his head on the floor. And he was a hard worker waking up 5am to do exercise before work. He was dedicated but to all the wrong shit.
My mom did her best in her own. We moved countries, still poor, hoping other family in Europe could help but eventually we end up broke again. It was tough. And she passed after getting cancer in 2020 then passing in 2021. May she RIP. She deserved it. Never had time for herself. Just her 2 children. Imma make sure I become the father I never had and live up to my mom's standards and go beyond. We gotta cut this generational curse as Kendrick puts it.

US is huge though. LA to San Diego is like traveling across country in any country in Europe. Most states in the US are the size of a country. It's no wonder it's so divided. How the hell do you keep that many people in check, with the same rules and shit. People down south are different to the west and east and definitely north. Everyone is different and have different needs.
It takes a day to travel across California from top to bottom, no? That's tough. Especially if you're driving and taking breaks. And that's another thing. You gotta have a car. There's no public transport really. They expect you to do a lot. From 15 they want you to decide your life and somehow afford a car, apartment, food, clothes, bills, etc. Fuck that. I remember leaving at 11. Would've been fucked if I stayed. I saw what happened to my friends.

growing up I got to live in the hood Pico n Vermont 213 .In the 90`s I was the one bald headed dressed as a gangbanger . I can relate .. that helped me ,, in becoming street smart . but I knew that wasnt what i wanted to end up as.. now living in Sherman Oaks now working for an attorney as a paralegal .. Im glad I lived in the hood ,, we can all make it out
