It looks so much better with the top cut. As you said, the straight trunk and inverse taper will never be gone. I have a similar predicament with a black pine I have (not as girthy as the scots was, but too thick to bend). After seeing this, it's swayed me more towards going through with it. I might just wait till later in the year. Great video, thanks.
Now really looking forward to your decisions on my Scots Pine in November although if you do make any big chops on mine give me time to turn my back! Roy
Wow, i think i woulda found another way, to get a bigger tree, and worked on reducing that inverse taper somehow. But hey u your little tree has an awesome trunk. 😊
I loved the build up chat and was in full agreement with your first shout. Great decision and I will be looking forward to seeing how this one develops in a few years.
Do you think you could you have guy wired the new leader up using a screw at the back of the cut trunk? The angle is still fairly lateral even with tipping it. Just a thought. Good move chopping it, you're right, those faults were never going away.

Before the chop I wasn't so sure but no that was the correct choice for that tree, looks great!
so you can use petroleum gel as cut paste ?
also I think the tree will turn looking really good !!!
I would chop it too
