I love the way this movie illustrates the relationship Laura has with Cooper. She doesn't know him as the man who solves the mystery of her murder because that hasn't happened yet. In her horrifying final days, she sees Cooper in her dreams and visions as a symbol of protection. She trusts him. She feels safe with him. In her final moments, he is here watching over her. He smiles down at her to let her know that everything is alright now. In a way... Cooper was her angel.
This scene never fails to move me to tears. David Lynch's directing, Sheryl Lee's acting, and the music by Angelo Badalamenti really make this scene unforgettable. Fire Walk With Me is a true masterpiece, it's sad that it didn't get the recognition it deserved back when it was released.

Sheryl Lee's performance in this movie, IN THIS last scene in particular is so indescribable -- I just cannot use words because it is lyrical. I am moved to tears every time I see it- . It is so heart wrenching, it grips at my heart. You should have seen her in Salome, on Broadway with Al Pacino. She is really just a little girl inside a woman's body, like Marilyn. Both Lynch and Frost were obsessed with her too btw. The horror. If it hadn't been so graphic so horrific, this scene would have been lost. The music is SO incredibly profound. It has harmonic progressions that go beyond normal composition, I'd say bittersweet, surreal, chords that change character while they don't actually change.
Actually this is the result when the parts move properly. The only place where the progression is exceptional is at 1:49 when b minor moves down to a minor, it's a special moment. You can feel the sudden drop. Beautifully done. But then immediately it moves back to common practice, so the music still stays in character, and not unravel.

You have to remember "the Black Lodge" is summoned by fear, and the "White Lodge" is summoned by love. I think the angel is from the White Lodge. It's there to remind her that despite how messed up Laura was, she was still loved.
I rarely get moved by movies, or even much at all, but this never fails to bring tears to my eyes. It's difficult to put this feeling into words but David Lynch really does get it, not saying I have it as bad as poor Laura did but as someone who's never had the best time with mental health in my life, I know how it is to feel lost like she did.. all you want to do is find peace of mind instead of feeling tormented and struggling with every waking hour, and only in death can she finally achieve her peace and she's so happy she weeps. Like yeah i feel that. I do think there are far worst things to suffer in life than death itself. I hope whatever happens in this life everything will be fine in the end, I hope I can find pure peace and joy like this somehow and laugh and cry over it like Laura did. She deserved that and so do we all. To everyone out there suffering, I'm sorry. I won't say everything will be ok because i don't know for certain, but I hope you'll get to see your angel someday
If you get it you are living it (my experience)and this movie is a clue - the good news is you don't have to bring up the memories to heal the trauma that is causing you so much pain. Dr. Jeffrey Levine has been studying trauma for 40 years and developed somatic experiencing - look into disassociation and somatic experiencing - 52 years of struggle and hell later and I finally saw my angel.
@@j-skullz heatherz Also pray - pray hard focus as much as you can on your connection to God - I had to try everything else before I gave into this and I am now living in such peace - not 24/7 but so much of the time - life is still life but now that I stopped trying to fix stuff on my own and said OK God I am going to do this faith thing - it's really hard to let go - he has revealed himself and who I am and I cry in total joy and humble gratitude for every seemingly painful thing he put in my life because it was all to bring me back to him. As I type these words I can't believe a 30 agnostic is saying these things but it's all true - seek and you shall find is true but for some of us it takes a real long time and a lot of tough love but I would not change a thing to be where I am now - pray and don't stop - practice - baby steps hone your focus to go straight toward God and you won't regret it.
This is the polar opposite scene to the end of the series. I was terrified and sad at the end of Twin Peaks, and at the end of this film filled with joy and a real sense of closure. While the concept of time seems nonexistent in the Lodge (the anachronism with Annie in Laura's bed), I still feel I have to mourn for Cooper, but at the same time this scene makes me feel as if he's still bringing good to the victims of the Lodge. He's a hero and his success lies in tragic downfall. Bravo, Lynch.
This scene is just heartbreaking, so hauntingly beautiful and what a perfect ending for the movie - and for the series as well. This is one the most touching scenes of the whole Twin Peaks, along with the bar scene and Leland's confession. The closure for Laura is so beautiful and Sheryl did a wonderful job with the scene, she makes Laura so happy and it just seems so right. And I think this is the exact scene why there's no need of the series to continue. This scene sums it all up.

NazcarFanatic24 that certainly fits well for he ending of season 3. Her death needed to happen to counteract the evil. She needed to die to kill bob, to complete people, above many things to regain her innocence through death. Trauma no more is what this scene told me. this scene is so moving! you can appreciate this weird and surreal movie only if you understand deeply the story of Twin Peaks and the drama of Laura Palmer. The bad reviews fire walk with me received were surely written by people who didn't follow very well the complicated plot of the tv series
Doesn't fade this does it. I don't think it ever will either. I was 11 when Twin Peaks came on - I'd never been so profoundly affected by a 'fictional' character before. I'm sure I wasn't the only one.
I cry every single time. This scene is absolutely phenomenal, it really makes you see everything that twin peaks is as an entity. S1 2 and 3 as well as FWWM and extended material included.
One day people will look back at this as were it the MONA LISA ! Lynch does with a camera what the masters did in their time with paint on the Canvas....you just can't explain why this is sooo moving, but is........as a mather of fact, you don't have to understand Twin Peaks, you just feel instinctively that this touches you on a unconscious level.....it talks about good and evil within your very soul!
The score by Mr. Badalamenti is perfect here, with the piece entitled The Voice of Love. Can't even imagine this sequence being filmed on a sound-stage-- mostly in silence, basically just David Lynch giving Sheryl and Kyle some suggestions for expressions and what-have-you as they shoot the scene. Of course they knew that eventually there would be lovely music put in later. But it must seem strange in the moment.
I look at this scene as Agent Cooper telling Laura "You and I are in this together now, and no matter how dark everything seems, there will always be light at the end of the tunnel. And we will beat this together."

The most beautiful ending i've ever seen, like damn i cry everytime i hear this songs and this scene. The good poetical moment when the white shall unites with the dark and colorful tints to become a harmony of self in the heaven, succumbed by darkness but shall free and smile happily to greet up the light. It's like thesis (black) unites with antithesis (white) to become a synthesis and balance of life, and finally she feels harmony in heaven. Dale is magician, he chants between two worlds to create a deal to make synthesis and keep in peace. He's an unknown angel for Laura as well.
Watching this scene again after a few years, I notice many things-- the little Saturn globe with a cone/pyramid, the striped floor (compare with Beetlejuice), The 2 lamps -- Jachin and Boaz, The angel and the statue of Venus superimposed on each other. Black on the left side (Laura Palmer and Cooper), white on the other. I almost feel like Laura is Venus and Cooper is the Angel coming to save her. And this is all happening in the celestial realm...
After watching this a few times (in tears), I've come to believe that the shot of Laura looking up to Cooper in the lodge is not her looking up to him, but rather Laura looking to Director David Lynch. This entire film was to do the series justice, but more importantly it shows the tragedy and triumph of the girl that Twin Peaks would soon forget. Lynch never once forgot about Laura. Lynch loved Laura; she was the fixture that Twin Peaks would forever be known for to him. Inland Empire does something similar in addressing the relationship between creator and creation, but rather than presenting one of Lynch's characters to himself, he sends them to discover those who have grown to love them: the audience. The audience is as much a part to the creative process to Lynch as he is. He respects his audience deeply and wants to show them the respect they have earned. In Fire Walk With Me, Lynch exhibits the same admiration he has for his audience to his creation, Laura Palmer. Fire Walk With Me and Inland EMpire, I believe, are his most personal works for these reasons.
Lets try this again without the massive spelling errors: I cry every single time I watch this scene. Through the whole movie Sheryl just acts so well, letting the smiling façade slip from time to time to reveal the heartbroken and exhausted person Laura really is. I BELIEVE it the way Sheryl acts it, all the pain and the hopelessness. And then this! Then this perfect happiness that it's over and she's finally safe from it all, and I just cry. Every. Single. Time.
It's impossible not to feel empathy for the character whose destiny has already been written and not to admire the actress,whose career should have shone more.
Read a theory that this is actually what Season 3 is building up to, Laura finally able to ascend into the White Lodge, because of the nature of time in the Lodge it's being presented to us non-linearly.
Not only this scene is beautiful in a way I can’t describe. I think and I know I’m not alone, that Sheryl Lee is one of the greatest actresses of our time, her portrayal is Amazing, so full of emotions and so deep. She should be much more recognized than she is, she is outstanding.

I imagine this woman rejoicing that she is coming out of her psychic agony, she was traumatized. Through romantic and corporal love we will go out safely to paradise.
Laura Palmer and Dale Cooper finally find peace. Unfortunately the events of Season 3 deny Laura and Dale their peace. The last image we see is a confused Dale and a tormented Laura.
But maybe this is after the season 3 finale when her scream shatters the entire thing to pieces and Judy has been defeated, and Dale and Laura find themselves back to who they were 25 years ago in the prime of their beauty.
This is an absolute masterpiece, a peak of cinema in all its forms, I mean I get why people would dislike it but David Lynch choose this typical story about a choosen one but with a big plot twist, where this heroic character its brought to the mud and dirt by this evil forces around this universe, he gave us a deeply disturbed human being in the middle of this eternal fight of good and evil and reduce her to the very level of all mankind, making her go through a journey of a desperate will to achieve absolution, which was given to her in this very end, The Return gave us a different kind of Laura Palmer, one who was saved by Cooper and was in this eternal loop of a hero who fails, but FWWM I think its the perfect ending for a character as big as Laura Palmer, mention apart Sheryl Lee, she gave one of the most epic performances in such a young age, everything in Twin Peaks universe is worth of recognition and admiration.

TheLoneSith I look at this scene as Agent Cooper saying "You and I are in this together" and he gave her an angel to show her that even when things seem hopeless, there's still good out there, and that the two of them are going to fight the evil.
NazcarFanatic24 that certainly fits well for he ending of season 3. Her death needed to happen to counteract the evil. She needed to die to kill bob, to complete people, above many things to regain her innocence through death. Trauma no more is what this scene told me. You can either believe this ending or season 3 ending:

this scene is so moving! you can appreciate this weird and surreal movie only if you understand deeply the story of Twin Peaks and the drama of Laura Palmer. The bad reviews fire walk with me received were surely written by people who didn't follow very well the complicated plot of the tv series

Lynch does with a camera what the masters did in their time with paint on the Canvas....you just can't explain why this is sooo moving, but is........as a mather of fact, you don't have to understand Twin Peaks, you just feel instinctively that this touches you on a unconscious level.....it talks about good and evil within your very soul!

This scene is just indescribable...you can watch this several times and get new meaning each time. Such incredible acting.
The score by Mr. Badalamenti is perfect here, with the piece entitled The Voice of Love. Can't even imagine this sequence being filmed on a sound-stage-- mostly in silence, basically just David Lynch giving Sheryl and Kyle some suggestions for expressions and what-have-you as they shoot the scene. Of course they knew that eventually there would be lovely music put in later. But it must seem strange in the moment.

NazcarFanatic24 couldn't have been said better...no matter how eccentric copper or the town of twin peaks was they wanted Laura's soul to be put to rest because she was the soul of the town and now she can achieve peace with Cooper by her side like his promise
MystikalScope Productions I feel there was a huge missed opportunity in Season 3 to not expand upon their relationship. I think after they bonded like this they’d become friends. Cooper always optimistic, Laura way to cynical. There’s comedy in there

The most beautiful ending i've ever seen, like damn i cry everytime i hear this songs and this scene. The good poetical moment when the white shall unites with the dark and colorful tints to become a harmony of self in the heaven, succumbed by darkness but shall free and smile happily to greet up the light. It's like thesis (black) unites with antithesis (white) to become a synthesis and balance of life, and finally she feels harmony in heaven.
Dale is magician, he chants between two worlds to create a deal to make synthesis and keep in peace. He's an unknown angel for Laura as well.

Watching this scene again after a few years, I notice many things-- the little Saturn globe with a cone/pyramid, the striped floor (compare with Beetlejuice), The 2 lamps -- Jachin and Boaz, The angel and the statue of Venus superimposed on each other. Black on the left side (Laura Palmer and Cooper), white on the other. I almost feel like Laura is Venus and Cooper is the Angel coming to save her. And this is all happening in the celestial realm...
After watching this a few times (in tears), I've come to believe that the shot of Laura looking up to Cooper in the lodge is not her looking up to him, but rather Laura looking to Director David Lynch. This entire film was to do the series justice, but more importantly it shows the tragedy and triumph of the girl that Twin Peaks would soon forget. Lynch never once forgot about Laura. Lynch loved Laura; she was the fixture that Twin Peaks would forever be known for to him. Inland Empire does something similar in addressing the relationship between creator and creation, but rather than presenting one of Lynch's characters to himself, he sends them to discover those who have grown to love them: the audience. The audience is as much a part to the creative process to Lynch as he is. He respects his audience deeply and wants to show them the respect they have earned. In Fire Walk With Me, Lynch exhibits the same admiration he has for his audience to his creation, Laura Palmer. Fire Walk With Me and Inland EMpire, I believe, are his most personal works for these reasons.

Through the whole movie Sheryl just acts so well, letting the smiling façade slip from time to time to reveal the heartbroken and exhausted person Laura really is. I BELIEVE it the way Sheryl acts it, all the pain and the hopelessness. And then this!
Then this perfect happiness that it's over and she's finally safe from it all, and I just cry.

Read a theory that this is actually what Season 3 is building up to, Laura finally able to ascend into the White Lodge, because of the nature of time in the Lodge it's being presented to us non-linearly.
Not only this scene is beautiful in a way I can’t describe. I think and I know I’m not alone, that Sheryl Lee is one of the greatest actresses of our time, her portrayal is Amazing, so full of emotions and so deep. She should be much more recognized than she is, she is outstanding.

I'm so glad this movie is finally being appreciated today and I applaude Lynch for having the courage to follow his muse. Movies can be made for people, places or events, but rarely do people make them for a character. The movie is for Laura Palmer, plain and simple.

I imagine this woman rejoicing that she is coming out of her psychic agony, she was traumatized. Through romantic and corporal love we will go out safely to paradise.

Laura Palmer and Dale Cooper finally find peace. Unfortunately the events of Season 3 deny Laura and Dale their peace. The last image we see is a confused Dale and a tormented Laura.
But maybe this is after the season 3 finale when her scream shatters the entire thing to pieces and Judy has been defeated, and Dale and Laura find themselves back to who they were 25 years ago in the prime of their beauty.

This is an absolute masterpiece, a peak of cinema in all its forms, I mean I get why people would dislike it but David Lynch choose this typical story about a choosen one but with a big plot twist, where this heroic character its brought to the mud and dirt by this evil forces around this universe, he gave us a deeply disturbed human being in the middle of this eternal fight of good and evil and reduce her to the very level of all mankind, making her go through a journey of a desperate will to achieve absolution, which was given to her in this very end, The Return gave us a different kind of Laura Palmer, one who was saved by Cooper and was in this eternal loop of a hero who fails, but FWWM I think its the perfect ending for a character as big as Laura Palmer, mention apart Sheryl Lee, she gave one of the most epic performances in such a young age, everything in Twin Peaks universe is worth of recognition and admiration.
