Wow!! This lady never fails to give goosebumps when I hear her sing. A duet of this with RagnBone man would be out of this world.
I love the calmness in the beginning, and how the intensity slowly comes in as the song further goes on.
It is difficult for me to explain as no native English speaker how I can understand every single word of every single song that James sings. Leave alone the mastery she put on it.

The first time I saw Morgan was the Postmodern Jukebox video, All About That Base. That must have been so much fun to do. Every since then I have been a fan. I love her simplicity and raw musical talent; she is such a breath of fresh air.

This is definitely one of my favorites among the many that Morgan James and the guys have covered over the years. Morgan, in case you still read these, you are the most talented singer I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. It’s not just the control you have over your instrument, it’s everything that goes into it as well. From the outfits you wear, the way you carry yourself and perform, and the way you sing with such emotion and from the heart leads one to not have any choice but to believe that you have lived every word of the song, ripped up the t-shirt and came back even stronger. Bravo! THIS, is real music!

This is an interesting take on the song. Whereas the original had a more defiant tone, this version sounds more… sad; more internalized emotions. Both are wonderful renditions.

She's a blues/soul singer so her style tends to bring a more emotional perspective to the music. You should check out her other stuff. She does a great Melissa cover by the Allman Brothers. Even if you're not a fan, it's a great rendition.

Every sound she makes is deliberate, shes not over darkening, or over brightening but shes colouring her tone appropriately. She’s definitely trained…

I can’t believe I’m just now stumbling onto this video for the first time. I hope that y’all are still playing together, I haven’t checked your channel yet to see if you’re still making music together. This was awesome, rhythmically, musically, like y’all FELT those lyrics. It made a lot of everyone’s individual personalities shine and how y’all interact with each other as a group it was fantastic. That was so raw and so real and that voice was just amazing.
I found her through Post Modern Jukebox, along with a heap of other singers that I otherwise never would have found. You should check them out, and listen to Haley and Robin as well - Morgan and Hayley also do an amazing version of Dear Prudence.

If u love mesmerizing or unique performances I would recommend diana ankudinova she is 17 this year but she is unique and talented.

I love it. The steel guitar rolled with the accordian + slower pace makes this sound like older blues. Morgan's almost staccato delivery of the lyrics punctuates this giving it a spoken word blue-grass quality. And much respect to Ron, using a stripped down precussion arrangement is ironnically easy to screw up & Ron keeps it on point.

I would only suggest making the instrumental part more pronounced and filling. Morgan's voice fills all the gapes, sure. But there is a tiny step to make it perfect.
Ms. James is a singular talent. She has total, and apparently effortless, command of her instrument.

What an interpretation of this song! The combination of that soaring voice and those nasty Mississippi slide guitar licks on the resonator with understated accordion and percussion accompaniment are simply chilling. The sound and words penetrate to the gut like a shot of 100 proof.
So pure and so natural voice, and the instruments also.
