  • In the run up to the anniversary, veteran Des Page tells his story of the emotion, horror and camaraderie he experienced during this time. The 91 year old was a Glider Pilot who landed one of the first Horsa Gliders at Wolfheze, near Oosterbeek, on day two of Operation Market Garden.

    I witnessed that for the first time last year at the 75th anniversary service,I was fighting back the tears,such a moving service,remembering all those hero’s of Arnhem

    Ah recognise an old family friend from many years ago ... he knew my dad Alan Webb but not sure whether they flew together or whether they re-unioned together .. whatever he hasn't changed a bit .. remember many happy times with him and his wife Fay. Did a great rendition of Have yourself a merry little Xmas’ RIP Des you were a lovely man

    Great uncle of mine was a glider pilot. Killed on his second day at Arnhem. We need to live our lives mindful of the freedom that the war fought for.
