About Life In Farmland: Our family strives to be as self-sufficient as we can be. We grow a lot of food in the garden, raise or hunt for our meat, cut and use firewood to heat our house in the cold Minnesota winters. We want to know where our food comes from, what goes into it. We strive to live a slower and sustainable lifestyle with family being our first priority. On this channel, you will find a lot of how-tos, shared experiences, recipes, and videos of things we are trying and learning more about.

Way to go friend. I suffer from severe Complex PTSD from surviving Narcissistic abuse. Everyone should be able to talk. Everyone. Good on ya. I farm to burn off the crazy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Great topic Eric, I’m 35 now and being forced to be the man of the house by 17 years old after my father passed away I always felt like I had to carry all the weight that men are expected to carry and it wears you down slowly but surely. I’m an avid outdoorsman and homesteader much like your self and my firewood is very therapeutic aswell as spending time in the woods gathering my thoughts. Thanks for sharing your personal information. It’s important for everyone to know that equality is not all that it seems and men are far underrated emotionally.
Cheers from Canada I’m waiting patiently for vitamin D!!
Ps I’d love to participate in the challenge however just had 3 hernias repaired most likely caused by my firewoodWoodstove business .... 💪🌲

We have had a very difficult few years,my husband lost his Sister oct 2020, I lost my Mommy Nov.2020, we lost our beloved friend Miss Kitty1-8-2021, she was with us 16yrs. she was our child.
I lost my Sister 3-4-21, 2 weeks later my brother was diagnosed with stage 3 bladder cancer. My husband has gone through 2 surgeries back-to-back, he had to have a kidney stone removed that he couldn't pass it was / 6.1 cm. While having a cat scan they also discovered that he had three adominal hernias, he has since had surgery for both and his recovering.
Life hits you hard at times and we both struggle with depression on and off. Thank you for this video Sir, we appreciate it more than you know. Much love ❤

Eric - Great topic and a great discussion - there have been so many advances in neuroscience in the last 20 years - now we know how much mental health is caused by biochemistry. It's not something anyone should feel guilty about or hide or stigmatize, but rather get informed about and manage!

This is a wonderful challenge! I have been watching your channel for a little while and I appreciate your honesty. I have been a nurse for over 20 years now and one of the hardest things to do was to try and reach my Male patients and make them understand it doesnt make you less of a man to acknowledge your hurting inside. I myself suffer from chemical depression and grew up in a household with schizophrenia so mental illness awareness is close to my heart. Thank you for this video, thank you.

It takes a brave man to talk about personal challenges such as this. Society says men are supposed to be strong physically and mentally and men seem to think they have to shoulder worries on their own. Well, I think that's full of bull. We stay strong together when we share the load each has. Good for you to bring this out in the light of day. Perhaps you reaching out will touch someone who is struggling and make their life a little better - at least let them know they are not alone. God bless you and yours. ~Sherrie in South Carolina

I am 66 years old and I absolutely love gardening and I love cutting firewood and enjoying our wood stove.
I have subbed to your channel for a long time and I really like your videos very much.
Thank you for making this video as I feel like this is a subject that needs much more light shown on it. Men do suffer horribly in silence sometimes and many times they will go a whole lifetime having these problems bearing them alone and nobody but them knows it. It should not be that way.
    I can relate.
It sure helps to have someone who cares about you that you can talk to about these things. I hope you are doing okay now.
By the way as much as you enjoy cutting firewood and enjoying your own wood stove I hope that you will make it a point to check out a RUclips account by this man in British Columbia. The account is called Bucking Billy Ray Smith. One of the best most decent men in all of Canada. I have learned so much from him about cutting wood and axes and chainsaws and about just taking life easier and being a good person.
Please spend some time with him and check him out. It will be time well spent.

Awesome video and I recently listened to a radio broadcast in Canada pointed to farmers and rural folks concerning depression and so forth. There is help out there for people and all we can really do is to make them know there are professional people out there that can help. Being that I live in Canada I notice that winters are hard on us whereas the lack of sun can slowly erode any feelings of happiness so I'll look into Vitamin D.

I am a few months late to the game. First time viewer. Men's roles and expectations from society has greatly changed in previous few yrs leaving many men confused. Men have been told since youth to respect females and be polite to grow up and learn women really enjoy the bad boys. Men have been taught to compliment women. Well, today that gets you fired and gets you sued. Many women today dislike men and consider the men their competition. Many women say they are independent and equal to men and qualified to do all the same jobs. But that is not true. Dont believe me, let your house catch on fire tonight and expect a fireperson to carry you down a ladder from second story window tonight. Watch people on aircraft carrier loading heavy bombs and watch who is doing the lifting and who is doing the watching. Watch an episode of Cops tonight and when it all goes down look who is where doing what. I am all for equality. If a woman wants to be a CEO, a surgeon, whatever, gain the skills and do it. Just dont expect to gain the title and position just because you have a vagina. Earn it if you want it. But dont do it at the expense of men. With that rant, know your value men. Keep your world in order. Find what makes you happy. If you find a female that can respect and compliment your world, by all means pursue her. She must respect you and your actions and your world. Always be prepared to walk when she changes. So many will change. You will go far men and be happy and healthy

I've had a pile of rounds sitting on a palette since early last fall... pieces I had deemed too hard to split with my maul, so I was going to try them again with a sledge and wedge. Well, my sledge is broken and I haven't gotten around to fixing it (that motivation thing...). So I decided to just tackle that pile again with the maul. 10 minutes got me 28 pieces split. Nothing too impressive, but this challenge got me out there and splitting again for the first time in months.

put a chopping block under the wood you are going to split and it will split easier. if you notice the wood you are splitting now bounces into the ground absorbing a lot of the impact weight on the wood being split. the chopping block gets beat into the ground but it doesn't let the choped wood bounce. just use the largest diameter of wood you have and then cut it for your height.
