Seriously, if Steve Duda made his own DAW, I'd be interested to see how he could innovate with that type of software. Who's with me?
XM Gaming yes
YES
Great to see Duda having success. Well deserved.
Steve seems like such a cool guy.
Steve Duda Is a BADASS
Damstraight68 Steve Duda was the secret love child of Fabio and Michael Jackson
What happened to the dude😂
this guy has created the vst that will probably replace massive
PLAYBOYD now, I use only serum. I like this synth...
+PLAYBOYD it replaced everything
+g00zik97 true
I've basically chucked massive in the recycling bin now.
Everyone is using Serum now man. I'm gonna stray away from it.
Who thinks Steve should make an FM synth? I'd love to see that. To see visually what is happening with the waveform like he has done here, but with FM stuff, would be amazing. And going from the theme of Serum, I can already imagine what it would look like.
As a completely separate topic: I compared the playback engines of Sytrus, Massive & Serum. I basically played back a sawtooth at an incredibly high frequency (E10) with a frequency analyser open. And even when Sytrus is at the highest quality (x64 oversampling and HQ envelopes enabled), Massive still beats it and Serum beats Massive (slightly) with Serum's oscillator settings being 2x with the maximum being 4x. Massive was set to ultra. The aliasing on Sytrus was embarrassing compared with Massive and Serum.
Not only that, but Sytrus was also the worse in terms of CPU usage inside FL Studio (which itself doesn't handle plugins well in terms of CPU) despite being the worse sound quality.
With Massive, Serum and Sytrus open, without doing anything, my CPU fluctuated between 1 and 2%. When Sytrus was playing, it fluctuated between 6 and 7%. When Massive was playing, it fluctuated between 3 and 4%. And when Serum was playing, it stayed at 2% (at 4x, now and then it would move to 3%).
As good as Sytrus is along with Imagine Lines plug-ins, in terms of what you can do and plug-in power, the sound is generally low quality and uses up way more CPU than it should. I have seen you talk about how everything that other plugins can do, you can do within FL Studio's native stuff. Although true, the sound quality is just bad. And the CPU usage is also just bad.
It is the biggest drawback when comparing Image Line's stuff with other companies.
I am not hating - I love Imagine Line. It was the first DAW I encountered and I still use it all the time. This is me just giving my constructive criticism. It is something I believe Imagine Line should take into account.
+Dom Jarre Since I actually know this is here now:
Serum is an FM synth. It isn't as easy to use as a synth more geared towards FM like sytrus or FM8 for FM purposes. But it can do what they do. And a whole lot more with FM as a result of its WT functionality.
Re: the playback engine stuff:
Neat.
I just did the same test you did and I'm going to guess that you didn't enable "band limiting" on the Sytrus saw at E10. Because when you do that, aliasing stops completely. Even with no anti aliasing. So, major CPU saver there.
Even if we don't take that into account and we work with the assumption that Sytrus' "low quality" sound is real, so what? None of this will matter when it's all an MP3. Even if everyone in the world listened exclusively to loseless audio, less than a fraction of 1% of people would ever know, or could even know.
Even if everyone could know, it still wouldn't matter because Sytrus (and a lot about FL) can do things that nothing else can. Not even weird obscure things that no one actually wants to do. All kinds of things.
If "sound quality" mattered in the grand scheme of things, we'd all be pushing for 192khz 32bit audio as the standard. We've sure as hell got the processing power to do that, compared to the hassle even 44.1khz was when digital sampling was new. But the human music listening public receives absolutely no benefit from that kind of resolution.
What I'm basically saying is I'll take "functionality" over "quality" any day.
But what I'm also saying is Sytrus can actually perform better based on your own tests than Massive or Serum put to the same.
Yes! That would perfect his plugin pack!
Yea serum is a masterpiece
FR BECAUSE FM SYNTHS ARE gonna be great because its specifically mostly for ones who are gonna want to make edm or synth related songs.
Yeah, while it can do FM synthesis the best you can do is double FM which could be better and is nothing compared to the likes of FM8. If serum could also do what FM8 did there really wouldnt be a need to own any other synth.
wow.. what a labor of love.... jeez man, thanks a lot.. you've changed the world. truly.
namaste.
28:21 when seemless makes the fastest bass and then his face is like, "WTF?!"
I think this is the most awesome synth I have ever used..
Steve Duda deserves an international holiday
steve duda is a genius. its awesome to hear him speak.
Hi SeamlessR, Just found your channel. This video is really a eye opener. Thanks for sharing this
Duda's a genius and Serum is the bomb!
Steve has always been an inspiration to me when learning music and IT.
Amazing synth, buying it now. Learnt heaps from this video
Finally! A vid that has Steve (the Creator) going into the deep end! Stoked on this, thank you!
Am I the only one who read Steve Daruda? Internet is starting to fuck up my mind.
ahahahahaha sarude danstorn
Lets Fly To Pluto! Ahh I love looking back at comments talking about shitty memes...Cant wait for in two years time when I see comments about fidget spinners.
God bless Steve!!
Beautiful man, beautiful hair, beautiful synth.
Wish I could see how a VST is built.
+Marvo code.
+Marv You should check out fourier transformations. Imo, that is the heart and soul of this plug. Again...imo.
I know this comment is a million years old, but in case someone stumbles on this comment: a VST plug-in is, for the most part, a software application like any other, but just leverages a well defined interface (ie. the VST for audio & parameter I/O and host communication in order to allow host apps like DAWs to work with it without caring about any of the actual implementations inside the plugin.
Basically a VST plug-in is an application library that implements the Virtual Studio Technology interface, that the DAWs knows how to work with, to receive notes, parameter changes and/or audio, from the DAW and to output audio or midi back to the DAW. Other than that, it's all up to the developer, you could write a VST plugin in pretty much any language that can compile into a DLL with exported methods.
fuck you I want the second parenthesis
A lot of ones, zeros, a lot of water and cement, and some whipped cream on top
Learned a lot from this! Very keen to try it.
I wish it had a arp & step sequencer like the one in Spire.
***** pwned! Serum 1 Dexterr Morgan 0
I'm totally buying this in a few days :)
this....
is..........
next LEVEL!
thank you for bringin' me here KFX Kicks!
I just purchased serum and it's BEAUTIFUL. Seriously, it's my definitive synth.
5:35 i guess they never miss huh
its honestly so good for just learning how synths work. when i first got fl and tried to understand sytrus i just wanted to quit before even starting. soooo many knobs and so little graphic feedback. i think serum even helped me understand other synths more, not in depth or anything, but just the basics and i think thats really cool. splice rent to own for the win haha!
holy crap this is like everything i have ever looked for in a synth.
5 years later this is still awesome
Holy snap, this looks amazing! :D
Just bought Serum today. Seems immensely deep and amazing.
It's terrifying to see how quick seamless can create a sound in harmor lol
Please support Steve Duda and buy the product :D
This is such an innovative concept, paying for it might motivate him more towards making even more awesome plugins!
And if not, it's a good token of apreciation in itself.
Not telling you to buy every single plugin you own (well that would be great, but i understand your situation)
but if you've got a good income, consided supporting those who support us so much :D
you get so many cool guests on man, right on
Good luck Steve! Good that you get to sell a lot of them.
This synth is basically everything now.
True, it's success was unprecedented. It's funny to watch this video now in retrospect when the synth was first launched before it really took off. I'm wondering, since your comment was made 9 months ago, i.e 1 month before the free synth Vital was launched, your thoughts on that synth also?
what a symphatic guy. gun buy dat
duda is a genius!!
serum is the best synthesizer of all time ever
2:55 "It wasn't sort of like Oh let me make something that competes head-to-head with massive", but still you made something way better than massive: the (almost) perfect Subtractive Wavetable Synthesizer.
I know it's a little late but congratulations to your success, Steve!
It's crazy what monster these Xfer dudes, Steve and them, have created. Much respect to them! And Kanye - buy yourself a license man!
*****
incorrect! steve talks about getting help from others for implementing the user interface + xfer is co-owned by deadmau5.
Serum really is an everything synth
Niice, I missed watching these!
Thank you Steve Duda! you have just unleashed the Synth head's wet dream!
5 years later and Serum is still king of the hill as far as not only synths, wavetables but also oscillator playback, even its sample playback beats many pure samples. It's funny because the new marketing for Serum says it to "Future Proof" your sound. In a world where software becomes quickly outdated Steve seems to have been decades ahead of his comp.
Great Synth, no Fantastic synth, no galumptious synth well worth the money sounds amazing so easy to use extremely in depth and the UI is a work of art. This is what developers should aspire to. A real Game changer! 11 out of 10 :-)
I've got loads of single cycles I'm gonna throw at this beast. Just downloaded the demo a minute ago.If it works well this is getting bought. Amazing piece of kit
by the look of it.
Steve Duda is an absolute genius.
Holy shit! Nice guest!
I love steve duda's attitude.
Steve Duda doesn't sound like I expected him to sound
What'd you expect? I figured every producer pretty much knew him by now.
@Freshold That comment was 5 years old
"There's nothing less inspiring than a synth that's a wall of knobs." You better mean software here Steve.
steve duda puckin' Genious =]]
awesome video man subscribing
I was going to buy massive as my bass vst but now im going to buy serum. I'm sold on this one!
thx, cool video, worth it to watch
When I found out Steve made Serum, I clicked BUY.
Also, in case you need an even bigger excuse to dump massive in the, you can actually import all of massive wavetables into serum's library as well.
i found out that i had a fungus on my leg, and once i got serum it just cleared everything up! thanks duda!
The God Steve!!
steve is so professional he had to pick up the call midst sitting in the sauna
Seamless, I haven't checked so if it's available, my bad, but is their a video that explains the automation behind Serum?
I like his personality
PROBABLY THE ONLY PLUGIN ILL BUY
Cool video!
29:20 note to self what the reverb filter does
hey +SeamlessR , can you recommend be a proper processor, my cpu goes off when i run plugins(two of them are serum and massive) and play multiple midi, effects etc? im tired of bouncing my files often.
36:18 he said he "stumbled upon the source" to Dimension Expander made by "some third party guy" but all I could find was a KVR thread talking about how it works and Steve promoting his version of Dimension Expander. Does anyone have the source he's talking about or a link to it?
This might be the first vst I buy ha
Me too. I've pirated FL and 24 plugins.
Slabeddi NoSurname
Everyone has
I recommend buying whatever DAW you use, eventually. Support the developers! It's at least a good place to start.
Kisses 13 I haven't ya pirating sons' a bitches.
AcidicFriend I dont believe you
Uhh where is SeamlessR Live 30 and 31?
I didn't know the reverb orignally came from TAL that's cool. Steve should gobble up Chris from AirWindows Non Lin Reverb for an update that be great in replicating 80s sound
When I record a sound from harmor into edison and then drag into Serum like in this video, the wavetable sounds glitchy and choppy.. Not smooth like in this example. Any ideas why?
ticallionstall Do that cross fading stuff. Also, don't have pitch changing or any effects in harmor.
Ultra cool!
Nah, why would I use Massive if I have Serum instead?
If I got Serum, I would totally make a bigroom track with GLassLid 4 as the lead.
*Shut up and take my money!*
24:00 FYI, steve, I believe Zebra 2 allows you to draw waveforms. I'm pretty sure it's one of very few that does that, along with Serum. Also, Serum looks amazing.
Also, I'm pretty sure Serum is gonna be HUGE with the new wave of dubstep producers. So you're gonna be like, rich, lol.
holy shit the Lance thackeray the one who designed the cheese head for deadmau5?
no introduction? wow
plug in doctor is the phase analyzer
You know, the funny thing is I was about to start coding the same thing. With exact set of features - visual envelopes, custom wavetables and shit.
Haha, well i've been fantasising for a synth ALOT like this for a very long while aswell.
It all started with the idea of writing osc's and fading through them.
I couldn't be happier for this to exist! I am so excited to use this!!! :D
"was"
my next purchase: this ^
Is this VST released or this this just kind of a demo thing?
It's available to buy and demo at www.xferrecords.com/products/serum/
It's released. I bought it today.
Thanks Sancus
congrats to the people that can afford this lol
well maybe for you "its just $130"
darude - sandstorm
***** Massive is $250, Harmor is $300 or something like that. Just wait till it's cracked anyway, pleb.
You pirates are the BIGGEST shitcunts.
Dont give a care in the world about he time and effort people put into their software.
Steve even said the process has been 10 YEARS lol with 3 years full-time, and you actually wait fr it to be stealable.
Thats the lowest
Mania You have a point. But why spend a crap load of money on something, when you might not make it anywhere in life accept a shit job. If you can't afford software Ex: FL, and Serum. If you put the commitment in music like seamless and other big artist do, then buy it. If you got a dream you shouldn't let money get in the way. When shit actual starts to happen, and you start to get money. Make sure you fucking buy the shit you pirated. It's only fair, because you're dream may not happen. That's why you always have a backup plan. But some people don't always have that. So bad crap starts to happen.
while this is still an amazing synth 10 years later, you would think it would have more fl integration by now
Guys I haven't harmor and serum. What should I choose ?
Thanks for answer ;)
both?
lol :) Seriously, what is the best ?
ARTEX Music For now I would recommend using Harmor as there is more support + tutorial content for it available on the internet. Also, learning about addictive + subtractive synthesis with Harmor would be beneficial before moving on to FM and wavetable-type stuff, if you haven't yet!
Landon Strain Thanks man for the council, I think I will buy harmor for my next project :D .Check out my channel !
I own both.. I have way more experience with harmor .. and I would choose harmor but it's mainly becuase it takes up WAY less CPU usage.
so Basically Xfer Serum is Built Towards EDM (in general) Growls?
You can make classic grand piano or organ sounds if you want. It's just that they are giving 1 example in this demonstration but you can make any sound you want.
it's built for everything lol
That's what I think too when watching videos about Serum. No sound that made me go wow yet.
Fornicras You are right. So much so that most people think Serum is just good for EDM. But it can really do anything you want. Personally I use it for making 80's sounds for synthwave. Strangely there are very few RUclips tutorials for making this kind of sound.
NanoCake it can do everything, but yes most commonly used for growls.
Dudee! this means you could take noise taken from a snare and create your own snares! :D
You just opened up an orgy of new ideas. Thank you!
yep and the ADSR function looks amazing!
Hey a fellow KP member! ahaha
Eyyy ;D
Or... you can just make your own snare in Sytrus. Or whatever 6 operator synth you have would work too. I just like Sytrus. O.o
25:23 YES!
seamless´ brain overcharged lollllllllllllll
This was great to watch. But some parts playing with the synth while Steve was talking almost felt kind of rude/distracting 29:20
Need two sets of arms for these synths, play with two, twiddle with two.
I don't know how to automate Serum's pitch in Fl Studio. Does anyone know how to do that?
Click on the pitch button, then go to tools, last tweaked, create automation clip
Enjoy:)
Ye I did that but it didn't work. It does with sylenth though.
Then press Control J to enable the multilink to controller or just enable it clicking left click on it( it's in the top of FL interface and it has an old controller icon..where all the icons are shown like the metronome and piano keyboard enable, it's the last from right at the bottom) then you right click on the multilink after you enabled it and click on create automation clip...IDK if you've understood if not PM me I'll try to explain better:)
That's also not the problem. It only automates the range of the pitch. I don't know why. but thanks.:)
Terror404Official But the mod wheel does work. so I will have to work with that.
two people that are fundamentally smarter than me.
All I have to say is 31:45
Heh, his "gooey" designer.
Serum, again!??!
***** wat
I see you deleted my comment about the poor oscillation playback quality and poor CPU usage of Sytrus.
That was probably Steve.
The Short Vlogger How could it be Steve when it is Seamless' youtube channel? And I am talking about Sytrus. Not Serum. Serum outweighs both Sytrus and Massive.
+Dom Jarre I didn't delete it. It was marked as spam. I put it back.
Also lol my name's Steve too.
+SeamlessR TIL
Batman!? You're here too!?
it would be better that steve holds the mouse :)
my fl studio version doesnt have these, sylenth or serum. those are kinda mandatory nowdays lol.
21:00 loool
wow, so jealous!
