Found your channel by accident, and sure glad I did. As a young teen aged in the early 1960’s I had the good fortune to spend many hours with a friend of my Dad’s that worked in the CCC camps and was a fire warden in Michaux State Forest back in the 1930s. Watching these videos bring back many of the Sunday jaunts as we called them with my Dad and his friend John. Lots of history here in Pa that I learned about from this friend of my Dads. He had boxes of arrow heads he found all over Pa. Glad you are keeping the Pa history alive, Thank You.
Very nice! This is a beautiful area - Caledonia is full of so many pretty trails & history - we love it there! Keep making memories & adventure on! ~Karen & Shannon WOY
Thanks Cliff I really enjoyed that thanks. Btw 100oF is 38oC. Love the stonework in those furnaces. Lovely area to hike. Thanks for taking me along. Please stay safe and take care
Thanks Cliff it's been years since I camped there with my Boy Scout troop back in 1966 I have used Rt 30 many times to travel to Somerset Co. They most likely built a hearth , and when they used all the wood near it, They built another hearth with the woods around it , and so on.
That's one of the few trails I can say I did before you. I did it last fall. Someone told me that it was only a mile long, it's almost 3 miles but it's beautiful.
Thanks for the history and hike Cliff. There are a few schools named for him in the USA. One I know of is closed now, I remember walking past it, I went to another school 1/8 mile away in the early 50's, it's closed now too.
That first hill is no joke, especially on a hot day. It's a lot steeper and longer than it looks when you start out. Very humbling for those that think they're in shape before they try it.
I'm 80 in November so I let Cliff do all the real hiking for me while I walk around my 0.8 mile no outlet neighborhood once a day. I may start going around twice. LOL
I came across by accident as well, and i am also very happy i did. Ive been watching your videos nonstop for 3 days now ...lol...i grew up in western PA and spent MANY days in the woods and i miss it living in Nebraska now...thank you so much for doing these!!!
Went to the Beckley Furnace in Canaan Ct last week. They used marble as another source of limestone along with charcoal and ore. Thanks for this series.
Greetings from Sierra Vista Arizona! We too have heat but.....it's "dry!" LOL 😂 I'd want no part of the humidity I would imagine is part of Pennsylvania weather.
I've lived near, picniked and hiked in Caledonia State Park most of my life and never saw that waterfall empty like that. Wth 🤔 It's always been loud and flowing and even splashing on the road at times. That canal built along the trail was always full too, even in August.
Trail was nice. I always like it when you keep the camera rolling as much as possible. I get more of a feel for your actual hike.
Jesus. A Wellspan advertisement in the peace and tranquillity of the woods. Amazing. 😑
Beautiful Walk 🥰
Between Cliff's laid back demeanor and the excellent content this is fast becoming one of my favorite channels.

This is one of the furnaces I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing yet. Thanks for this glimpse into your adventure learning our states rich history.

The elevation is about 1,000 ft but a steep hike.

Always nice to see a video in my neighborhood. Just walked this trail the other day. Thanks for the cool PA content.
Nice trail but a hot day for a hike. Looked like a good day.
The sea turtle thing was for a summer reading program scavenger hunt activity the public libraries were doing in parks this year 🙂
I've passed by Caledonia State Park several times heading for Gettysburg, but have yet to stop there.
Thank you for telling the iron furnace's history and for taking folks on the hike. Great video. Not sure about the sea turtle sign.

The channel bringing water to a mill or waterwheel is called a "leet". I think it would be the same here.
Awesome channel bro
❤🦶
I believe the ccc camp built a small replica out of stones of the original furnace. This present structure never operated.
You just don't meet anyone named Thaddeus anymore. Cool name.
