Agree--but a book like the Bible is so frequently referenced that you're bound to miss a lot of allusions if you don't have some familiarity with it. I'd say that's true of the Greek and Roman myths, too--which, coincidentally, is the subject of my Substack post coming out later this afternoon: betterbookclubs.substack.com/
@@BetterBookClubs it could also be argued that the Bible is so ubiquitous in western culture that you don't actually need to have read the whole thing in order to have a good working knowledge of biblical references.
I starting reading classic works a few years back.I figured that if millions of people over centuries found them worthwhile. They were probably worth my time. It was like having a giant vetting/ recommendation system.I only have so many moments and I don't want to spend them thoughtlessly. I see it as a reading journey, not an end goal.I'll probably reread a lot of them. I like to read through them myself then see what other people thought of the work. Forget well read. Think reading traveler one path leads to another in the process you become "well read" meaning well traveled.
I would very much appreciate a series of videos on how to effectively read and take notes on a book club book or just my own personal reading. I certainly know how to take notes at a uni level but that’s what is making it difficult. I don’t have the time or inclination to make such extensive notes. Something streamlined but still helps to dig deeper than if I didn’t take notes at all.

For someone who is a reader you seem to be promoting and pushing us to watch the establishment news are truthful and independent media as untruthful. Sorry but right then I stopped watching your video. Sad state of affairs .........
To be clear, that chart is from the League of Women Voters, which is a credible, nonpartisan source of information. I'd be interested to see other charts on media bias from reputable organizations if you know of any!
