This video contains story spoilers! My thoughts are based only from Main story quests and that time spent with the characters. Who is your favorite character?
21:11 I get what you mean about Malos not feeling like the main villain. He was always following someone elses ideals. His destructive impulse to end the world came from Amalthus, and he followed Jin as second in command during the main game. Even as an Aegis he was always a follower, even wishing he'd met Rex sooner at the end of the game.
Van dam, I don't even know how to write it, but the guy had a very cool ending. He sacrificed to give back her courage to mythra. I think that scene was pretty cool. I like van dam a little more. Other than that, my list could have been the same.
mostly agree with this list, mine would’ve probably looked very similar after my first playthrough of XB2 but after 4 playthroughs I would rank quite a few characters higher and some slightly lower, you truly get to notice the depths in relationships and especially their roles some characters have only after appreciating the whole world that the game offers. Or maybe its just that XB2 is my favorite game of all time
Dughall in "Who" tier?? He was one of my favorite villains because of his overly emphatic gestures. "You cannot argue with such logic!" 😅 Nia is my favorite character in the game too. I thought she was the most relatable, and her down to earth skepticism was much needed especially with someone like Rex as the lead protagonist. And she always seemed to be involved in the funniest scenes as well as having an interesting story arc of her own
@SolitarySaturn dughall is also the guy in Torogoth who towards the beginning, scolded his subordinate for capturing Nia instead of Pyra, and for not knowing that Emerald is green. He also greeted Morag who was unimpressed with him when she first arrived.
I have the same top 3, but in a different order. As for Malos, he's deeper than he lets on. He puts on the facade of being evil because it's his nature so he has to destroy everything. Malos is not that different than Mythra. They are both information processing units that take in the data of the world. The difference between them is their human bond. Malos bonded with Amalthus, who already hated the world, and that hate combined with data that shows human are constantly killing each other over land and resources led him to conclude that humans want to destroy each other. It is the wrong conclusion, but it was the initial conclusion he had. After he was defeated by Mythra and met with Jin after he lost Lora, Malos was in a state of questioning himself. In Jin, he saw how society has failed him. Malos formed a connection with Jin, the first real connection he had because we all know Amalthus only saw him as a tool. Malos hated the world for letting Jin fall into the state he is, and he also hated himself for being born as a weapon of destruction. He just doesn't want to show that side of himself to his foes, but when he's with Jin, his true thoughts come out. Malos questions if his actions and opinions are really his. Ultimately, Malos decided that, even if he was wrong, that his decision was the choice he made together with Jin.
Best character and best written character both in S tier? Good list but my man Aquila Paronet Sol Esteriole deserves better than C😭 Also I wanted to ask if you plan to finish future connected soon or if you are going to jump straight to 3
The problem with Dromarch is that he never gets into pesonal stuff. We know nothing about Dromarch. To some degree that's the blade system to blame. Blades have no memory. So he is who he is just since Nia awakened him. He has very few things to say, really. Blades in this game depend exclusively on their personalities. So they HAVE to be over the top or they go unnoticed. That's why Poppy is cool. And that's why Mythra and Pyra are so much over the rest. Because they have a past.
Jin is my fav emo boy and yes my fav of all characters in X2. 🤔 Other characters I like are Nia, Poppi, Zeke, Pyra, Addam and Azurda ( the young one). Malos is ok. I do know who I hate though...Amalthus.. yeah the source of all evil imo. I understand Myrtha more after I finished Torna but between Pyra and Myrtha, I still like Pyra. Rex...well, I like him in Future Redeemed but not here...same with Shulk when I'm playing XCDE.
Mahlos is not the main villain. The main villain is either Amalthus or the arquitect (the world being the "villain"), or there's no main villain. But in the end everyone is relatable. Nobody acts out of pure selfishness, they are just wrong or desperate. Mahlos is desperation, like Amalthus, for teh role of humans, blades and the fading of the world.
Overall, Xenoblade 2 is a good game but it has some problems. Story design is a problem. They put a lot of stuff together but they distributed the situations over a lot of characters. That weakened the impact and reduced the perceived value added by every character. You didn't care about some relatively important character and cared more about characters with very little value to the story. You didn't remember the names of some characters that had a lot of screen time. Those are problems. Not yours. For the game. Less characters but with more relevancy would have been better. I feel like they went for that in X3. The more I see about Xenoblade 2, the more I think about how much better x3 actually is. And that game also has a few problems. Xenoblade 2 is just too experimental. For the good and the bad.
With Tora the problem is that he is quite a despicable sexist hidden behind a cute mask. Not just about his weird relationship with Poppy (or the fact that Poppy represents a child by the way, maybe you didn't notice because you didn't unlock her final form). It's also the way he speaks to Pyra about how to be a woman and some other dialogues. Tora is a residue from a different time of anime. Some may like him for that reason. I do not. That stuff has made a lot of damage to a few generations.
Malos is boring, he is just evil. Pure black and white, no nuance, no hidden desires. Jin was a broken soul, torn between hate and hope, but too weak to face his inner conflict, until Rex showed up.
Play Torna if you haven't SPOILERS below I thougth Malos was just evil, but then I started to think more about it, and in my vision, he is a character which doesn't know his proposal, he thought he was made by the Architect to just destroy the world because Amalthus made he thinks like this. But with the time, he started to questioning, why? Things stopped to make sense for him. He was lost, then he met Jin, but now in a poor situation, where he was also lost, and Malos sympathyted with him, and saw how dependent Jin was on Lora, started to questioning, why Blades must live for humans? And started to try to reach a better world for blades to live and blades only. And having power to confronte the Architect, who is the guilty for how the world works and somehow change the world was now his goal.

Nia by far, but Pyra and Rex are tied for 2nd

Mythra beating Pyra is perfection
Always good to see a Mythra enjoyer

Where you do encounter Dughall in the story? I genuinely can't remember
You fight Dughall after freeing Nią from prison in Gormott just before fight with Morag and Bridgid

You are absolutely right, Nia is best girl. But Pyra is too.
i love poppi, i hope you return to the game and do the side quest to unlock her 3rd form
"We'll beat you with the power of friendship" -Rex.
