  • Reader Rabbit: High Flying Act (various release dates are listed on various sites: either 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010 or 2011) is an interactive book app by Riverdeep for the LeapPad and PC. This is an interesting game, because it's one of the last few 'true' Reader Rabbit games before the main series of edutainment games ended (although this game was re-released by Encore Software on Nov 2020). Most of the games that came out after this were spinoffs; the last Reader Rabbit game is Reader Rabbit Jumpsmarter, a platformer game for iOS and Apple TV released in 2018.
In this playthrough, I try to click on everything I see, although sometimes I go back if I missed a clickpoint or two. Apologies for the cursor showing up, as well as the abrupt cuts; I'm working on fixing that for future playthroughs.
Plot: Reader Rabbit and Sam are doing a circus act, but their plank breaks, so the duo get a new one by earning prizes through various games at the fair and trading them to the Pirats for a new plank. The Pirats aren’t causing trouble for the duo this time, so it’s a simple task.
Review: It’s a fun little book due to the various optional activities included, as well as the thinking questions, but it’s made in Flash, so the audio quality of the voices goes down dramatically as a result, and in the music you can hear various Windows XP sounds, so I think they just recorded the music off an XP computer instead of using the original file? :P There's also unused stuff in the white bars that I show off. Also, apparently the learning questions you get at the end of the book, the first time you play, are always the same and never randomized. You get different questions the next time you go through the book, though, which you can see at the end.
I also experienced a funny glitch while playing; if you click on one of the prizes at Spike's cart while Sam is spinning the wheel, the wheel disappears and you have to restart the game to play the activity on that page. :P
Also, at first I found the activity on the second page a little confusing, but soon I got it. :P
Oh well, at least Pearl returns to the Pirat crew and gains a nice redesign. I believe this was made when The Learning Company was in financial trouble; edutainment games were getting less and less popular at that time. There were apparently two other books (Sam's Sweet Surprise and The Great Word Chase) but I can’t find them anywhere!
    Hope you enjoy!
