So its time to have a go at the old Fluke 75. I bought in a repair kit from the USA so see how I got on / radiocruncher . Have a look at my new website radiocruncher.com www.paypal.com...
I have had my Fluke 75 since 1979. I worked for Digital Equipment Corp as a field technician fixing PDP and VAX computers. My Fluke was an integral part of my toolkit. I saved my toolkit from those days, and rwcently found my trusty fluke in that toolbag. I flipped the switch to the ohms setting, and the freaking thing turned right on! I was like holy shit! Do they use a nuke battery in there? That is a true testament to the meter and the battery they chose to use. That must be why its so intrusive to change the battery. If it lasts 40 years, I guess its not an issue!!
That just blew me away. Now I see they use Areocell 9V, screw duracell. I am going Aerocell all the way from now on!
They are very well made meters and were expensive back in the day. Aero cell is the Lidl own brand battery isn’t it?
I've had my Fluke 75 Series II since around '91. Still my favourite, but the fuses cost an arm and a leg and the resistance always reads between 0.4 and 1.5 Ohm at zero. May need some new probes, or a good clean.
Yes those fuses are expensive. We used fused leads in it back in the day
Thanks this helped me fix my fluke 87 with missing digits in the display. Just took apart and cleaned the display contacts with vodka and put back together. Works like new now saved having to send away for service.

I had a problem with my fluke 11, which was intermittent, and all the cleaning and replacing of ribbons did not work. I finally lost my patience and decided to reflow the solder on the pads that you cleaned. I used a lot of flux and did a resolder job on it, and it worked! I know your problem of fading display is different, but just in case someone has the intermittent bug like I did, remember that when all else fails, losing your patience can work out fine.
Sounds like that might be worth a try. Did you use lead free or leaded. Maybe silver solder even?
Radiocruncher : Just normal lead-free. I was really at the end of my tether, and actually believed I was going to trash the multimeter, but lo and behold, it worked.

Aliexpress are selling them for about 40US. Might aswell buy a new cheap meter. Btw. While u repair throw a backlight in. The display is quite crappy and could have done with one from the get go.

I've just been told by Fluke that I can trade my old 75 in on a new meter. They didn't say how much they'd give me for it. I'm going to clean the circuit board before I give up on it.
That's very good of them. Let us know what the trade in value is
U1 drives the lcd directly from what I see on the schematics, also takes care of some psu duties. Could try and mod the supply (I see some resistor dividers in there) to up the voltage a little.. more drive voltage would make digits more readable (add a little ghosting too maybe).

Hi,My Fluk23 was 1 week in our a car at -10 - 15°C and the display became as yours pasty/pale/ figures.

You've got a screw missing, which is why that spring's such a pain.
Remove the large fuse; there should be a small self tapper holding the board into the bottom casing.

Are you sure it’s not millivolts as 3 volts with nothing connected is way too high
@@Radiocruncher it is 3 volts . It is a Snap On Vantage MT2400 graphing multimeter . In the digital multimeter mode it reads three volts with minor fluctuation . I'd be thinking ghost voltage if it we're millivolts . The battery was low and I put new strong batteries in it and still get three volts .

I have an Fluke 111 and it also have the same Problem that i Show some voltage without any wire pluged in.
So i want to only clean the contacts from the Displays on the big circuit Board with WD-40
You can’t destroy it by following this video exactly. Don’t spray WD40 anywhere near it. You must only use isopropyl alcohol as I have done. Good luck and I hope it fixes it for you
Fluke DMMs from that era carry a lifetime warranty. Why not contacting them ?

Hi Luis. There’s no supplier that I know that keeps stock for the old Fluke meters. Your only hope would be a donor set. Regards Graham
@@Radiocruncher I was looking for if someone sold any multimeter for parts, but I can't find where. I have also thought about 3D printing the "white piece" of plastic that holds the contacts on the rotary switch but I do not have the exact measurements since it is in very bad condition .... So far I have managed to measure VCA and VDC the only drawback is with the ohms and diode scale functions both are dead (if you turn on but do nothing. Greetings
@@luis11347 sounds like you have a battery issue then. Have you traced the voltage from the battery into the meter?

I thought the same. the battery is replaced with a new one. I have followed the voltage and everything is in order. Previously, I had the two diodes shorted, which have already been replaced. Since the rotary switch pins are in poor condition I have chosen to clean them with WD40, once they are clean I am going to straighten them out. I have also tried to shape the plastic part of the rotary switch a bit to see if I can copy the part. greetings 🖖

Before you go to the trouble of looking for a new display you can get a new Fluke model 12E+ that has the same ranges from China via Aliexpress for about $70 with free shipping.

Fluke makes nice stuff maybe its time to treat yourself to a new one ,and that ones been around longer then most,I wouldnt be happy either ,I always wanted a fluke ,I seen some good deal on ebay
Hi Ron. Its working fine now after replacing the polarising film. I bought myself an Agilent meter now though so this one is my backup
if the fluke gets an shorted output check the cap above the small shield on the board and be 1 k fusibel input resistor on the right because i got an fluke 77 from work with that problem in case yors develop the same problem as an small tip
You can repair this display, just by re-orienitate the filter glass (I don't know what this filter glasses are called), but I 'm sure you can do it
My Fluke 75 S2 has started fluctuating readings when on DC Voltage even with no test cables in. Is there a away to calibrate it back to 0?
Hi Adam. You will need a voltage reference and the service manual in order to calibrate it
You ever find yourself a donor? Got one here that doesn’t power on.... but likely the large fuse. Mine actually has a spare little fuse insid the front cover. Anyway, thought you might wanna have it. I have n old HK Reciever I feel the same way about so...

hi. would a mucky fluke 77 mk 2 be a compatable donor the display looks identical and the display is good, you are welcome to it if another solution hasn't been reached allready. great video's by the way.

Is there a contrast pot or resistor values you can tweak?

My digital multimeter continuously beeping whenever I put it in contenute mode.and other testing options also not working it showing battery signal on display.noted that 9volt battery which used to power on the multimeter that was finished and by mistake I was replace that battery with 19volt power source after that the problem was starts. My multimeter is very cheap there is no fuse in it circuit so please help me to solve this problems. The model of that multimeter is kros-s DT830D
I suspect that you have damaged the IC’s by over voltage. As it’s a cheap multimeter I would just replace it as you don’t want to be testing voltage with a damaged meter

Careful if you order a Fluke On ebay , I got a made for chinese Fluke and Fluke said it not one of theirs, so my warranty didnt count for shit, my backlight kinda quit working right , I tried to get help from Ebay and PayPal but there are humans that I able to reach , because of the covid 19 virus .I guess I picked a wrong time to buy on ebay , or try to get help from either ebay or Paypal.If anyone no how together service from either company please let me no , I was told in the past not to return clones so they cant resell them but I am stuck wi th ha chinese model Fluke that c ou dt me a pretty penny .I be glad when this covid virus is over so I can get some customer service .
Sorry to hear of that Ron. I suppose your claim should be against the seller. If it’s a fake then a Fluke won’t want to know

Kailash Khairnar this is part 1. The usual cause of display problems is the rubber connectors so this would sort a lot of the issues with these. Check out part 2. Thanks for watching
