Haha! Yeah!! I am extremely thankful of those that agreed to participate, they made the video a lot better! I really wanted to get this one right since so many people love this game.
This was by far the clearest explanation I've found on here. Thank you for actually DEFINING the terms before you started using them! Literally 3 other videos I've watched they immediately started jumping into using terms like bids and tricks that a beginner wouldn't understand.
galiffrey1 at our family gatherings black folks usually play spades or dominos & we start at an early age. So when a black person says they don’t know how to play spades they’re usually laughed at & everybody’s confused as to why lol
Navy rules are typically: Joker/Joker/#2 Spade/Ace; team bidding; Cant cut on first trick; Blind nil gets 1 face down card trade with teammate; Reneg ends the round with the cheating team losing their bid, and the other team taking their bid; A false Reneg call will end the game and your team will lose their bid; cant bid 9, or 11-13 books; bidding 10 books nets you with 200 points ("10 for 2").
These are the rules I learned in Baltimore. We also call everything a “book”, I don’t remember every hearing of tricks. I’m 25 years out so things may have changed.
I am a 35 yr old black woman from South Philadelphia, PA and I do not know how to play SPADES & I am very ashamed I have had the desire to learn now lol smh what have I been doing all my life This video is amazing now I feel alil confident to play a hand at the next cookout lol thank you so much for the clarity
Another type of nil bid is called the "blind nil bid." If a player bids this special number, he must make this bid before looking at his cards. If a player makes the blind nil bid and doesn't take any tricks, he scores 200 points for his team. But if he takes at least one trick on the blind nil bid, he loses 200 points for his team. The blind nil bid is a very risky move though...
8:58 I looked up how to play spades for fun and for me the lowest we can bid is 4 we can’t bid any lower everything else is about the same but for the sandbags you get 1 point for going over but if you get 10 overs there is a 0 at the end obviously and you lose 100 points for 10 overs
This is a serious game in the black community. We serious about our spades. I’m the only one if my siblings that can’t play. I’m not mad though, because they learned how to play in jail! Lbvs So that explains why I can’t play so that’s why I’m here. I’m still not following though
If I am a camera on the ceiling looking down, to the left of the dealer starts first but he did not use left cards. He went right side. What am I missing?
So if a person was to lead with spades the strategy is to hopefully make enemies lose a bid card..force the hand kinda deal... I'ma throw out my ace of spades now whole field gonna have*** to throw away a spade if they have it..?
Ryan, yes. You must follow the suit lead card if you can, even if it’s a spade. Failing to do so would mean you’ve reneged. So you are right, you should be strategic about when to lead with one.
I'm a total novice when it comes to spades and my family takes spades very seriously. For clarification purposes, when you started over and gave another example at 5:09 what if that person played another card other than clubs such as a king of hearts. Now you have three different cards on the table: - the lead suit which was clubs -the king of diamonds -the king of hearts From what I understand, at this point doesn't matter because the main suit is clubs correct, so whoever has the highest club will take the "book"?????? Obviously this would be disregarded if someone threw out a spade and "cut" everyone
Okay, say the person to my left throws out a 10 of clubs. My partner throws out a 9 of spades. The next person throws out a club. I have no clubs and all my spades are higher than a 9. My partner has already won the trick, basically, and i don't want to cut him. Can't i just throw out a low card from another suit? Like a 4 of diamonds?
You got it! That’s correct. In that situation, where the person to your left lead with clubs and you have no clubs, you are free to play any card. It doesn’t have to be a spade. In fact, if you did throw a spade right then your partner might be annoyed. 😝
I am just now getting back in the game. During the pandemic people were playing around the clock. Back in the day we had levels master etc. Now it does not offer that and I am getting kicked around losing. I am about ready to give up. I had a jerk player who had 12%. He went blind mil twice causing me to lose two more games. I reported him. What is the best route for me to go without having to quit altogether??)!!! I have asked 3 x and no one has responded
Great video. Next time, please don’t use the cat’s favorite chill spot to display your cards. It’s rude. LOL/JK At 6:55 the cat was like “Hell yeah, I mind!” LOL!
Just a heads up, I've read that the rules in prison are often a little different then the traditional "ace high" spades that I presented here (but I hope this can get you started).
These videos are the best that I've found for explaining games to kids. I work at an elementary school and have been teaching 2nd through 5th graders how to play various games. However, when the video contains profanity or questionable language, I can't use it. Please remove the language from your videos, or offer a "clean" version, so they can be used by all ages. Thanks.
@Nomad Tao I think Spades is one of those games that is hard to explain. In fact, it's common for players to refuse to teach people that doesn't already know how to play. I saw some other tutorials that were very confusing, so that is why I took my time and went through everything bit by bit. So, it may seem like a lot, but once you start playing it will all suddenly make sense! I think this game is popular because there is so much room for strategy and exciting surprises. When someone dominates at Spades, people get HYPE!
It's truly all the shit talking that goes down while playing. I witnessed a mama telling all her kids they should have been titty shots because she was losing. 😂
@@Rulies not sure what its name is in english. Its about placing cards from King to Ace of hearts then diamonds then clubs and then spades, the one to place the last card(ace of spades) loses. If someone places a card but doesnt have the next one, he has to pick a card from the one who has the next card, if you manage to get the card that had to be placed, its still your turn, but if you get another card that isnt the one you had to place, its the turn of that person.
@@Rulies in my school my friends call it "mano sucia" wich means dirty hand but i cant seem to find the version of it in the internet, another card game pops up instead
I play on my phone, and let me tell you, you are only as good as your partner's skill. I have had a couple of partners bid nil with the Ace of spades! Then there's the battle of those who aim to get their tricks, and those who just want to set the other team! Which is more appropriate?
Wellll.. you really can only play this with 4 players at a time. You can have two players sit out, and they can play the winning team. Or.. You could play Spoons instead. That’s a great game for six players. 🥄🥄🥄 ruclips.net/video/9w2bv9wPVqU/видео.html
I love how no one noticed how during the first explanation of bids and game play example.. Dude said Two of ❤s is the lowest in the trick. 🤦🏿 good thing that Two was actually a Five 🤦🏿... Bet dude who made the video didn't even notice lol
Hey Crazyman! Good eye! What I meant was that two is the lowest rank that you can play and ace is the highest rank that you can play. I could have said that more clearly. Thanks for the comment. 👍
Spades people make me laugh cus they’ll yell at you to learn the game but then as soon as they find out you’re not a professional spades player with more than 10 years experience you gotta get off the table. When am I suppose to practice unc ???
I love how the narrator is hella white but has some fly example participants. :)

i'm a 49 year old black man who doesn't play spades, i am the shame of my family. thanks for posting.
It's never too late to learn Scott! It's a really fun game when you get the hang of it.
Same here. I'm a black woman name tyeisha Its expected I know. Lol

Kelley Jones yeah that’s in every family. You get laughed at and then never taught.
Le'mar Moore lol hell yea🤣🤣🤦🏽♂️
I love how the cat laid on the table
Ha! She just does what she wants. 😸
By far one of the clearest videos for a beginner.
This video should be at the top of the list when you search for rules to this game.
I wish! Thanks :)
I feel like if you ask someone the rules of spades you get hit with the "What?! You don't know how to play spaaaaades."
Does the cat also want to play
She feels left out!
Shivangi Mandal 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Covid-19 self quarantine brought me here.

The ppl in the vids look like they are having a blast. I love euchre. I figured learning Spades is next logical step.
At the bottom right of the scoring notebook in the "S" symbol everyone learned to draw in elementary school. How nostalgic!

YAY SARAH!!!!!!! I'm glad someone noticed it!!! :)
Yeah. What did it even stand for lol
More on spades please! ☺️
Thats cats for you lmaoooo
the bowling alley style transitions are awesome

Awesome! Make sure you play with some close friends first! There's a lot of strategy that you can only learn by actually playing.

Good video i suck at spades...i win quite a bit but also lose alot!!! Oh well i love the learning experience😘😘💪💪👊👊👊
I’m a white girl going to a cookout tonight, and I refused to be flamed again for not knowing how to play 😂😩 wish me luck!

Have you thought about poker, blackjack? Would draw in a lot of red Dead views I’m sure haha
Hey that's a really good idea! Many people consider Poker the King of card games!
Frrrr
Man 69k views but only 1k likes??? Someone help my man out!
How long should a game last ? Our first time playing it took us 2 hours to play and still didn’t reach 500points
You all need to step up your bidding game... If you are not making your bids or getting too many bags then you are taking way longer to get to 500
6:00 do I have to put a spade down if they lead with it...after it was broke ofcourse?

I subbed at 9.99k fam I hope you get your bag
Can you come back and teach us all the other ways such as joker joker deuce deuce this is truly he clearest explanation on here
The cat lmao
I play with a high and low joker and 2 of Spades and 2 of diamonds are higher than the ace if Spades. Take out the 2's of hearts and clubs.
Joker Joker, Deuce, Deuce! I plan on making a video just for that style!
Love the cat lol
I'm a total novice when it comes to spades and my family takes spades very seriously. I'm trying to learn some card games in specifically this one. Heard from 24/7 lock down that this a good way to break the ice with inmates in jail

lets go back whoop lol great vid tho
Woop!
What happen if we dont follow the suit and play spade card instead?
I think everyone will agree: just be careful not to renege or your partner will not be happy.....
I used to play this with my cousins but then I forgot how to play
Love the cat cute
Thank you! I love them too, even though they walk on my keyboard while I am editing youtube videos.
that why u have them because they u kids
You are sooo right!
This video just got better because the cat showed up.
seems like too much stuff to keep track of. Not sure I get why its a popular game. Guess I need to actually try it.

Usually its people thinking too much into the game. I think people misunderstand the partner aspect of winning as a collective instead of individuals.
It's truly all the shit talking that goes down while playing. I witnessed a mama telling all her kids they should have been titty shots because she was losing. 😂
THANKS
How about the card game called Hearts?
I play different card games at recess at my school lol
