I so much enjoyed watching this Flora. My motivation? I am 70 years old, and have been running for just three years. I am at a pretty good level of fitness now and go out at least 3, usually 4 times a week, which includes cub runs, a social run group, sometimes Park run and a Sunday long (ish) run. To be fair, I don’t need a lot of motivation. Being alive motivates me 🙂
Sometimes I am motivated by nice weather, by food (especially waffles), by needing to blow off steam, by wanting to be alone with my thoughts, by disappearing down a long trail, by being with friends, by a race, by exploring a new place. Sometimes I run because it's on a training plan. And sometimes, I am motivated to stay in bed a little longer and not run. And that's okay too. Good luck in Paris, Flora!!!
Thank you for this video. I am not a runner. I am an artist. A legally blind artist and I have a rare heart condition. I decided to watch videos like yours because I figured that if I can learn what Motivates runners, triathletes and so on, I can use that same mindset to get out of bed and do what I love. Because my heart beats so fast just getting out of bed, my life is so very painful. There are days I really don't want to get out of bed, but after I look at your videos I am ready to go. I looove this video. I learned so much. I can do hard things. My goal is to get out of bed, stick to a schedule, eat well, and be the best artist that I can be. You are a great inspiration to me. I am going to take what I learned and run with it😅 ok well at least walk with it😂lol. Thank you very much for making this video it was extremely helpful ❤❤❤
Loved all of these!! The only thing that is guaranteed to get me out on the days I truly don't want to go is having a scary/ exciting race on the calendar. I've always been a fair weather runner, and did other fitness activities when I didn't feel like running. Once I started booking races outside my comfort zone, I realized I needed to be more "consistent"... I shudder at the word. 😂 One of my biggest bad@ss moments was coming back from a 12 mile rainy winter run, and needing my husband's help getting my soaked compression leggings off. 😂 He made a comment about how awful the conditions were, and I just laughed it off... he looked at me in amazement and disbelief, and I was like... holy crap, that was ME, I'm a RUNNER!! 😂 It's so great seeing you out tackling long runs with a smile!
Your advice @5:30 in the video, about making yourself go out for 1 KM, and then if you still hate it that much, allowing yourself to go back is brilliant. It is the corollary of some advice that a more seasoned runner gave me right before I ran my first 21K, which was basically that no one, from the first-place winner of the race to the last-place finisher can run 13.1 miles at a time. As a participant in an organized race, be it a 5K or a marathon, always look only as far as your next breath, step, point of reference, block of time (as in intervals), then kilometer and finally the next mile. If you think of how far you still have to go, then the whole run can get messy quite quickly. I'm glad that I saw your latest vlog here, and read the comments below; it's a very supportive channel you have! Best wishes for Paris and beyond!
In 2011 I visited my son who lives near Paddington Station and I used to run at that Park nearby. I cant remember the name of the Park. I did love London, England and the English people! Now what motivates me, first I just love to run and at my age (74) it keeps me fit, mentally sharp, I sometimes run alone in nature and other times I run socially with my running group. A lot of people my age says "I hate running" and that keeps me going.
I had my long run on Saturday in the lovely weather & was greatful I didn't have to go in the rain on Sunday , so well done for braviing that! I will have my longest marathon training run in a fortnight & I think I will head to Richmond, so thanks for the inspiration Discovering new places on foot, even in London, is something that motivates me Having a challenging goal & a plan really helps me get out, & its exciting to be doing a bit more each week & seeing progress Good luck with your marathon Flora ❤
Unfortunately no one in my family or friends run so my motivation comes from watching your videos and I like the information and knowing I am not alone in what I am doing and feeling keep it flora ❤
Fantastic long run, Flora! Your poor white shoes in that big puddle =( ! The two things that excite me to go out for a run - 1st is knowing I can actually complete different types of running (especially the scary anaerobic sessions!) and 2nd is the feeling of being healthier/fitter the following days after the run. Keep up the awesome training! =D
Coincidentally came back from a rain drenched run, although not as long as yours. The struggle for me started the night before. Checking the weather and seeing the forecast for rain along with “Flood Warning”. Uh, oh. It would start at 3 am and continue throughout the day. Showing 100% underneath every single hour of the day. Woke up at 6:30 and looked out the window. Nope, forecast was not wrong. Spent the morning just staring out the window. And staring, and staring….. At 10 am, yes 3.5 hours later, I said F* this and just ran. Came back soaked to the bone, but happy I did it. This video and the Phily Bowden interview video were my post run stretch videos.
Oh, and I wanted to say I like your slogan. It took me right back to one of my favorite scenes from Ted Lasso. There are so many, I know, but I think you know which scene I mean. It’s the one where he says “Barbecue sauce” just before he hits the bull’s eye.
What motivates me is the next new trail to explore. That's why I love to travel around the country to find new trails and places to explore. Keeps me motivated and keeps things interesting and new. That's why I'm excited for my next new place to explore, which is Bristol. Running all the trail you run and talk so highly of, can't wait
Thanks for another super nice film clip. I always really enjoyed running in the rain, snow, wind etc. as well. It's a nice feeling to feel mother nature on your skin. Unfortunately I'm quite injured at the moment and have to take a longer break. But still very nice to watch you. Thank you, Flora
To motivated myself : i just don't think about it an stick to the plan... Like parachute : the first step is often difficult, but once done, you never come back
This was a spectacular video Flora. Thank you. I’m 57 and have been running around 6 years. My motivation is the fact that I have arranged a 100km solo road run. I feel that I have a great deal of work to get to where I need to and if I don’t get out my fitness level will not get to where I need it. I have all of my training runs and distances planned and I love your saying at the end where you’re curious what your body can do. Have a great day.👍😊
I didn't think I was capable of more with my running. This week I changed things up and set a goal of 10k which I managed today. It does help to set a goal as it's something to work towards. I'm not sure 26k is within my grasp but then I didn't think 10k was. Nice one.
Always think, later on in the evening, sat on the sofa watching something irrelevant on tv, how glad do you feel, knowing you made the effort to go for a run, compared to watching some crap on tv, not having run. You will never regret going but highly likely you'll regret not going.
I run a lot of league races and events, but I am always anxious when I enter a half, and then I am always excited but terrified until I do it. Every time.
Great video and thanks for the book recommendation. I agree with your kit comment about being prepared for conditions, as this has been a limiting factor for me in the past. I agree with all of your points and know how experienced you are. Also, the importance of just heading out the door can't be overstated, although sometimes the shock of being out in the cold stinging rain is almost enough to drive me back in side. And don't forget the importance of the possibility of nice weather, as exemplified in your own video: you don't know what the weather might be like at the end of your run, and whatever it is you will be rewarded.
My motivation: to celebrate what my body is still capable of. Previous cancer treatment left me with chronic pain and fatigue but I refuse to let cancer take more from me than it needs to. It does not get to take away my love of movement, the movement I desperately need for my mental health. I am active because I am blessed enough to be able to be active... I am motivated to run because I can! 💖
I’m m motivated by the energy and mental health benefits, all of which I’m missing out on while I wait for my glute to heal 😢 Just got the ok by the physio to do 10 minute walk/ runs though
I remember an old commercial when I was in Scotland 🏴 in school, it was for Barbour and it goes the best British clothing for the worst British weather, so why doesn’t Barbour makes running clothes 😂

Hahah I love this so much! You are TOUGH 💪
Loving to see you back running (& more importantly enjoying!) some longer distances again Flora 🎉

Well done getting out there. Personally I love cold and frosty mornings to get out and run rather than rain
Perfect timing, 9.2km of mile repeats on the schedule today
Oof, good luck!!
Some of my BEST runs are the ones I don’t want to doo…it’s fantastic!!🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️😊
100% to just getting out of the door
Great video

Haha I imagine they'd be quite heavy but very beautiful 😅
Just saw a Fordy Runs video of a long run in a British downpour who also described it as horrific.
haha it can be pretty gross
I haven't been to Richmond park in so long
"i saw it in a cartoon but i think i can do it" NOT CURIOUS LIKE THAT
