I ended up opting for the Speedmaster last year (Goldline edition), but went for mid pegs and straight bars, so effectively a comfier Bobber. Absolutely love it!
I moved the seat on mine back to almost the maximum reach. It made a world of difference for leg comfort. I have a 2018 Bobber Black and I will never get rid of it. I love everything about it.
I absolutely love my Triumph Bobber. I bought mine from a triumph dealership as a used and approved bike. The previous owner kindly fitted a Fox rear shock, which absorbs bumps brilliantly. I can ride for hours in comfort. My only gripe with the bike is the small fuel tank meaning many stops and the headlight. I wish it had much brighter LED. It always gets a crowd at any bike stop because you dont see too many on the roads. The modern retro looks seems to appeal to all bikers I meet. I can't stop smiling whenever I ride it 😁
I own a 2021 Triumph Bobber and am 6'2" with an inseam of 34". I have the floorboards with the heel/toe gearshift, which for me makes a very comfortable position, neither too cramped nor too forward. Triumph no longer seem to offer this option when looking at the configurator on their website, which is a shame. Handling as you mentioned is surprisingly very good for this style of bike. My only criticism is the rather short travel of the suspension, which with a heavy rider like me, and badly maintained road surfaces, occasionally bottoms out. I love mine, and any sunny day we get is an excuse to get out and ride.
Sad that 90% of their bikes, esp 'affordable' one's, are for midget's. Head honcho's at Head office must find it difficult to stare over their desks when standing.
The segment you added at the end was fantastic; I got the same endorphin rush just watching it. A twisting country lane with a canopy of trees overhead on an English summer day. On a beautiful Triumph too. Life doesn’t get any better than this,,,
I haven't ridden the chrome edition, but I have ridden the standard one. I think the most impressive part of the Bobber is that it truly captures the soul essence of an American bobber (say, one built on a H-D Sportster). Not in that it has a rumbling V-twin or anything like that, but in that the rear brake does absolutely sod all to slow the bike down!
I’ve had one from new 2020, apart from the rear shock (changed for a Hagon) I love it. Always gets attention and it’s great fun to ride. If you’re feeling cramped move the seat back! As for not seeing any there’s loads, I was at Bobhead a couple of weeks ago and there was at least 6.
I do like all your videos.. I have watched them for a while now, and I do recommend to friends.. Many of my friends already follow you, so that must be a credit to you and your production skills. Well done Sir, Simon (Lancashire).
Hi just got back from touring northern Spain on my Bobber Goldline edition, using the oxford air cushion seat, excellent for longer journeys ,thanks for another of your informative videos
A lovely looking bike and as a detail I think the Triumph decal on the tank is a nice touch , generally I’m not a huge fan of the chrome editions Triumph are doing but I think that it suits the bobber quite well so overall a nice machine
This is my bike, well a 2018. Love it and wouldn’t trade it in for anything. Seat is uncomfortable as well as rear shock, but that should be upgraded when time and money allows. As for long distance riding, well it takes a solid backside to do it without at least a rear suspension upgrade.
My friends have adventure bikes but I pick up my bobber next Friday, I will be going touring with them tho. Any mods or things you've done to help? Thanks
With the new front end looks, the Bobber is a much nicer looking bike than when 1st released Imho. Not to sure if I'd pay the extra for the chrome edition, tho it looks ok. Also, comfort looks pretty none existent, but could be deceiving. Think I'd probably go for the Speedmaster. Thanks for another great video mr Flyer.
My wife has a bobber black , she loves it, we did Switzerland to Edinburgh then the NC 500 and back to Switzerland, great ladies bike once moving easy to handle, tank range forced us to stop every 2,5 hours , which is fine for us in our 50s, simple cruise control button is excellent 👍
The quick flash disclaimer gave me Fight Club vibes. Took me a couple tries, but finally paused it at the right time. I'm sure I could have slowed the playback, but where's the fun in that? I watch a lot of your vids all the time... for a few years now and just realized I'm not even subscribed 🤦♂. You're always very informative. Keep up the great work!
I had a newer type Bobber until v recently. . And really enjoyed it for the 7000 miles I put on it. As you say not many around. . I even took it on a Rapid Training track day which was a hoot. . No-one had seen one taken on the track before! And yes plenty of peg scraping on the corners!! 😅
Lovely bike , agree about the back end, I'd have to go for a side mounted number plate and a lot smaller mudguard, very tempted with one for my next bike.
Thanks I enjoy your reveiws but being an Old Surrey lad living in Norway I enjoy the scenery on a Beautiful day giving me a top up of country back lanes Britain at it's best. It will never beat Norway in stunning views both Countries have great biking rides and today I am a little enviouse of your ride😊
I like these double ended videos, it reminds me of those action films in the eighties, when you think the villain is done for only for them to come back again in the end of the movie for another go at the hero.
Your Royal Enfield is so much more real. I just feel sick with the ideas fake carburetors! By the way, I owned a 2005 t120 when it was brand new. I'm thinking of going back to a 1972 750. It's just impractical for me but it doesn't hurt to dream.
I was looking at them in Chester Triumph on Friday while in for service, and love the cool looks of them.. Especially liked the Black&Grey tank colour..👌 Man I think I need 5 different bikes!!🤦♂️😅
Does look good. I think it would be great for short rides, sport around local maybe work and home. Think after seeing your review just might be interested. Fan of your channel.
I've got a lake view so it's been the best summer ever; no drought or having to stay indoors after 10 am because it's 36/7 degrees outside. I'm in the rain is life camp.
Very much in the UK, a stiff pedal ride to Missenden but in the general segment. I hate plus 34 degree heat, and loved our summer, even though rain is far worse on pushies vs m/bikes, I escaped most of the showers. I wouldn't say I'm getting the hots for a return to m/bikes as my local roads/drivers mean it will be a long slog to get to decent roads but I like this years Harley line and of course the Speedy. Cruiser's.. Mmmmm. Dere's nothing quite like 'em.@@TheMissendenFlyer
I bought a bobber black in 2018 and kept it for 4 years. I loved it. Mine had the 9 litre tank and would get you 110 miles ish. The newer one has a 12 litre, so that is an improvement. Its comfortable for a couple of hours or so, pulls like a train, and was reliable. I did tail tidy the back end and added some british custom pipers, which sounded amazing. Everyone loved the bobber. Only real gripe was pressuring the front tyre between the large brake discs and spokes was chore.
Love the look of this bike. The tank, paintwork and finish look great. I sat on one at the MCN show and there it's no chance I could cope with the seating position at 6ft 3". Seeing a photo of me on it I looked ridiculous. Sometimes it's styling over practically. The fuel tank is too small and I don't like that Triumph also reduced the tank size on the new Street Triple.
Just as with the Speedmaster, the tank range is about 130 miles, not 100. When I bought my Speedmaster I was told it and the Bobber were now exactly the same bike except for the rear-end styling. On a personal note, Bobbers just don't blow my skirt up. That seat sort of tacked onto the back of the bike reminds me of piece of agricultural equipment, something you might see in a field being towed behind a tractor. 🙂The Bobber seat does have a rider weight limit of about 120KG I think, which may be a problem for some. Speedo is the same as the Speedmaster and I really like it. 'Vincentesque' as one reviewer put it. Agree about the elastic bands, which my Speedmaster also has, though I can't say I notice them when riding. Cheers and thanks for the vid! Vince
Hia the bobber used to do 90-100 mile tank range but it's tank size is now 12ltr not the older models 9ltr. I've got the gold line model 2022 and I get 130 -140 mile tank range. Its also got cruise control which is great. Its a fun bike. I've got a speedmaster too fitted with mid controls.
@@TheMissendenFlyerwell honestly I'd say the speedy as it can do everything. Been on holidays with it, use it for round town, its comfy as anything iv ever ridden. The bobber is a hoot to ride and it gets all the looks, iv never grinned so much on a bike as I do with the bobber. I wouldn't part with it but if I had to choose id keep the speedy. You definitely need a speedy in your garage I know you like them. 😁
Ps. Iv also got a 2001 790cc bonneville so I think iv pretty much got the bonneville range covered. Other half has got the t120. Triumph fan family I guess.
I've lwys been a sports bike rider, but last year when I saw the gold line Bobber I had to have it. I think its one of the best looking bikes around. I've never had so many positive co me ts from bikers and non-bikers than I've had witn the Bobber. There are so many customisation options for them from the likes of Motone that you can lean into the cruiser side or do as I've done and lean into the sporty retro side. Had to replace the stocks hock with a custom Maxton unit which transforms the ride. I don't think I'd like it as my only bike due to poor ground clearance and relative lack of speed but I have a SpeedTriple RS too, so that does sporty stuff and the Bobber is for relaxing rides on sunny days.
I have the early bobber with the 9 litre tank and i must own the most economical one in the UK, based on peoples comments. I get a minimum of 130miles with at least a litre left in the tank on refills, i actually got to nearly 150 miles and it still had some fuel left, i ride it fairly hard too and it always says around 63 mpg and the dash no matter how i ride. I ride with pals who confirm the miles covered, so i know it's legit. The bike has a Booster plug and Vance & Hines, otherwise standard. I nearly did'nt buy it due to size of the tank, but it has really suprised me.
Thanks for the review Andy, excellent as always. Were you using a different chin camera? The picture somehow looked different, maybe just the good light?
I'd like to borrow one for a weekend. No use for touring though, fitting a rear rack means drilling through the rear mudguard, & weight restrictive. Chrome detailing makes it look cheap - our local dealer has one, & the chrome finish looks rippled. I'll stick to my Speed Twin 1200.....does everything for me.
I’ve done 160 miles between fill ups on my speedmaster, granted slightly bigger tank & I was suffering from range anxiety as I was on the Nc 500 out in the sticks ,
I loved my original. The engine pulled like a train and sounded glorious, but as you say the front brake on the original was rubbish. I replaced it with a bigger disk and four pot brembo caliper. However ultimately I couldn't live with the lack of ground clearance. I dont see myself as a bargain bin Rossi, but it shouldn't drag its undercarriage at such modest lean angles. The rear suspension too was pretty basic one size fits all. It definitely benefits from an aftermarket shock.
Nice review & it's a great looking & sounding bike. The 12 litre tank is a bit silly but like the Katana (which I know you hate lol) which also has a 12 litre tank, 100-120 mile tank range is enough imo if the bike is all about the looks & just cruising about posing. There's also plenty of bikes out there with larger tanks but very similar ranges so not a deal breaker for me.
@@TheMissendenFlyer wow. Quick reply - many thanks 🙏. I’m 64yo so no Spring chicken. Would only look to do leisurely 150 mile max per day anyway I think. Just doing the sums (£) on a p.ex for a 2023 chrome Bobber against my 2022 Ninja650. I will subscribe to your channel, really like your down to earth style 😎
G’day Missenden Flyer, During the video, you said that there are two modes: road & rain. My question for you is this…I’m curious what the rain mode actually changes on the bike? Handling I dare say but I really don’t know🤷♂️
@@TheMissendenFlyer thanks mate. I appreciate it. Bike looks mint👌🏻. I love em. I’m sold, it’s officially my next bike. PS love ya channel, keep up the great work. Cheers from Australia 👍
Things you don't like about this Bobber: 1. Cramped riding position 2. Not very comfortable. Seat lacking padding. 3. Harsh hard ride. Needs to be softer. 4. Fuel tank small capacity. 5. Elastic bands securing cables/wiring on handle bars. 6. Single clock dial. Twin clocks would be preferable. 7. Ignition key on side of engine. 8. Steering lock separate from engine ignition key. 9. Fake carb(s). The Speedmaster looks a prettier more complete bike and makes for a much more practical bike imho. Wouldn't it be nice if Triumph could give the Speedmaster and Bobber belt drives? Also twin clock dials and a slightly larger fuel tank.
Bought one of these in black last week, great bike, it's actually triumphs best seller, and I think as far as other makes it's only beaten by the bmw gs. you forgot to mention the cruise control, and it is only meant to have one clock(it's a bobber)
I had a test ride of a Speedy 1200 with mid-set pegs, I’m 5’7’’ and felt the seating position was a bit odd, maybe similar to your experience on the bobber? Re-tried a Speedy feet forward, and that suits the bike much more 👍
Not my cup of tea but always enjoy your bike reviews. Now I might be alone in this but I actually like the piss pot brake fluid reservoirs on bikes and often it's the more expensive machines that have them and the cheaper ones that don't. Lamb chops has just reviewed the near 30 grand pikes peak Ducati which has them for clutch and brake. MotoGP bikes have them too🤔
At that price point, I'm a little surprised that the clutch is cabled and not hydraulic. Also, as you mentioned, it's surprising that there's only a single clock.
Love your vids, I’m in the market for a Bobber as like you say, I hardly see any, I think 2 in the last year in the UK. I’d definately need a custom padded seat and get the rear shock changed for sure to save my Chalfonts from exploding with hard bumps 🤣😂 My biggest debate is how far do I go customising it, I have a custom shop in mind, a budget and all the gizmos and gadgets I want changing or added to my liking. The exhaust choice is a headache, so I’ll need to go either obnoxiously loud and unsociable or some with a grunt that will get through its MoT at a later date etc. The Bobber will be ideal as I’ve had a mad year on a Z900 RE as my first new bike in 30 years, the Rain mode to ease me back into two wheels lasted about an hour before I went boy racer 90’s fireblade mode 😂. I was going to trade up to a Z H2 SE but the Bobber is cheaper and can get brand new chrome edition for £11,995 new old stock! The rest will be spent on customising it 👍🍻
I wonder if it's possible to get bobbins on that swingarm in order to use a rear stand for chain maintenance? I had a 2020 Street Twin and had to use a jack under the frame to get the rear wheel off the ground due to lack of bobbin holes on the swingarm. Looks like a similar issue here? I understand the Speed Twin does take bobbins?
You mentioned you have not seen any. I'm in Sydney Australia and I have this exact bike in the chrome addition and absolutely love it! Purchased it February this year and already clocked up approx 11000km. In that time, I have not seen another either! There seems to be a winning noise in second gear at 60km/hr which was there from the beginning, apparently it's normal? Everything seems to be running nicely, just the noise is annoying. You need to either be below or above 60 for it to disappear and it only happens in 2nd gear. Out of interest, did you or anyone with this bike experience this?
I couldn’t quite see the engine badge on your film but you said it was the same engine as your speed twin, is that correct?, I thought the bobber had the HT version of the 1200 twin, so would have the heavier crank, whereas the speed twin has the HP version of the engine. I have a Thruxton 1200 with the HP engine and once rode a Bonneville with the HT engine, it makes a huge difference to the way the engine responds , also the HP engine makes around 20bhp more than the HT engine and counter to the moniker slightly more torque as well.
Got one. Sounds great. Faster or the same speed as many litre sports bikes if on tight twisties due to it having more torque low down in the revs compared to sports bikes
I had my eyes on this bike, I love (almost) everything about it. However, just like some other commenters here, I'm too tall for it. I sat on one to get a feel, and it was a straight, clear "no".
Tried the original, lovely engine nice looking but a daft range - just about enough to hop between petrol stations. But I suppose that means more posing !
12 litre tank is better than the 9 litre of the original. A mate of mine gets about 130 to a tank, sometimes a little more. No worse than my cbr600. Lucky to get 120 out of that thing. Like me a Bonnie, stress free bikes.
Once you’ve seen a Thornton Hundred Bobber anything vaguely stock doesn’t look much at all. I’d imagine the wider front wheel is down to TH. It’s the first thing they do.
Mr. flyer. You failed to mention that the Bobber has cruise control as well as the adjustable seat for & aft to perhaps alleviate the cramped feeling. 🤔
The Rocket is my choice for the ultimate Triumph, and my second favorite cruiser closely behind Ducati's V-4 Diavel. Bonneville's being Thai built, are just not quite up to the Rocket in finish, IMHO. The Speed Twin is my favorite Bonneville.
The type of bike to pop out for the afternoon on. It’s a bit if fantasy bike, but the reality is not very practical. Makes you look good with a pisspot helmet on and a cigar in your cake hole. I’d have one if money was no object and if I had the room, though I do (just) prefer the Indian Scout Bobber; maybe you could try that? Cheers
I ended up opting for the Speedmaster last year (Goldline edition), but went for mid pegs and straight bars, so effectively a comfier Bobber. Absolutely love it!
Prefer speedmaster over the bobber and you get cruise control, don't think the bobber as that.

Sounds good to me!
Great review as usual, thank you.
My pleasure! Thank you for watching!
Great review Andy - did anyone else chuckle at the number plate on that van at 12.15 😂?
I’ll have to go back and rewatch for that now!
That is good to hear - thoroughly useable then....
Simply beautiful….. & a good review from the man! What is not to like here 😊
Thank you
😊 nice bike but the speedmaster is my fav .nice review sir
Beautiful bike beautiful review
Thanks ✌️
Think you forgot to mention the cruise control, and the tank on this version has a bigger fuel capacity than the one you rode before.
Nice review !
Yes good points - thanks for that!
Thanks for the review Andy, excellent as always. Were you using a different chin camera? The picture somehow looked different, maybe just the good light?
Same camera as ever - the light makes all the difference with these GoPros.....
Fair enough!
Congrats on 250k !!!
Thank you for noticing! ….and for watching 🤓
if i had the money i would buy this its just such amovie bike it has great looks and seems the engine is great
I’ve done 160 miles between fill ups on my speedmaster, granted slightly bigger tank & I was suffering from range anxiety as I was on the Nc 500 out in the sticks ,
Wow - that's pretty decent.....
Those Triumph Bobbers are growing on me Flyer.
Cool looking things for sure....and great engine.
Although I do love the Bobber, still waiting for an interesting review of the new Guzzi V100 engine 😁
A beautiful sounding machine
A trivial point, but I wonder about the impact of a key fob on the finish on the cases. Swinging back and forth, bouncing a bit -- can't be good.
Yes I did wonder about that too - keyless just might make sense on this bike!
On bikes like these I just wish they would have fitted either belt or shaft final drive.
Fair enough!
More bike tours! Especially on different bikes if you can get away with potentially less storage space. Or maybe a Roadglide...
Yes and from reading the comments here it sounds like the real world range is actually quite good....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Good to know. It seems a very nice & stylish bike & it'd be a shame if a daft tank range ruined it.
The later 2018 models started having dual discs at the front I believe it was only the 2016 and 17 models with a singer calliper
Great review. Really want to get one. I’m planning to go Portugal next year from uk. Do you think that might be a bit much ?
No I think that’s probably doable - don’t do too many miles per day though…250 max I’d say.
150 milers per day - no issue then.....enjoy!
Not my style of bike but Triumph have to be congratulated for producing something different. The Speed Twin 1200 is still my favourite
Mine too!
G’day Missenden Flyer,
During the video, you said that there are two modes: road & rain. My question for you is this…I’m curious what the rain mode actually changes on the bike? Handling I dare say but I really don’t know🤷♂️
Softens throttle response and turns up traction control and ABS is my bet….
@@TheMissendenFlyer thanks mate. I appreciate it. Bike looks mint👌🏻. I love em. I’m sold, it’s officially my next bike. PS love ya channel, keep up the great work. Cheers from Australia 👍
Things you don't like about this Bobber:
1. Cramped riding position
Sure would!
Bought one of these in black last week, great bike, it's actually triumphs best seller, and I think as far as other makes it's only beaten by the bmw gs. you forgot to mention the cruise control, and it is only meant to have one clock(it's a bobber)
I would be very surpised if this out sells the Speed Twin 900 (old STreet Twin) - where are you getting your stats from out of interest?
I read it somewhere, it said only out sold by the gs and a kawasaki, but can't remember what Kwak it was.
I love the bike but agree cfront cables should be hidden tidied up and they should have made it belt drive instead of chain otherwise great 👍
I had a test ride of a Speedy 1200 with mid-set pegs, I’m 5’7’’ and felt the seating position was a bit odd, maybe similar to your experience on the bobber? Re-tried a Speedy feet forward, and that suits the bike much more 👍
Yes I’m not a fan of feet forward but it does feel more natural on these very low bikes….
Great overview Andy could I ask what you think of the Segura Butch glove your wearing ? And the sizing accurate 😊 Pete
I love em / and yes, sizing is fine…
Absolutely love this bike for its style! The price in the Netherlands is a bit eye watering however: €19.300 stock. I can’t justify it unfortunately 😢
Crikey!
Looks well, but as it stands in the vid chain maintenance could be a issue without paddock stands or the likes?
I’d definately need a custom padded seat and get the rear shock changed for sure to save my Chalfonts from exploding with hard bumps 🤣😂
My biggest debate is how far do I go customising it, I have a custom shop in mind, a budget and all the gizmos and gadgets I want changing or added to my liking.
Good point - and yes I have bobbins on my Speed Twin (not that I have ever used them!)
I didn’t notice it!
To be fair I didn't check so you may be right - my bad!
Yeah you lucky fella the chunky tyres look great like the extra bit at end of the video this road was made for the bike.
Thanks for watching to the bitter end!
Got one. Sounds great. Faster or the same speed as many litre sports bikes if on tight twisties due to it having more torque low down in the revs compared to sports bikes
HA! Most things are, but as usual, its rider dependant.
Would be a fantastic second bike for me. Just the small matter of not having the cash at present.
That ol chestnut!
I had my eyes on this bike, I love (almost) everything about it. However, just like some other commenters here, I'm too tall for it. I sat on one to get a feel, and it was a straight, clear "no".
What a shame - even I felt cramped….
Tried the original, lovely engine nice looking but a daft range - just about enough to hop between petrol stations. But I suppose that means more posing !
Well that is the type of bike it is - so no worries there as far as I'm concerned....
12 litre tank is better than the 9 litre of the original.
A mate of mine gets about 130 to a tank, sometimes a little more.
No worse than my cbr600. Lucky to get 120 out of that thing.
Like me a Bonnie, stress free bikes.
Yes me too - all of the range are great....
Once you’ve seen a Thornton Hundred Bobber anything vaguely stock doesn’t look much at all. I’d imagine the wider front wheel is down to TH. It’s the first thing they do.
Yes they do look cool don't they - although I'm not sure about that twisty exhaust they've started doing.....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Indeed. I bet they are so loud!
I can see a lot of people, modding the bike and remove the rear full length mudguard for a smaller one.
Mr. flyer. You failed to mention that the Bobber has cruise control as well as the adjustable seat for & aft to perhaps alleviate the cramped feeling. 🤔
Yes I wish I'd thought of trying the adjustable seat!
Absolutely beautiful looking bikes but again they look too small. I've just bought a t100. Absolutely love it
Love those..
The Rocket is my choice for the ultimate Triumph, and my second favorite cruiser closely behind Ducati's V-4 Diavel. Bonneville's being Thai built, are just not quite up to the Rocket in finish, IMHO. The Speed Twin is my favorite Bonneville.
Mine too!
Cheers
Yes I'd like a crack on that.....
Ignition key switch position is ridiculous but not the only Triumph to suffer from this design blunder.
I agree!
I think the 100 miles range you got on your first test ride was with the 9 litre tank not the 12 litre tank.
That is true…..
I love this bike but I don’t think I could put up with the 100 mile tank range!
Has the speed master got a bigger tank?
I believe it has - but don't quote me on that....
@@TheMissendenFlyer thanks Andy 😊
Beautiful bike coupled with (as ever) genuine reflections,....I wonder if BMW will let you out on the newbies? Hope so!
I've asked!
Where did you get your gloves? They look cool.
Bikerheadz!
