“That same evening, Korean news outlet Xportsnews reported that the music video had been made private due to a request from Olivia Rodrigo’s management. According to the report, it was not the controversial song title that led to the request, but rather issues with copyright infringement in certain scenes of the music video.” From the Soompi article about the matter. Olivia and her team are smarter than people seem to be giving them credit for. I’m even willing to bet they got what the concept was from the get-go. But the usage of copyrighted materials is a different issue
The song has a cute meaning and it sounds great, but they shouldve named it like HATE YUQI and have Yuqi play the idol to avoid controversy (and have gidle posters and albums in the room and copy yuqis solo debut mv considering shes friends with Yuqi and all) OR LITERALLY CALL IT HATE YENA....like she couldve put herself in two roles like Taylor Swift in YBWM or Avril Lavigne in Girlfriend.
I legit thought this song was satire, the existence being a joke; and then I heard it. It was honestly a nice sounding song, but my God was it just a bad idea to put out
i feel like the most obvious solution was creating an alter ego or have yuqi be the celebrity in question. they even had little drawings & photos of yena in a pink wig like?! also the hate rodrigo hashtag is genuinely CRAZY like wtf is wrong her team 😭😭😭
I actually thought the music was camp and cute. Isn't it the company's fault? Yena and her team worked so hard for this song to be created only to me deleted. They should have taken permission from Olivia's company. This title alone created buzz which has brought yena hate. It should be the company's job to protect her.
It's to do with olivias new single releasing just around the corner, if you will search olivia, hate Rodrigo is bound to come up and the # just added fuel to it, for any lable it's like yena trying to piggy back on olivia, that's how algorithm will work
I was and still am 100% on board with the concept, the imagery, the mv, everything. But there were 2 major fuckups: - The fact that the release coincided with Olivia releasing new music - There doesn’t seem to be any evidence that anyone from Yehua spoke with Olivia or her team at all The thing, the ONLY thing, that would make or break this comeback is permission. Since permission was absent, they broke it. So disappointing
*Yuehua and also, just so we’re all on the same page: none of this happened because of the name, or at least not in the way everyone seems to think it did. The problem was copyright and timing. I fully believe that all of this would have been 100% fine if not for those two things. I don’t even think it would be far off for Olivia to have made a cameo if it were under different circumstances. It takes minimal pop culture knowledge and 2 seconds of critical thinking to realize what the concept is (or, y’know, listen to the lyrics). The problem was that Yena and Olivia came back in the same week, and neither Yena nor her team got permission from Olivia or Interscope to use copyrighted images of her. “Hate Rodrigo” itself was not the problem.
Yeah, they should have gone with your PR hate idea. It's like the company was to lazy to ask for permission. I can't understand how that didnt cross anyones mind.
Trust me I saw it coming I expected them to be bashed and sued even, why would you use someone as well known as Olivia?? It comes off as attention seeking, there's no excuse 😭😭
Don't expect Chinese company like Yuehua to give a crap about western artist's like i bet they don't even know 1 western artist there and they don't care at all they just wanna do what they want
the concept is a good idea in itself, but the name and hashtag ruin it completely. she is literally promoting the hashtag haterodrigo. the song is great so i really wish she had just made the song about an ambiguous girl, not an actual artist. i love yena anyway and i wish wicked love had been the main title track
I dont really see a problem with the idea of this, but why do olivia? If you would do that with some artist that is way older and has been in the industry for decades or you know passed away😅 as a tribute but its weird to do someone thats so close to your age and is still quite new in the industry themself. Yeah she was really successful from the start and the aestethics are recognisable but still, who made that marketing move
If the tittle isn't have that word "HATE" I think the song will get more positive outcome and surprisingly they don't contact the Olivia team to do this concept when it heavily copying what she did lol isn't like just mention her name in lyric one or twice in the song 😬😬
And finally i can watch the MV, i don't know they edit out alot of thing or the originate it like that but only thing i can recall it Olivia's work is open scene that it and some of her poster? , the song isn't that good in my opinion
,,i really like the song hate rodrigo the lyrics itself was addicted . .. ,,and thanks to scandal ive known olivia rodrigo , and shes a great singer❤ ,,i love choi yena.. ,,i like bad hobby too.❤
I think it was cute, the outfits and sets where really cute the song was really cute, the concept was fine too. I loved it, it resonated with me. Yena said it was about how teens get jealous of those they adore and getting over that jealousy (by the end of the song). So, the Liv thing makes sense, since Yena admires Olivia. I don't care about the references and copying Yena does and I could less about the title, getting upset over that make no sense. I feel like it's really childish to get upset over little things as if she's sending a hate train or attacking her. But using Liv's image without permission? Really? Like why not just ask? And if you didn't get permission, don't use it, that's my only issue. Use someone else, you can even use photo's that give off her vibe, you can't get in trouble for that. Yena and Yuehua obviously didn't need to change the title so it's not a problem, but it doesn't really make sense since the song is about admiration and jealousy, and Yena obviously likes Olivia. why not change it I personally don't really care but change 'Hate' to something else, it would make more sense. I'm not mad at Yena but Yuehua for not getting permission first, that's their job. At the end of the day, it's really not the end of the world, hating on Yena won't do anything nor will complaining (not saying anyone is but in the case of) they fixed the image problem and reposted the video. Everything's good as of right now.
And barely a day later it’s back up, the only thing changed being copyrighted images removed. That’s it. The title’s the same, the lyrics are the same, the dedication to Olivia is still at the end… we can stop pretending this was about the title now 😶
yena could’ve still made a tribute to olivia but change the title to “jealousy” or “hate you but love you” or something and it would’ve been fine. also having so many posters of her in the MV was too much. a fake feud as publicity for a kpop idol??? no way! that’s considered a good marketing tactic in the west maybe, but in kpop female idols are expected to be sweet and docile at all times unfortunately
i just don't get what the company was thinking... obviously anyone who reads the title of the song is gona be like ?????
it was such a weird choice

Omg yaaaas. Hate Yena would’ve honestly been kinda cool? And would definitely draw attention too!
Hi I am with Yuehua Entertainment. Would you produce our next comeback?😂
Hate Yena would've been such a good idea, what a completely avoidable L for them :/
@@edvaedan9161sure
@@silver_silver LOL I thought that was Draco Malfoy in your pfp

the song is fun but the concept and mv is questionable
@@starxmon It really is, I have no idea what Yuehua was thinking💀
She could have done subtle references, cause this was really copying. I love yena, but yuehua this was too much
yeah...

for real though, i have no idea how no one thought this was a bad idea

The fake beef idea was what I expected. To do this without permission…double yikes.
im glad i watched the mv before it got privated oop
X2 otherwise I would have died of curiosity
theres already many reuploaded the old mv

They should have learnt from the Cherry Coke incident
So they used another pop star’s name without their permission as a marketing strategy????
This the stupidest thing a lable can do 😂😂. It's actually funny
They have removed the scenes of olivia from the mv, and reuploaded but you can see a blurred one in the background
Don't expect Chinese company like Yuehua to give a crap about western artist's like i bet they don't even know 1 western artist there and they don't care at all they just wanna do what they want

They should have promoted wicked love as main tile and called the second song Hate XX

It was taken down before I watched it 😭
Rodrigo? Yena's Chinese company (yes, it is chinese company in the world of kpop) does NOT know who Rodrigo is.
The biggest crime is the song doesnt even sound that good. If you are going to go this far make sure the song slaps.
This whole song/video was a bad idea since the beginning
She look rlly cute in it tho

Lol its back
Yena rules and Olivia Rodrigo sucks and is overrated.
I’m so happy to be solved it well…🥹🥹
