Solid advice! I started Djing weddings in 2001, and I'm STILL working on my announcements, vernacular, and voice projection. Love this bro, nuggets were GOLD lol. Always providing legit content.
Thanks Nick!! I’m a Dj and my weakness always have been the microphone! I rocked the mic last night at a wedding gig!! Your $40 dollars script made me sound like a mike buffer! Felt so confident 😅
Great tips!! One thing I learned at mobilebeat is to never pick up the mic unless you KNOW what you’re going to say. That way you’re not tripping over your words.
Great advice!! :) I always say "Don't walk but DANCE your way back to your seats" and it always goes over well, especially when you have to cut short a dance set because the food is being served. lol
I've never MC'd a wedding before, my first is this September. Reading comments that show your accuracy let's me trust this, so thank you for being true!
Just when I thought I was this 15 year wedding MC veteran, you just informed me I fucking say ladies and gentlemen too often. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, and now I can change it up. We really like your videos, and have been sending them to some of our new MC's for refferance. Thank you for the content.
NICK GREAT VIDEO AS A SINGLE OP IN JERSEY I ALWAYS USE MY SMALLER EVENTS TO PRACTICE MIC SKILLS FOR THE LARGER EVENTS. THANK YOU FOR THE KNOWLEDGE I ALWAYS LOOKING TO IMPROVE MY MIC SKILLS.
Nick - Great point about writing a script. Been an MC for years and spent several years writing speeches for Navy admirals (I'm retired military). Some of them are not natural public speakers and get very nervous. You've seen news clips of the admiral or general, mic in hand, up close to the troops, never missing a eat. A common technique when not reading from behind a podium is to become very familiar with or even memorize the speech then write bullet/highlight notes (memory prompters) on small, pocket-sized index cards that fit in the palm of your hand. If you can avoid unnatural "dead air" when glancing at your cards, it's very natural and unnoticed by most in the audience.
Thanks Nick. ( my real name is the same). I recently started working with a DJ/mc event guyand although I use to work setting up lights and sound and built custom scenery for all the standard events years back I never Mced. So I recently was Mc at a sweet 16 and did ok but I was thrown in to it essentially. I wasn’t able to hear myself on a mic without music in the background and eyes on me. So I went to the bosses shop and did a dry run with him. (He happens to be a big fan of yours btw ) I’m not shy but needed that solo practice and he definitely gave me a thumbs up in a sense that I was picking up on that enthusiasm and energy. I have my first wedding in less than 2 weeks and I’m not too nervous really but I’m glad I found this video before I even met with him bc just having some idea and guidance from you really gave him some confidence in me. So thank you first and foremost. One thing I’d like to say is it would be super helpful for any future videos is to maybe pepper in more real time examples if possible. Just simply posting a well put together tutorial is extremely hard so please know I get that. I’m currently looking at a few of your other ones and it’s super helpful. Keep up the amazing content and maybe I’ll see ya out there in the venues one day. Your new friend Mc slick ( Nick) ❤🎉🙏🏻🤣
my dude, I love ALL!!!!! of your content, even the ones I don't agree with all the time. But ,it also open my eyes into how to look at things differently. Keep doing what you're doing ,the way that you've been doing it sir. The balance between TRUTH & REALITY!! Shouldn't matter how it is EXPRESSED!!!!
I always confirm names and pronunciations of the Bridal Party when they are being lined up for intros. Even if Maitre’D lines them up I still go out there to confirm the order is correct or spelling of names is right. Robert could be “Ro-bear” or Smith could be “Smyth”, etc. great job in the video.
Yessir! I get the phonetics ahead of time in our final meeting then triple check while lining up the bridal party. I go over all this and a lot more in My Ultimate MC Guide --> sellfy.com/nick-spinelli/p/the-ultimate-mc-guide/
@@NickSpinelli would like to learn more about some basic equipment to get started with on a budget for now until I see it's going to become profitable.
Great info! Thank you. A tip I got early on was to have someone video me doing my intros (Can be a roadie or friend at the event). I made great improvements when I was able to critique myself in the days following the event.
I agree on the ladies and gentleman with not over using it. I attended a wedding where the MC said 16 times during the night, it drove me crazy! I never say it now ;) Thanks for the tips!
I subscribed and like every video. I have previous experience but not enough. I’m throwing myself to the wolves in a sense but will have support and direction. I’m far from shy but definitely appreciate all this advice so I don’t get the deer in the headlights feeling. Thanks Nick. That’s my name too. lol. Fake profile
Nick, thank you from the bottom of my heart bro. Your MC guide was immensely helpful. I was nervous until I went through your material and used the cheat sheet.
I’m always a nervous wreck when I have to MC and DJ a Wedding. But the moment that I bought your course and was able to sit down and watch your tips and see how you do it it has helped me be more confident about tomorrow’s wedding! Definitely worth every penny!
Nick thanks so much for putting together your DJ tutorials, they were fantastic!!! I had not Dj a wedding since 1997 and your videos help so much. I completely forgot how much work goes into doing a wedding and your videos saved my life. It was a friend wedding so it was a one time thing for me, I'm to old DJ/MC again, too much work. Anyway have you ever consider comedy stand up? You definitely have the personality, I absolutely laugh my butt off watching your videos, you are funnier than most stand up comedians out there! lol :)
Just discovered this channel and I am loving it! Question: do you have any videos on EQ settings for the mic (besides the HPF). Especially during speeches when one voice can be very different from another. Or even just EQing myself to sound good.
I had to come back and show some love ! I copped the wedding mc pack and and used the script for my grand entrance . I had everyone rise then dropped the track and said the new mr mrs line everyone went nuts ! Trust me if you want help with MCing a wedding , get Nicks MC pack. $40 for a million dollars worth of game ! Cheers bro 🍻
Introductions used to be a lot easier when we have CDs because you didn't have to multitask as much. I used to hold my introduction sheet in one hand and my microphone in the other hand loosely where I could still use my pointer finger to push buttons on my CD player.LOL
Hey Nick! What external mixer would you recommend for this? Always used to plug in the mic to my sx2 and never knew it would actually make a noticeable difference with an external mixer.. thanks man, great videos!
Excellent advice, Nick! Another idea for improving MC skills is to recognize that you have weaknesses and make errors! You won't notice it live so MAKE A RECORDING of yourself (audio or video) and then study it afterward. Listen for voice quality, repeated phrases, DICTION AND ELOCUTION (introduce vs. "innerduce", gentlemen vs. "jennlmin", etc.). If video, observe your posture, hand gestures, and position. I learned this Monday-morning quarterback technique in college (30 years ago) and it's still useful for discovering places for improvement. THEN take a professional MC workshop to fully master the skills!
Odd question for you. Does the controller go to the computer and then the computer into the mixer? Or is it computer into controller and then plug the controller into the mixer? Thanks in advance!
When should I book my 1st event? How much I should charge being a beginner? I was thinking a half off (average dj cost) grand opening special for my 1st 20 events. Any video recommendations or advice
More Church from Nick Spinelli! How about a video dealing with drunk Brides and Grooms. You've done drunk guests. Maybe it's my clients but I've had brides carried out of receptions, getting sloppy with drinks near equipment and requesting stuff like 2 Live Crew 'Pop that P***y' with grandparents and kids in the room. I know it's their night but man, can they make it tough once the bar is open.
My parents are getting remarried they Hired music DJ to save money I have never dj'd before for a wedding I love all kinds of music it's just I don't want be The nervous Are there any tips that I can do to make people like me as a DJ even now it's my 1st time.
Excellent everything but when you download your guide it's with a black background and there's no way to print it without running your entire printer out of ink it is absolutely ridiculous setup

This is by far THE BEST video you have done yet. These nuggets need to happen more bro.
More to come!
This is just what I needed! MCing is the most intimidating part of this game. Will be buying your guide, for sure.
Good stuff. As tony t would say... this is way better than "shouting out names from behind a wall"
heard that!

I was a radio and club DJ back in the day (70s/80s). Radio jocks called the phony voice "puking on the air."
Nice job, Nick!
And thank you for opening up with proper microphone technique! You're not Jay-Z. Stop doing that sh_t!
Thanks! I totally agree haha
Many thanks, bruh
