Decided to do something that's never been on the channel before.
Do something else related to railroading in the future?

Big ol' timey steam engines (locomotives / cars / industrial manufacturing / ships etc.) are super interesting to me.

That second and third engine are both over 100 years old and they still look new. That’s pretty good up keeping.

Definitely the last thing I expected to see on this channel but I am NOT complaining
Edit: wheelslip is a lot less surprising when you remember that the area of contact between the wheels and the rails is about the size of a coin. Really impressive that they rarely slip at all

A lot of these older engines, especially steam, had a sandbox that they would use to feed sand onto the track just in front of one of the drive wheels to improve traction.
You can see the feed tube in a couple of these clips.

I was privileged to have briefly worked with the folks at the Hawaiian Railway Society when I was stationed in Pearl Harbor 93-96. We laid tracks, made wigwags and performed maintenance on the old Navy engines that were a part of the Hawaiian Railway back in the day. I learned a lot about railroading and proudly display my certificate as a member of the Railway Society.

💙💛 My husband and I got to where we go married almost every year for our anniversary. They have an old steam engine powered travel train, that has dining and lounge cars. The route goes up into the Ozark mountains and back to the station. The route is through the forest and the deer have learned to come to the sound of the train for the corn that is thrown out by the conductor. It's a wonderful view out the windows as you dine, especially when we have to wait for the trip and go in the fall when the leaves are changing. Eureka Springs Arkansas is a beautiful place to visit. I recommend anyone who has a chance, to visit there.

This is why they have those nozzles to put sand between the rail and the wheels. Something else interesting is when someone forgets to release the "parking brake" on ONE railcar and the train drags it until there's a flat spot on the wheel! There's a rail line about a half mile behind my house and every now and then I can hear one...

Did I actually hear that guy in the last video say, "Better go faster, I hear banjos?" 7:52
Near here in Campo, California, there is the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum. They offer short distance/duration train rides on a surviving piece of the railway linking San Diego with destinations to the east. The railroad became washed out during tropical storm Kathleen in Sept, 1976. Also surviving is the Carrizo Gorge portion of the railway. So yeah, I guess I do find this sort of thing interesting.

If you have done some physics of car tires, slipping happens often and you just have to keep it down to a minimum. So intellectually, I would have assumed it happened on trains too but nice to see it directly. I would think this wrecks tracks as well as wheels.

In Indian Railways, separate sand containers are there in the engine/coaches to pour on the tracks to avoid slipping

Can you please let us know what conversion factor you are using for the weights. It's obviously not standard (Long) tons; 2240lbs/ton, nor is it US (Short) tons; 2000lbs/ton. The closest I seem to find is Metric tonnes; (approx 2205lbs/tonne)

It's called peter robbing Paul you take money that is meant to be paid for something else sometimes you are behind on something sometimes not and on a really good year you have no problems at all.
