I had a similar issue on the emulation side of things. I found you need a hardware mouse and keyboard for set up and make sure the controller isn't being controlled by like a JoyXOff or similar program
I use controller companion on steam it’s like 5 bucks. It’s really easy and you can add games to profiles to use with those like Age of Empires and other games like that
An important note is that the aya software has built into it power control - so you can increase or decrease power usage in order to get more perforamance or more battery depending what you're fps goal is. so on the games getting around 25, you might be able to bump up the power and make it to the solid 30 (at the expense of battery time and fan noise)
The amount of times I use an external controller with my switch is mind blowing. Love the 8bitdo SNES dual analog controller :d

Changing the TDP power profile will give you more or less performance; will also affect battery life. The screen issue is annoying for RDR2 but once I was able to set full screen, I no longer had issues. Definitely requires tinkering with the device to get things working but once it does it's great.

For Dolphin do this: Add it as a steam game, configure the controls in steam as a gamepad, go to manage shortcut, turn OFF 'allow desktop configuration in launcher. Launch it from Steam then configure controls

the OSK glitch occurs when the game is running in "exclusive fullscreen" mode, just go into options and disable that making it run in "normal" full screen mode.

because of the thing you mentioned at around 18:00 with the controller, maybe try using steam in big picture mode, and configuring the controller in the settings in the steam big picture mode before trying to use it anywhere else.
(could maybe even fix the mapping problems in dolphin)
there are some settings that you could have probably made to make it run at 60fps on cemu and on the amd panel, i did it and it used to run around 20/30fps and now it runs at 60fps smoothly, but anyways great video, i hope you will review the steam deck when you get the chance.

I would love to see this with a dock that has a more powerful GPU in it. I would love to replace my desktop gaming rig with a dockable switch type handheld. we're in a golden age of gaming and tech, and I cant wait to see what fun gimmicks are yet to come
I'm thinking around 2025 we will have a handheld windows console that can run most games at 1080p 60fps. I think I'll just use my 1060 laptop until then (if it survives).

So it's basically a switched sized and looking gaming pc. It's a good concept but at $1400 I'd rather just use a gaming pc that I can also use as a pc for work and school.

Because Aya is small company it's a shame. Because the steamdeck is soooo much cheaper and made me reserve one. Valve can take losses though. It's a cool piece of tech but could never justify the price. The storage is nice tho

You can solve a lot of controller issues in emulators by adding them to your Steam library as external games. Steam is surprisingly good at mapping and managing controllers.
I discovered this not long ago! I run the entire Epic Games Store from Steam now and all games have controller support lol
Not just good, but amazing at mapping, especially with the custom community downloads. You can even find support for motion on the switch controller that works on PC games.

Not particularly to this console, but I really like how these days this smaller CPUs which aren't desktop are getting more powerful for a price of heat and fan noise
It's awesome, but I look forward to when we can have powerful _and quiet_ chips for handhelds. I don't want to sit in public with my handheld sounding like a vacuum... And constant fan noise gives me a headache.
upgraded my aya neo 2021 to Windows 11 and don't have these window/fullscreen problems you mentioned.
also the analog stick and the triggers both use hal sensors which should hugely reduces the chances of stick drift.
but im just a guy on the internet so i suggest reading up on hal sensors.

I had the same issue when I tried to login to my Genshin Impact account, too. There's an easier work around, though. Just quit AYASpace, I mean close it completely, not just minimize. Then start Genshin Impact and when the login window pops up, just hit the "KB" button on the AYANEO Pro (on the NEXT I think it's a button combination like the big button on the lower right side + down or so on the d-pad). This way it works. If you have AYASpace opened or minimized and you press the "KB" button, the quick tool window of AYASpace is gonna pop up where you have to touch the keyboard icon on it to bring it up. Sadly it's just gonna minimize the game and open up the keyboard afterwards. That's why you have to close AYASpace completely before you hit the "KB" button on your AYANEO.

@@Matt-bp5vy who knows, but Wood said Nintendo told him to stop receiving or reviewing them. It was a while back. They make outrageous demands to someone that doesn't even work for them. They aren't in any position or place to be doing that. Maybe Wood should try to sue them.
Not defending what Nintendo did, but from what I understand Nintendo dropped Wood from the Ambassador Program and asked him to remove all mentions of him being in said program. AFAIK Nintendo haven't told Wood to stop reviewing their products. AFAIK they cannot do that, you can't tell someone they aren't allowed to review products publically available for sale. But yes, Nintendo made a big mistake by dropping Wood from the program (and ghosting him is madness), but ultiimately this has given him more freedom in his content. Stay safe, everyone.

Aya neo next advance was limited to a certain number of units from my understanding. That’s why they aren’t available anymore. The advance is an early model before the next and next pro come out.
Luckily I got my hands on one of the advance units. I didn’t mind paying extra for the hall sensor controls, 2tb of storage, and windows installed right from the get go. I’m super excited for mine.
Me too. I have a steam deck pre ordered as well but I love I can play all of my Xbox game pass games on the next. I’ll just end up selling the one I like least as I don’t need two handhelds. I hope by the time I get my deck reviews are out and I get a idea what one I like most. I kind of hope I like the next more then I can sell my sealed deck for much more then msrp and make some of my money back on the next.

Also have a q2 steam deck preordered, think they will have slightly different use cases for me steam deck for steam games and Aya neo next for emulation and stuff that doesn’t run on the deck. I know technically most things will run on the Deck with some finagling but…. I don’t want to finagle.
Hopeful long they ship the advance units soon, hyped for mine.

Im sure that somebody has mentioned it down here by now, but you could probably have used a bluetooth keyboard to type on the console, still a terrible solution for a portable system. But once you have all your accounts set up I wonder how much you would really need the keyboard for games. Really cool review. Keep it up :D
There's a quick button in the aya software to disable the built in controller I believe. Doing that might fix the external controller option (maybe the games are prioritizing the built in controller so you need to remove it)

Really cool video, I rather try the steam deck first tho, but honestly I use my Switch more for indie games anyway and my PC for bigger games.
BY THE WAY You could fix the controller thing on Dolphin by editing the .ini file on the config folder. You just have the save the controller layout, figure out what are B, X and Y called on your divice and edit the .ini file manually with a text editor. I had a similar problem years ago with a logitec controller and that is what I did to fix it.
It isnt recognizing your secondary controller sometimes because the built in controls are controller one, basically acts as a 360 controller always plugged into USB. You have to get a third party program to shut off the internal controls to map the extrernal controller as player 1, once youve got it its not as bad as it sounds, just flip the icon in the taskbar to on.
That is so much work for a dedicated gaming console.

@@tonygomez5226 I’m good. I don’t want to spend 10 minutes to 50 minutes just trying to get a game to turn on in a clunky OS that isn’t built for the form factor. I want to pick it up and play games, and that is it. And if I wanted to play what you are saying, I’d just play on my PC.

@@tonygomez5226 sure, me too. What I don’t like is 70-120 minute battery life, needlessly complicated UI interactions, games not working, DRM restrictions, etc.
These handheld PCs have always been garbage in the actual experience of using them. I’m hoping with the steamdeck and steamOS, it’ll really start pushing this form factor forward, but as it stands, it has nothing on the convenience, battery life, and general accessibility of the switch.
I had a really hard time configuring Dolphin Emulator for gamecube games. Everything looked very slow and choppy, and when I would get the gameplay smooth (enough) the audio was SO choppy and screwed up I just had to mute it.

I'm glad you mentioned Outerwolrds. That was a very regrettable purchase on the switch. I hate the resolution and drop of frame rates. When it comes to first person or 3rd person shooters, I can't get passed these issues with the Switch. I'll play games like Witcher, Doom and Outerworlds on other systems or PC.
To be fair though, Witcher 3 and DOOM are somewhat decent on the Switch, definitely not as good as PC but certainly passable if you want the flexibility to play portable.
I actually preferred my Witcher 3 on the Switch over my PC because I could play it anywhere, spent more time on my Switch save file than my PC in the end purely because of portability.
But I dunno what on earth happened with The Outer World's, that game actually looks like a PS2 game.
And actually I just went to try The Outer World's and there was a 1.5 patch that seems to fix a lot of the texture related issues.
Not sure if Wood actually updated his copy.
@@rezarfar i have not played it since the game came out for the Switch. It bothered me too much to play it again. A lot of textures and enemies would pop in and out. The resolution playing on the TV made everything worse as you noticed all the flaws with the port. I was very disappointed with my experience. But if you were able to get passed it or didn't mind it so much that is cool. It just took me out of the immersion to enjoy it.
I have Outer Worlds on PC and it’s AMAZING! I didn’t know it was on the Switch when I got it for PC, but in hindsight I’m SO glad I got it for the PC. I think I currently have 60+ hours in that game and rising fast.
@@jacksauce yeah, had I known it would run so poorly on the switch, I would have never bought the digital copy. Otherwise I would have returned the game. I'm trying to convince myself to buy the game again on PC.
One thing you need to remember : Console makers like Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft and now Valve don't make money out of hardware. As Gabe said : They "tried to loose as few money as possible". This is an investment. If players have their device, they will be more likely to buy games on it, giving them the 30% percent cut. These people don't sell games, so their device is obviously more expensive.

Just an FYI I got the raycon gaming for travel, low latency mode on the switch was spotty with constant cut outs then extreme dips in audio quality. On PC you cant use the mic unless you want your audio quality to dip to ham radio levels of quality. So for the price you are better off with anything else (that will definitely have the same PC mic limitations due to BT Bandwidth, which I learned).
I got Raycons based on switch channels recommendations. If they at least worked fine on the switch in low latency mode I would of been happy with the purchase.

@@deibiddochan the raycon gaming have some sort of low latency mode, doubt it's aptx but works good on phone. But for my phone I usually want to listen to music, so I use my iems, on my switch I wanted convenience and their low latency mode would cut out and randomly have output quality issues. Latency was good enough though.
@@GoTEnjoyerMatt KZs? I have a pair and can confirm they are great. They also have a detachable 2 pin cable, meaning you can make them wireless with a wireless adapter.

The thing is: for mobile gaming if have my switch, else for 1.4K I can buy a great pc and have fun with that thing. I don’t see a good point of it, especially since pc games look on pc better anyway.
I mean 90% of the Switch’s library is on Steam already, so “pc games” can be great portably too. But yeah, the price is nuts. Glad the Steam Deck is only $399.

Despite the price that is above what most general people would want to throw in. That's half a month's salary for some people. BUT it does set a standard for Nintendo and Steam for making portable consoles that are not only affordable but good. Portable will always seem to be inferior to a full PC and consoles but with the technology we have, you can have pretty good PC quality in a portable form but the price so companies need to balance the price and quality.

an issue to solve the minimizing thing would be a button that specifically ctrl enters and/or f11 and make it configurable between the two because that would make it windowed or borderless windowed which would stop the minimizing

For anything above like $500 I would expect it to have a 1080P screen. My old S7 phone has a 5.1" 1440P OLED screen, and it was under $700 when I got it like 5 years ago. I'd be crazy to spend over a grand for a portable console that's still just 800P. Looks cool, but just no.

Keep in mind: Driving that amount of pixels at settings/frame rates that are acceptable would require additional horsepower that a 5800u just can’t deliver. Though I agree that the pricing is pretty egregious.

With gaming you won't notice that. On switch 720 looks beautiful. It's only a thing text amd maybe video. Don't forget Switch still has an high dpi compared to most laptops.

This seems far too complicated to me, it would be frustrating. I like you plug in a game cartridge in my Switch and go. So I better wait on the next Nintendo console.
Here's the thing. This thing is too expensive for its purpose. However, as a PC this thing is cheaper than mine. And mine is like the lowest out there. If they manage to sneak this thing into Mexico as a gaming pc without the expensive taxes. I think it could be a great alternative for many players. Keep in mind that Steam literally kept us out from their circle and is not selling their Steam Deck here. So yeah...

Yes other than also this looks ugly, has tech issues you would never get on consoles, fan is insanely loud and has a quite small screen if you're used to OLED. Oh and costs more than double.
Also the issues with this kind of thing it will become a useless brick in a few years unlike consoles that are always useable if you take care of them.

Nintendo isn't going to make something that powerful anytime soon unless they can somehow make it 300 dollars
I don't know, company's like these have to have a bigger profit margin to make up for less sales, most consoles are sold at a loss unlike the switch
They've only just released the OLED model, so their next console is quite probably still 2 years out. (Plus they're selling consoles and games like hotcakes...)

@@CaptainEffort Times change, and technology do too. If Nintendo releases a handheld console as their next gen console, I don't think that anyone should be expecting some 4K 120 FPS handheld. On the other hand, a non handhled console could totally make sense. But Nintendo isn't known for powerful hardware but rather for their conveniant and creative consoles with great exclusives, so yeah probably not a really powerful console for Nintendo in the years to come

My theory as to why some games are not recognizing your external controller is because it's seeing it as a controller for player 2. The controller that's built-in is being recognized as the first player controller. Don't have the Neo Next so can't say for sure, but seems like a plausible theory. See if you can disable the internal controller and then test if external controllers will start working.
