Masterclass with Professor Alexander Satz in which they work on Mozart's 9 Variations on a Minuet by J. P. Duport K 573, focusing on the thema and first variation. This masterclass took place at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, Madrid 2005.

Abstract:
In general, Professor Satz recommends the student to create more fantasy in the variations, to have more contrast inside each one. They talk about the beats in a bar of a Minuet: they are not equal, so the difference of intention is advisable and this way they will be connected to the phrasing. The character of the first variation should be naive and open, with melodical direction and avoiding metrical flow. Satz also analyses the shape of the ornaments and asks the student to create more colour inside.

Please, post more masterclasses with professor Alexander Satz. I remember one with Brahms’s 1st sonata that he gave there to Davi Kadouch for example. Is there a way to purchase these videos?
