i think giulia's dad assumed luca and alberto were either runaways or orphans, and that's why he never asked about their parents. to him all that mattered was that someone was looking out for them, so he took on that role. honestly best kind of parent.
I thought it was that his was a time where parents were not worried about their kids and just let them do whatever like the 70s. They were not always worried about them being kidnapped or whatever. It was lenient.
Alberto has a little scar on his left arm and when someone asked the director on Twitter about it he said the harpoon grazed him and I swear I never cried faster for a fictional character's injury.
This actually makes me like Alberto even more. He got hurt by a weapon that could kill him, but it didn't stop him from loving and exploring the human world 🥺
I was watching Luca and thinking, “Pixar usually rips my heart out and stomps on it; Luca hasn’t done that yet, it’s just a fun movie.” Then the train scene at the end came and I was like, “oh! Ok! There it is. I’m gonna go cry my eyes out now.”
Personally, when Alberto came in running with the umbrella so Luca didn't have to expose himself but did it anyway for Alberto was where I was in absolute shambles 😭😭😭
Billy, I just noticed you color coordinate really well with the movies you watch. I wondered have you ever studied the color palette, cause your hue game is on point. Peace.
When luca was dizzy, and fish were swimming around his head, it was a play on a cartoon seeing stars. You get it? Because Luca still thinks the stars are fish!
Luca and Giulia are about 13 and Alberto is 14. This movie brings me a crazy amount of happiness. It's so fucking cute and the end destroys me but I love it so much.
Hey Billy! Idk if you watched through the credits, but if you did, it's a really nice continuation of their lives if you look at the drawings. It shows you more about Luca's time with Julia and her mom, him at school, and how life's been for Alberto and the dad. I really enjoyed watching the credits because these characters are just so precious.
If you loved the credits you should see Ciao Alberto. It’s an 8 min short movie, that shows how Alberto and Julia’s dad are working and living together. It’s so precious and managed to get a little extra tear out of me.
Billy saying the cat was named after Tupac 🤣🤣. Close Billy, but he's actually probably named after Machiavelli which brought about Machiavellianism. BTW the editing for this one is on point, Sir!
@@HyperfixationStation The album released after Tupac's death credited him Makaveli the Don. The album was The Don Kulluminati: the Seven Day Theory which was obviously doing a play on Machiavelli and the Illuminati.
This whole movie was also just a huge queer metaphor. The people are dangerous, finding people who love you as you are, alberto being so jealous of guilia, alberto being shunned after "coming out" as a seamonster, the found family trope, everything. It's just so beautiful.
100%, there's a great video essay on how Luca hits every step of the q ueer storyline and the allegory, intended or not, is undeniable. The getting beat up in the alley "get out of my town," the "you got me off the island" being about helping someone be open with who they are, the "some people will never accept him, but some will," the two worlds being two lives, the family wanting to send him away to straighten him out, etc etc etc. It's all there and it hits so close to home
Agreed, but it's disappointing to see disney use our stories without giving us credit for them. Also, the train scene is the gayest scene ever (and they are 13 and 14, old enough to be considered a cute couple if they were a boy and a girl)
And the way they made Luca and Alberto from outfits to aesthetic realy similar to call me by your name, even the train scene have been always a romantic goodbye in every movie ever. xd
Someone figured out that Gulias school is only about an hours train ride away. So if you're sad about the ending, you now have proof that they'll visit every chance they get. Naysayers, shut up. Let us have this.

19:33 Whew, Billy spitting facts here! that fear + jealousy never lead to anything good. I also want to add, I think jealousy often has its roots in fear; be it fear of losing the person you care about when they make a new friend/relationship, or fear of losing likeability and your credibility when someone is naturally more talented at something than you, even if you have areas of skill that they don't. If you have trauma or triggers linked to these fears, they automatically feel MUCH, much worse. Whatever fear it is, it doesn't get addressed and just molders, then it grows into anger and manifests as jealous behaviors and lashing out at the people you care about. Communicating how you feel and what you want from the other person often resolves insecurities they become jealousy, which takes a lot longer to recover from.
11:43 Erocle said Luca smells like the space behind the pesceria, which is the fish shop. Usually, in the back of fishmongers' shops, is where they clean, gut, debone, and/or section fish fillets for sale, and gather bad fish that aren't good to eat for throwing away. It REEKS back there!
That pasta is pretty awesome. Pixar has the recipe. Its noodles, potatos and green beans in a pesto sauce. My son and I did movie night where we watched this movie and made the pasta. Yum
The Italian phrase Alberto kept saying ("Piaccere, Girolamo Trombetta!") means "Nice to meet you, my name is Twisty Trombone!" And as you say it, there's hand motions that go with it: shaking the person's hand, then twisting it like you're assembling the parts of a trombone, and lastly pumping it back and forth like you're playing the trombone. One of the guys behind the movie grew up in a small Italian town and used to do this as a joke with the neighborhood kids.
10:44 Low-Key just did that and I told myself to only think about the video. Then my mind played the meme when multiple voices are taking at once but their all in-sync when saying 'It's entirely possible'
Luca is SO good. I feel like it got a little flack because of the CalArts-influenced art style. But I also feel like people sometimes expect these enormous, philosophical stories from Pixar but Luca was refreshingly simple. I loved it. Also the score is great.
I am so happy you watched this! I'm American but i've been living in Genoa for 7 years. It's my home now (I'm raising my children here) so I feel so attached. I felt so proud that there is a major Disney movie that features my (new) home!
Billy, I wanna say, I recently found your channel some days ago and already I love it. So thank you so so much for the content you put out! 💕
7:50 Pixar animated "Luca" with Studio Ghibli as partial inspiration! Which is why Alberto does this very anime-looking run down the hill, in 2-D-like profile, before reaching Luca and the ramp. You can also see partial frame animation they used to show motion blur, in Alberto's feet and legs. In each frame, you can see his actual leg and then the "illusion" legs and parts of feet when he windmills his legs, sort of creating a Sonic the Hedgehog running effect. The Ghibli influence is also in the name of the town, Portorosso. It's a fictional place and it means "Red (sea)Port", and it's inspired by the Ghibli movie "Porco Rosso," which is about a WWII pilot who was cursed to look like a pig, and he flies a red plane; so they nicknamed him the "Red Pig," aka "el Porco Rosso."
Since you were curious, in the movie Luca and Giulia are 14 years old, while Alberto is 16 💕 (and sad fact, someone took the time to count the marks on the wall and found out that Alberto had been alone for a year and a couple months before he stopped counting 😭)
I am so happy you picked up on what was happening with Alberto! There were quite a few red flags throughout the movie and I think you got all of them (even the less obvious ones).
You should watch Ciao Alberto, its on disney+ . It shows off luca and alberto's communication after luca gets to the school with Giulia. It also shows what Alberto is doing with Massimo, giulia's dad.
I love that Queer people can really feel the metaphors of the movie and relate to some if not the whole movie (Yes it entirely a Queer metaphor, beautifully done) Wish we could just make a Queer Pixar movie without having make it a metaphor but the future is ours🌈💫🤗❤️
I love this movie sm. I love how there can be so many great messages hidden in it, for example most people see this as a hidden lgbt story… and after watching it more times than I probably should I saw all the little scenes that can be compared with a person coming out. ( also the boys have the best chemistry and are just too cute together)
giulia and alberto being siblings at the end (technically) makes me so happy. also the way they winked at each other when they’re were saying goodbye😭🫶🏻
This movie is so sweet ❤️ I love how they show Albertos abandonment issue through jealousy And when Alberto tell Luca about his dad leaving him I was so sad for him, like somebody give that boy a hug and a home! 😭❤️
The gasp I let out when Luca turned on Alberto- This was my first time seeing anything of Luca past the trailer, I'm glad I chose to watch it with your commentary, but geez Louiseeee
I just noticed but each of the three have different reactions when the Dad is about to say who they are. It makes me cry though that Alberto is looking so small, sad and just "Please...please..." And uh...yeah that's when I started to ball🥲✋

And as you say it, there's hand motions that go with it: shaking the person's hand, then twisting it like you're assembling the parts of a trombone, and lastly pumping it back and forth like you're playing the trombone.
One of the guys behind the movie grew up in a small Italian town and used to do this as a joke with the neighborhood kids.
This was a great primer billy love your laughter and smile, miracles and blessings to you and yours.

Low-Key just did that and I told myself to only think about the video.
"DISNEY STOP PLAYING WITH MY HEART,MY HAAAAAAAAAAA-"
Just got back home from doing a Chemistry exam today at college. Then I see this. Looks like I know what I'm watching while eating dinner. 😆
Awwww, that soft post-Luca voice Billy got was from pure, overwhelming emotion!
#bingers Curella, Hamilton, Jumanji:WelcomeToThe Jungle, and Pirates of the Caribbean series
You have a Bruno in your head.
Bruno, from Encanto: how...relatable.
Amazing review as always. I would love to see you do the Maze Runner Trilogy would be the best movie review.
I am so happy you watched this! I'm American but i've been living in Genoa for 7 years. It's my home now (I'm raising my children here) so I feel so attached. I felt so proud that there is a major Disney movie that features my (new) home!
He was right the word silence serculated in my head
10:57 lol us ADHD folks got 3 voices asking what our next thought will be 24/7 LOL
Billy you have to watch Ratatouille🥰it's one of Pixar's best movies #bingers
Billy, I wanna say, I recently found your channel some days ago and already I love it. I have been struggling with depression, and it's been getting a bit tough due to season changes and exam season, and your videos have had me laughing and smiling and even dancing right along with you! So thank you so so much for the content you put out! 💕
If only Ariel could have been able to shapeshift, her life would have been a lot easier lol
You def need to watch "Ratatouille", also "Onward" is verrry good, "The Good Dinosaur", "Brave". Pixar is just amazing.
And "Soul"!!! If you havent seen Soul you haaaaaave to!!!
Billy, the blue shirt looks good on you. That color is definitely your color!
Niccolo Machiavelli was the man who wrote the book “The Prince”. Tupac read it while it jail and named his album him basically.
It’s like the Little Mermaid came out of the sea to immediately visit Rapunzel’s tower
I am so happy you picked up on what was happening with Alberto! There were quite a few red flags throughout the movie and I think you got all of them (even the less obvious ones).
Hope you make 100k tonight you deserve it 💕 Never seen Luca before so thanks 😊
You should watch Ciao Alberto, its on disney+ . It shows off luca and alberto's communication after luca gets to the school with Giulia. It also shows what Alberto is doing with Massimo, giulia's dad.
I love the lgbtq undertones for this movie as well. This movie makes me so happy, It’s amazing.
Same!!!
Luca's parents are voiced by Maya Rudolph and Jim Gaffigan
it's almost like he lives in rupunzels old castle and hordes items like ariel lol
that "disney stop playing with my heart" is becoming my favorite thing hahaha its stuck in my head
Heyyy we’re early
This movie is so amazing and I can’t wait to see ur reaction!!
Waiting for Hamilton… #bingers
10:50 then you realise that your next thought is going to be thinking about what you just told yourself
Great reaction, Billy! I hadn’t seen this movie before but it was really good with a wonderful message. 👏👏👏👏👏
I love that Queer people can really feel the metaphors of the movie and relate to some if not the whole movie
(Yes it entirely a Queer metaphor, beautifully done)
Wish we could just make a Queer Pixar movie without having make it a metaphor but the future is ours🌈💫🤗❤️
I love this movie sm. I love how there can be so many great messages hidden in it, for example most people see this as a hidden lgbt story… and after watching it more times than I probably should I saw all the little scenes that can be compared with a person coming out. ( also the boys have the best chemistry and are just too cute together)
giulia and alberto being siblings at the end (technically) makes me so happy. also the way they winked at each other when they’re were saying goodbye😭🫶🏻
shout out to the vacuum marks in the carpet. they're the most consistent thing in my life.
This movie is so sweet ❤️ I love how they show Albertos abandonment issue through jealousy
And when Alberto tell Luca about his dad leaving him I was so sad for him, like somebody give that boy a hug and a home! 😭❤️
Billy you did not 😂 just call her baby Wendy’s
The gasp I let out when Luca turned on Alberto- This was my first time seeing anything of Luca past the trailer, I'm glad I chose to watch it with your commentary, but geez Louiseeee
You make me laugh so much!!! You NEED to watch Harry Potter and ratatouille like they are so good and the soundtracks …. UNREALLLLL❤️
I just noticed but each of the three have different reactions when the Dad is about to say who they are. It makes me cry though that Alberto is looking so small, sad and just "Please...please..." And uh...yeah that's when I started to ball🥲✋
Has anyone recommended the how to train your dragon trilogy to him yet? I think he’d really like it #bingers
YAY! i remember requesting this. I’m so glad you did it ☺️
Fun fact there is a theory Bruno is Alberto’s dad’s name #bingers
Oh this was so cute I love to see Pixar still putting all the feels into that movie. Billy the powder blue long sleeve is NICE I have to say it again idc if it's a sweater or not lol you look sharp!
I've never watched Luca so I guess I'm watching it to 😂😂 Billy love ur videos your so FUNNY and please do Disney zombies and Henry danger the series I'm begging lol hope u safe 💛🙏

#bingers A Little Princess. It’s an underrated classic. I loved it growing up but forgot all about it until I just saw another reaction channel react to it.
Billy: when I tell you I was crispity crackly I had so much are the road I'm telling you I was just like jsjsjsnzjakj jsjsjsmsmm I cried all the way home
The animation was so clean
20:49 At this point I started singing "Disney stop playing with my heart! With my heart! With my hee-aart, hee-aart. I say! He-a-a-a-aart" 😂
