This movie always brings me to tears... not only for the wonderful Christmas message, but also in sadness for what we've lost... the community, charity, and kindness, not to mention the universal Christmas spirit that overcame our differences and united us.
Everything about this movie makes me cry. I know it's fiction but to know that a community like that existed at one point and is just non existent now, is devastating
We'll take the cup of kindness yet... That line makes makes me weep every time. Life can be rough and the burdens we bear and the hardships we endure ... Only God knows.
This movie carries a message that good men will be rewarded by others, for being pure of heart. I found watching it very depressing during a period when I was alone and homeless, and nobody reached out to me. I think that this movie shows how the human mind has evolved to conceive of things that are not yet true in the world. Beauties that do not yet exist. Maybe if they can be conceived, in due time they will exist.
@@aemiliacarolphonetube9749 Perhaps his life wasn't wonderful in his own eyes at the time, just like George Bailey in the film couldn't see the wonders of his life. But you don't know how many lives were positively touched by this person's existence. The wonder of it all is, the life given to others. The hope, the kindness, the help, the sacrifices. It all builds up others and so the wonderful life comes into play.
Actually, this movie shows us, how we devolved, devaluated. For kindness and goodness and helping were much more the norm in decades long gone by. The world nowadays - and I write this 10 years after you - is in a deplorable mental and social state. I am sorry to hear, that you've gone through a period in your life, where no-one was willing to actually show kindness and goodness to you on a deeper level, than just a dollar or one meal. So sorry. Hope you're back on your feet and willing to help others.
The reason people cry is because this scene shows everyone in bedford falls coming together to help him and I think that this movie shows that you should be thankful for what you have and to not throw your life away! Remember, NO man is a failure who has friends! Thanks for the wings! Love Clarence! But if u don’t have friends, I’ll be yours! This movie teaches a better lesson than thanksgiving, that all that matters is that you should be thankful!
i just get a good feeling inside when i watch this movie. such a timeless classic... it's a shame that the quality of movies today don't remotely resemble this feel-good classic.

I just watched this film again. Jimmy Stewart was seen by some of my relatives that served in WWII(the boys on the donkey). I guess he served in the military and/or entertained the troops. They've all passed away so I can't ask them, but he was a nice, humble guy.
cyberspacecadette thats cool did your relative serve with him at all ? from what i know from looking him up he served in korea to i guess he left the military as a brigadier general in the air force one of the highest ranks in the military when other celebrities of the day were running messages for generals Jimmie Stewart was bombing germany he is a bad ass lol
+lacosanostra20 It was colored in 1988, which was considered a desecration of a black and white classic. Jimmy Stewart went to court against the disgraceful billionaire and liberal Ted Turner to try and stop it. To the others commenting in the thread, Jimmy Stewart was a decorated air-force pilot in World War Two, and it was in a commissioned capacity as an officer, not just as some war time gimmick or for propaganda purposes like many celebrities of the era. He was from a long standing military family who had fought in every american war including the revolution, 1812, and both of his grandfathers fought in the American civil war. His idol was his father who had fought in the Spanish-American war and World War One. Jimmy considered it his duty to fight in world war two and had been an accomplished pilot since accreditation in 1935. He was more than just an entertainer to the troops, he was one of them, and is still considered a war-time hero especially by the surviving military of the era. Jimmy was awarded numerous medals, many of which he held in higher regard than his Academy Award for Best Actor, and he remained with the air force until 1968 after flying in Vietnam when he retired honorably. His adopted son later died in Vietnam in 1969 as an officer of the marine corps, but Jimmy never accepted the notion that his son had died in vain, and he honored the troops of that war at a time where many Hollywood types abandoned the veterans.
The pinnacle of western culture. Rather crazy to believe this movie takes place in the same country we (most of the people reading this) live in today. Maybe, just maybe, we can go back. Someday.
America has kicked out God and with Him kindness, loyalty and goodness. America is stuck in Mr. Potter's version, for that's what the people chose, over and over again. It's terribly sad. Perhaps you can help someone, just someone, to have a better life and get out of trouble. Not some day, but today. Don't put it off. Make it your goal to use the last weeks of this year to impact someone in an amazing way. See how that will snowball for good over the years to come.
This movie should have had a spin off where old man potter has a Christmas carol arch. It would have been nice to see him go from a frustrated tired old man to a joyful, cheerful, and wondrous old man who wanted to spread cheer and joy instead of fear and misery.
@ChristForte If you buy the dvd there are 2 discs. Disc one has it in black and white along with some extras, like a making of presented by tom bosley and the 2nd disc is the colored version.
@QBisbest Most studios run their old movies through the computer now. The computer, from the different shades of black and white, can tell what the color is. They have used this type of technology on old Sephia photos to see what colors people were wearing at the time. Hope this helps.
you know it really is a wonderful life i think people get to caught up in the stupid stuff instead of realzing that all you really need to be happy is your family and freinds
@@WarpChaos it sure does, a colorized version of Miracle on 34th Street also exists, but Casablanca is one classic black and white movie they'll never colorize
I like the colorized version. I used to only like the black and white version but I realized that I notice so many more things when viewing it in color. Not sure why unless the black and white is more grainy.
Kindness and goodness are from God. You know, the real one. The one with the capital G. If you enjoy this, you might want to get to know Him. Listen to the Christmas song. It's word for word true. And heaven beats ecstasy by a million times. Over and over again. And paid in full for you already.
