You know blacqueman I always watch your videos because of your vibe and spirit ( I don't play bass ) and today is no different except today you imparted advice all musicians need to hear regardless of instrument or level of expertise. You are the man. Keep it coming...
Johnny asks,,nothing from us,,,not a dime,,,and always give's back,,I try and take on his positive outlook,,everyday,,Like,Johnny,,,,,I suggest this channel to my friends,,,I am a bass player,,,{9 out 10 ,,aren't,,bass players,},,,but they watch,,and say,,maybe it's a good thing to have a bass around,,the room,,,Brother your spreading the word!
Classics are classics for a reason. They have a groovy foundation that you can't get out of your head. A lot of the new stuff while intricate will fall away to the wayside outside of a niche. Meanwhile the classics keep grooving.
I've always played by ear, all the old country hymns. Real simple country tunes. I need to tap into the roots of gospel and find some funk. Amen love you brother.
Back then, you couldn't get a Gig if you couldn't play those songs, I remember the Old days here in Detroit playing the Jazz Workshop, Orthea Barn's Place, The Blue Note, Bakers Keyboard Lounge and Others, The "Good Ole Days".
Ive played drums for most of my life and just started playing bass. Love your quote. "You have to get out of yourself too enhance yourself ". Love your videos. Keep them coming. God bless you. 👐 SHAD A KAKA
yes Johnny I enjoy your bass talk and info , I would like to know if you have ever workon or played a SD Curlee bass , I had one back in 74-75 , these basses were neck thru the body smoe was maple , and walnut it had a look of a Ken Smith , and active electronics .if you could every find this bass I think you would be impressed with how fat and brite this bass was . Denmark
Anybody willing to suggest 10-20 songs to check? Those that would match the criteria from Johnny's video? I'm 39 based in Europe and I have to admit that I recognized just sad few of them. Would make a lot of sense if someone willing to help 🙏
Paul is not a bassplayer bassist,he is not flashy, don't thump & pluck, don't use a whole stage, don't do many bass interviews, don't do flash clothes,or use several different basses when u see him live or on video.....who is Paul, a musician, composer, icon, billionaire who uses all his musical options from the conforts of his home.....
8:41 I just had to jump in here :>) I got it in my mind to play ( Amazing Grace ) Never played it on any thing before.I a very short time,I mean minutes.I was playing it on a seven string fretless 1996 Conklin. And I learned a lot from it.Also on a sad note,,,,,,:>( I can't thump :>( Makes no sound,,,,,,,,,,,,,white guys can't thump ,,,,,,,,,yet :>)
That's one of the problems with bass--most songs are just not that attractive as just bass. Grab an acoustic guitar and suddenly everyone is singing with you while you play basic rhythm guitar. Don't get me wrong. I love playing bass. It's just never going to be a party/campfire instrument.
Those “original” Ken Smith basses. Wow! You
did a magnificent job on
that bass! She looks gorgeous!😳👍🏾

Barkays or just about anything funk,, then Gospel.

As an Aussie white guy, I don't recognise any of those songs, maybe one. Could you guys help introduce them to me?
That is gorgeous!
What were the songs you played? I'd like to look them up and learn.
Shining star(EWF), SLIDE (slave), Mr Magic( grover washington),boogie oogie(taste of honey)Poppa was a rolling stone (temptations)
Johnny would love to hear your opinion,,,on Paul Mccartney,,,,as a bass player?

Easily one the best players ever, who can translate it..and such a smooth, accurate playing skill..
I'd add Another One Bites The Dust to that list, instantly recognisable and fun to play around with and slap
SpongeBob was in there?😁😂😄I remember you taught Mr Magic not that long ago.
2 THUMBS UP!!

humblegeorge I don’t think they were as successful in the USA as in Europe. No offence taken by the way. 👍😀

I had the exact ken smith bass. Unfortunately, I sold it due to bills. Thanks Covid-19.
Wow! I know you were pissed! Had a yamaha
BB5000 and had to sell it
because of an emergency situation. Sick to my stomach was an understatement!🤨
